It was decent, but another company installed fiber in the area and Race kept increasing the price so I switched. I was supposed to get a cost free address sticker to return the equipment. It never came. They sent several bills by email after that, but never instructions for returning the hardware. Now they sent the bill to collections ($450) and I still have the hardware. read more

Inconsistent speed, and they will hide behind the expected, canned responses... "Are you using wi-fi vs hard wired connection?" WHO DOESN'T USE WI-FI?? "Are you moving your devices or are they stationary". My TV doesn't move....yet we get the dreaded circle of death "You have xx devices connected". No, I don't, many of them are not powered up therefore not connected, just registered. I wasted money on the 1G service and fiber optic? Nowhere near the consistency one expects, or should expect. I regret switching from Infinity, because I paid 50% less and service/consistency was better. It seems evident Race signed up too many customers to support via their servers, and speeds are wildly inconsistent. read more

Yea, it's faster, but you have to push a lot of buttons to move around. Reminds me of Windows 95. Also, an internet program will just be dropped and TV will switch to Dish Mode, and after 10 minutes of viewing anything, the tv screen will go black for 10-15 seconds. I applied for Internet online and I was never contacted after that. I called a week later to find out what the next steps were. I was told I had ordered a pre-sale and it was not quite ready yet. I went on an 11 day vacation where I didn't have cell reception. I was contacted through text (I had wifi, but was on airplane mode) on June 24 stating I had an appointment on June 25 (the day before) and to call if I was unable to make the appointment. Race sent construction people to my house, while I was gone, and they dug a trench in my neighbor's yard and attached a box, with five large screws and grommet holes, to my stucco, without ever telling me what they were going to do. I came home to that mess, gas line flags left in my neighbor's yard, and yellow spots all over my concrete. I was told, the night before, in an email, that they would be putting holes the next day, in my interior walls and running cables through my house, as they WILL NOT run them through the attic. I declined the appointment and asked them to remove their box and cables from my stucco. The representative told me they would not return to fix this. I said then I will cut the fiber cables and throw the whole thing away. He urged me not to, as he said being fiber ready would increase an appraisal if I decided to sell. He also said that I shouldn't take it off, as other people might want it. He said they did not want it back either. I am 62 and getting ready to do hip replacement surgery next week and spent part of today removing screws and grommets, out in the sweltering sun, and was still not able to completely saw through the fiber cable. Great internet but when you have to return your equipment they will charge you for damages even if you didn't damage it. I cleaned and boxed my equipment with the same material you find in Amazon shipments for cushion. I knew shipping the equipment was not ideal but when I called they refused to accept in-person returns. I was living in Tehachapi and had to ship to the Tehachapi center. They charged me a lot of money and when I asked for a picture of the packing they sent one with the equipment inside the box but didn't show the packing material. I can not put into words how impressively faster our new upload speeds are with Race. I was paying $119 with spectrum for a gig and the highest speeds i ever got on our upload was 24 mgps! I had been unable to send a ton of work files when i had Spectrum, (my laptop would time out after a few hours and some folders would give an estimate send time of 28 hours!). With Race I was able to send over 650 gigs of video files to our editor in less than 3 hours!!! Add no more buffering when watching my live soccer games to the list and... In my time with RACE, I have encountered a multitude of issues that have soured my overall experience. The first and most glaring problem is the inconsistent speed. When I initially signed up, I was assured that I would be receiving top-tier fiber optic speeds - zoom zoom. Instead, I have been subjected to constant fluctuations in my internet speed, latency, upload/download, leading to buffering during zoom calls, lag in online use, and a frustratingly slow tv streaming experience. Customer service is another area where RACE disappoints. When attempting to resolve issues or seek assistance, I have been met with long wait times, unhelpful support representatives, and a lack of accountability. It's disheartening to pay a company for service that claims to value its customers fall short in providing the support needed when problems arise. Furthermore, the pricing structure leaves much to be desired. Paying a premium for substandard service is unacceptable.. My next door neighbor contracted with Race Communications for internet. The company ask permission to run their cable through my yard with the promise to put back to the way it was. They broke sprinklers heads, buried others and killed part of my lawn. I contacted them, got a work order number/ticket number to get it fixed with a promise again that it would be fixed within a week. When it wasn't fixed I called back asking for a supervisor. Was told by customer service that they won't put me through and basically according to their legal department to sue them for the damages. THEY ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED. Hi Race, This is a hard conversation to have... breakups are never easy and it goes like this... It's not me, it's you!! We started mingling back in first week of Jan, 2017. I know this feels like yesterday because it was the week I moved into my new home. How exciting to be getting fiber optic speed in a new building and community! Your support was kind and easy to chat with on the phone. AND my account number has 3 #8's, for an Asian this is just icing on the cake. Our early courtship was rocky for the first year. Intermittent connections and speed test via Oola was between 60-120 MBPS. After a few tech support calls, a house visit, and tweaks on the backend, we realized that your fiber optic cable must connect the house modem & wifi two-in-one in a metal box in my bedroom closet. How unfortunate! I feel your pain & decided that commitment is worthy given you were the only option with speed of 300+MBPS (I can work with that). Even with the $10 optional equipment monthly rental, it was worth the courtship to give in (albeit I have always used my own wifi router in the past). Things were smooth since for about two years until COVID pandemic hits San Francisco which started shelter-in-place on 3/17. You disappeared on me on 3/24 (on a Monday) for nearly 24 hours. No apologies, no texts updates to everyone affected in the community, or partial reimbursements given that internet is a critical/essential need named by the Governor (and on your website). What happened to us? Email notification in a new community that has poor cell signal is poor etiquette, albeit it may seemed like the best form. Even PG&E sends text messages on outage updates. C'mon, you are better than that. No follow up emails, letters, or even an apology... Your modem and wifi two-in-one in a thick metal box in the bedroom closet is doomed to failed and we were never back on the same footing since the outage. Endless tech support calls, replacement of device, speed test on your tech's devices vs. mine just no longer make sense. Furthermore, you changed your optional device rental to mandatory (regardless of usage) is poor principle especially when your Billing refused to understand the wasted time, frustration and heartache that customers had to go through during 3+ months of shelter in place. Wifi speed at 50mbps 8 ft away from the 5ghtz router is just unacceptable. Selling me an extender to fix your issue isn't a real solution (which I'd have to pay for). How could you blame my iPhone, Mac, Alexa and printer connections so you can run proper speed test? Mind you most of your other paying friends in the neighbor no longer has patience to deal with your none sense during SIP order, poor attitude of pointing finger elsewhere and decided to befriend elsewhere. Furthermore, you spam me when there's $3 difference on new charges 4x in two weeks and refused to refund me when my bank rolls payment automatically after the closure date. Classic act!! Being self proclaimed above average in tech knowledge, wifi capability on a two-in-one device is a design flaw, not ONT issue or firmware issues, yet you refuse to admit to poor stability of performance and remain stubborn on using the device. You won't give me a separate device. You won't face the truth that a second device connecting to alternative e-plug is a better solution. You refused to accept speed test on your device will always be better than mine. You are losing paying friends and those in the neighborhood that are willing to give you honest feedback and has been part of your journey in the past 3.5 years. As soon as I went trial with ATT and a speed date with Eero, my steady 500+ mbps across all devices in a 600sqft. apt seals the deal. We had Race internet for over 5 years. The service would slow down or go completely out quite often. In April 2022 we sold our home, paid our bill off and canceled our service. I had packed the modem in a box when I moved and couldn't find it until recently, so once I had my hands on it I called race and asked for a return label in which they sent. While on the phone with Jessica ( the rep) she told me to make sure the modem didn't have any animal feces of any kind. I thought that was a very odd thing to say but I just said okay. As I was heading out the door to the USPS store to return their modem, Jessica called me back and informed me that I can return the modem but... they're still going to charge me the $457 for not returning their modem in their time frame. She also told me it was stated in the contract that I signed 5 years ago and refused to send me a copy. This company is a joke! I'll be contacting my attorney if they refuse to remove this charge. read more

This company I thought was decent until I tried to cancel my service. I sent back equipment that was too dirty to use again. Ok, I understand that. Then they said they were going to charge me a "damaged equipment fee", their words not mine. Again, I'm ok with that. But the amount that was charged was the same if I hadn't returned the equipment at all. After contacting them to ask why the damaged equipment fee is the same as if I hadn't returned it at all and explained that I'm ok with that as long as they send me the equipment back. Since the equipment works fine there's absolutely nothing wrong with it besides it was dirty, as I was told by the customer service representative, then there's no reason why I can't have it back if I'm going to pay full price for it. I was told I can't send it back because it's already been disposed of. But yet they still want the $376. Hey race go fu$k yourself. I'm not paying u guys sh#t. By the way...the cheap ass equipment they provide doesn't come close to the cost of $376. It's $165. I priced it out. That's retail price not what they pay since they buy cheap ass equipment in bulk. Race has really bad customer service - long wait times, then once you get to them they do nothing. My service has been out for 3 weeks...and they quoted another 3 weeks to get restored. Hard to handle when you work from home and rely on internet. Asked for the phone number and email of CEO - lol.. They are insulting that group - probably because of way too many complaints from customers. They are trying to expand into Grass Valley and Nevada City and numerous other rural areas. Why expand when you can't handle what you currently have? I don't believe they even have a local office up here - I think they have to shuttle all their techs in to service. Their 1000 down and upload speeds are a joke. We have had no where near them. My son set the service up in his name as he is a pro gamer - then I tried to get it transferred to my name- not an easy task, as it has to be cancelled all equipment sent back...and then new service start. - what a hassle. However, we still considered until we saw what we believed were employees by friends' places as well as elsewhere. They shared their concerns. Therefore, we contacted the company to ascertain their behavior and drug policy. Approximately 3 months later and a share, we were emailed, but yet to get a copy of their behavior and drug policy (PDF would do.). **As such, until we see an official transcript, along with what we deem customer thoughtful behaviors, and reviews to support, we'll remain with our current company. **I would suggest consumers do their homework. Talk to others who've been with the company, read reviews, perhaps the bbb and google maps, and share any concerns. Companies respond best to consumer concerns and decisions. read more

Race communications sent all neighbors yesterday a text stating they are working on the lines. I never received a text, Yesterday TV service went crazy changing the channels and recording different TV programs. Call in last night and they fix which was awesome! This morning get up to watch the news and the TV is no longer in service. call again at 8 AM the tech could not fix the problem so they transferred to level 2 tech was told I was the next caller, then a recording came back on and said they would call me back, 2 o'clock called back again left a message, 3 o'clock called back wanted to speak to a manager the manager would not come on to the phone, again transferred to level 2 tech again left a message. Race has the worst customer service, it would be nice if our town had Spectrum as they have awesome customer service and take care of their clients. read more

The actual service is great and the price is good. My main complaint is the impossible task to communicate with them! There is no way to send an email and receive a timely response. To call on the phone will put you on hold that will take as long as Mt. Everest to melt and the waiting time for service to come out to your home will stretch into months. This seems to be a trend with all online services these days, or anything tech related including phone service. I feel like customer support has gone out the window with all corporations. Just an update to my last scathing review for this company- service has been restored for a few days now and to be fair, it is superior to every other service in the area when it is working.
