What we ordered doesn't require a second try. We ordered the curry puff appetizer that lacked any curry flavor and it was more like mashed potatoes, we also got the veggie dumplings (strange) but OK. Now I had the Raan house special with flat noodles & duck in a brown sauce, well the duck was old and gray and lacked any flavor and there was no brown sauce at all nothing! Rice noodles and old duck and bean sprouts . The wifey ordered shrimp in ginger sauce and the shrimp were store brought frozen shrimp that had zero shrimp flavor and we're mealy and forget the ginger sauce! No pop no flavor one bite and she was done. Needless to say we won't be back! Don't let my review stop you from trying it maybe we ordered the wrong stuff? This has to be the BEST Thai food on Long Island. We often visit kitchen 79 in the city which has a Michelin star and this I have to say is better. Try the curry puffs, yellow curry and drunken noodles, you will not be disappointed! Worth every penny! read more

My favorite Thai place on the island. I've literally never had a bad thing on this menu and I refuse to believe that there ever will be. The pad thai is hot, delicious, a little tangy, but certifiably fresh! The thai iced tea packs a flavor punch and the black sticky rice with custard is phenomenal. Not bad, not great. Well, actually- salty. The menu is huge. Like, both Thai and Chinese stuff are listed there. Vegetarian pad see ew: either tofu or veggies. The noodles had a pretty good texture, and the sauce flavor was not bad, but it was quite salty. Fried tofu- standard. Not crispy on the outside, though. Kind of soft in texture. Service was good. Nice lady. The music was kind of loud for the place, and it was, um, ethnic. Nothing against it, but it was kind of loud to speak over. There's a glare that comes from the setting sun, so be sure to ask them to lower the shades, but as the sun goes down, the shades may or may not go that far. read more

This was my first visit to Raan Thai, and from the moment I stepped inside, it was a great experience. The host welcomed us, seated us immediately, and someone quickly followed up with ice water to quench our thirst. Our chicken curry puff appetizer was delicious. Flaky pastry exterior with tender chicken, potato and curry sauce within. Highly recommend as a sample for how the rest of the meal will unfold. The Thai tea was delectable and refreshing; I even got one to go! The Raan Thai Noodle special was incredible. The duck was succulent, and a perfect complement for the noodles. For my first impression of Raan Thai, this was the benchmark and they surpassed it! Everything about Raan Thai was a great experience. This place is a hidden gem in the Smithtown area. The curry puffs are amazing. Their Duck pad Thai is to die for. Ordering from Raan Thai whether online or in person, is always fast. I reccommend this place over the other local spots because they give you big portions. If you are able to enjoy the lunch special, be sure to check that out. In addition to being gluten free i have allergies or sensitivity to dairy, shell-fish, MSG & Sulfites so needless to say eating out is a bit of a challenge, especially Thai food. But twice I have ordered from this restaurant and twice I have not been disappointed! I called my order in, explained all my food restrictions and was happily met with 'we should be able to work with all of those, what would you like to order'. The gentleman on the phone, Joshua, was extremely knowledgeable of all the menu items, which were safe, which could be made safe,which could be done but he would not recommend because it would not maintain the quality and integrity of the dish. He was very patient and understanding and both times I was able to get just what I wanted, and the food was DELICIOUS! Due to COVID, I have only ordered food for take-out. Once, delivery the second time for pick up. When picking up the order, the establishment was clean and everyone was following covid safety precautions. So far, i have tried the drunken noodles (ordered with pad thai noodles to make GF), green curry, pineapple fried rice, and mango sticky rice. All amazing quality, great portion sizes (except for on the mango sticky rice to be honest, i thought it was a small portion for the price, but tasted Great). Drunken noodles with chicken was really good, can never go wrong with Thai noodles with chicken and egg. Would highly suggest any of the flat noodles. Noodles here come in 4 level of spiciness. Didn't get decent service and some of the food was below average. I spend a month or two in Thailand annually and found the Chicken Satay below average - The Peanut Sauce was very thin and runny less the peanut bits. The Mango and Sticky Rice was also below average, I only got barely half a Mango. The sweet sausage in the fried rice I ordered was authentic, but it was plainly evident the diners in the restaurant were ancillary to the take out volume. I won't be going back. read more

Seems like a cute and quiet place to come and eat dinner. I ordered take out, picked up my food and had instant regret not sitting at the restaurant. From reading reviews on yelp, I read it was BYOB so I will have to grab some friends, a bottle of wine, and check it out. The menu had a large variety of items compared to some of the other Thai restaurants I've tried. I ordered the Medium heat Drunken Noodles with chicken and my husband ordered the Hot Spicy Fried Rice with shrimp as well as an order of spring rolls. Everything was great. I may go a little hotter on the Drunken Noodles next time. They are currently offering a promotion if you order your food online for the first time its 15% off the entire order. Ordered from Raan last week and had it delivered via GrubHub. The food came hot & fresh, which is why I always love Thai food. On this particular occasion, I ordered the lettuce wraps with chicken and some beef & shrimp fried rice. I asked for them to both be medium spicy. The lettuce leaves that came with the meal were super crispy and fresh. The chicken filling was cut up pieces of chicken (could have used a little more chicken), with other veggies and jalapenos. It had some kick to it, but it tasted delicious and like I said, you got a nice crisp crunch from the lettuce leaves. The beef & shrimp fried rice was also very good. I don't normally order this from a Thai restaurant, because to me it's more of a Chinese dish, but the Thai spin on it was very good. It had tomatoes in it, along with everything else you expect and it was delicious. If I was going to complain about anything, is that perhaps it was a bit light with the beef & shrimp, but I'm just being a nitpick! I would definitely order from them again and try some other things off their extensive menu. I recommend this place!! read more

Came back to this spot this weekend. First time eating at a restaurant since the pause. Happy to see they are doing well! Food was great as usual and I was thrilled to see their kitchen busting out tons of orders for takeout/pick up. An update since my last visit, the menu has somewhat stayed the same with some new items, which to me is a good thing because they have all the Thai favorites. I asked the owner if I could have the grilled sliced pork on noodles instead of rice and sure enough they were happy to do a riff on their menu item(picture below). We ordered the appetizer special which is a choice of any 3 apps. We had the crispy rice balls, Thai spring rolls, and curry puffs. All the items are house made which you can really tell, none of that frozen stuff. They also had a larger beer/wine selection than when I was there last. Can't wait to eat here again! read more

Raan Thai is a great local thai spot with a good lunch deal on weekdays! The pad kee mao is flavorful and packed with noodles, meat, onions, peppers, and egg. I recommend level 3 on the spice. The pad thai is pretty good, but nothing out of the ordinary--a little sweet with the sour tamarind notes. Their penang curry comes in a quart container for takeout--enough for at least two meals! They're a little pricier than some of the other thai spots in this area of Long Island but the food was prepared quickly and service was friendly. read more

We were excited to try this and it was delicious! My favorites were the beef Pad Thai (spicy) and the basil fried rice. The rice ball appetizer was also delicious. We were also so happy to see you could order and pay online to avoid paying in store during the health crisis. Always a great time at Raan Thai. They now have outdoor seating with adequate distance. I love the appetizers - crunchy rice balls, spring rolls, and the curry puffs. I did not get a picture of the fried banana dessert, but recommend that to end your meal. It's fried banana spring rolls with vanilla ice cream and you choice of sauce - perfect for summer. It could be just me I don't know but the reviews were so positive but I just did not like this place. Service was great our waitress was amazing handling tables, attending to customers picking up orders and answering calls. The prices are reasonable and if you pay in cash you get 10% off your check. I'm surprised they just don't make it a cash only establishment. We ordered their spring rolls, beef satay and dumplings. I did not like any of the dishes.
