i wanted to do an updated review to say this place seems like it's gotten even better since the last time i was here, but I gave five stars last time i reviewed too. they've expanded the menu and added some new soups/stews and appetizers alongside the long standing menu. The food is still excellent, and with the addition of the new menu items i wish i could give 6 stars. the tomato fish soup was very good, and I was happy with the order or shumai i got, this place gives 7 per order. The inside of the restaurant is still very pretty, and the staff is attentive. They also have a new loyalty program that rewards regulars, so if you're coming here often it'll be worth enrolling. read more

It has been quite a while since we were last here and it may be under new ownership based on the menu selections. All of us ordered different dishes this time. The scallion pancakes were nice and crispy. The banh mi sandwich was very good. Two in our party order rice vermicelli and one ordered the new sauerkraut fish. It was all delicious. I came to Pho Fans on my lunch break and honestly, I was impressed! The restaurant is very clean and the staff is very nice. It's a quiet restaurant (but I was there right after they opened) and I appreciated that. The restroom is quiet and there's a shared parking lot in the front with other establishments. So I ordered the shrimp summer roll and a D1 combo (pho with beef combination) and I was surprised by the portion size of the pho. I didn't expect it to be served in such a large bowl and I went back to my shift feeling stuffed! The broth was so flavorful that I didn't need to add any hoisin or sriracha (which is a first for me!). The spring rolls were fresh and quite refreshing. To be honest with you, I could see the kitchen staff preparing my meal from where I was sitting and I was satisfied with how they prepared my meal! I have a few more weeks left in Smithtown rotation so I will definitely be coming back on my lunch break. However, if you're going in when they open for business, be prepared to wait a bit for your meal. I waited about 20 minutes and honestly, I didn't mind at all. Cute cozy spot on Main Street. Since this is in the shopping center, there's plenty of parking. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was just what I needed. We were escorted to our table quickly. We stopped by Pho Fans while we were awaiting maintenance on a printer across the street. It was such a great experience! I ordered the bún thịt bò nướng, and normally, this dish comes with a pork spring roll. Unfortunately, I can't eat pork so I usually request to not have it included. But the kind waitress at Pho Fans said that they would be willing to change it to a vegetable spring roll, and I was able to enjoy the dish! The restaurant is refreshing and the bathrooms are seriously the cleanest I've ever been to HAHA. Definitely recommend dropping by if you're in the area! read more

Summer rolls were good, but the peanut sauce it came with was fantastic. I could've drank it......damn it was scrumptious. Pork banh mi sandwich was also standout for me. Savory and delicious. We swung by here recently after going to the Smithtown Easter Event. The ambiance is a cozy, dim lit space with Asian inspired decor. It's absolutely clean and orderly which is something I like to see at a dining spot. Combination pho portion was hUge with ample vegetables, meats, tripe and beef balls almost 1.5x more than other restaurants. Grilled pork chop with rice was a smaller portion and sides were generous. Service was a bit slow but our server was attentive and quick. Crispy spring rolls were really a hit and also they have fried chicken wings (which wasn't on the menu). Was unaware authentic Vietnamese food was so close by. We will definitely visit again soon. read more

For the island, I suppose it's passable. Compared to the numerous other Viet restaurants I have experienced, this place is so far behind in authenticity and flavor profile. It is all wrong. The food is expensive and not authentic in flavor. The pho is bland, with scarce meats and herbs, the broth is clearly not a slow cooked beef bone broth, more like artificial flavoring additives. The papaya salads are ok but just doused in sugar to mask any fresh flavors and the pork chops are usually burnt to a crisp. The best attribute is the ambiance and decor. One of the best Pho spots I've tried! The broth is rich and flavorful -- you can tell it's been simmered for hours. The noodles are just the right texture, and the rare beef slices were super tender. The Sauerkraut Fish portion of the menu here is a work of art. Have you ever had a soup so good it fundamentally changed you as a person? You will. I haven't tried them all yet but I have a hard time imagining a better soup than the Golden Pickle Fish. It is the epitome of comfort food, and I am pretty sure it could cure any illness. It could probably raise the dead. The online menu says they have egg noodles in the soups but in person it says potatoes instead. I think the potatoes are perfect in there and will probably keep asking for them even if it changes back someday. Serving sizes are super generous -- a "small" soup usually constitutes 2 or 3 meals for me. I also find that they are not playing around when they say something it spicy. I would describe my spice tolerance as a White Person Medium and a soup here definitely clears out my sinuses. The fruit teas are a great option for curbing the heat, though, so don't let that scare you off. This soup is so good I would gladly just lick it off the floor, but as it happens they also have phenomenal service and a lovely atmosphere here, so I haven't tried that just yet. The menu is very clearly marked for allergens, and the waitstaff that I've talked to is always very knowledgeable about the menu, so this would probably still be a safe place to eat if you have some dietary restrictions. The outside is pretty unassuming so I expected the inside to be fairly small but it's spacious and really nice inside. If I had to come up with one complaint I'd say that the front door is weirdly hard to open, but that's.... not a real complaint. In conclusion: if Pho Fans has no fans, please assume that I am dead because I am ride or die for this place. read more

We were seated immediately and the food took about 15 mins to be served. The soup was good. I added hot sauce to give it a kick. The bowl serving is very large. If your hungry I wouldn't order that because you get 5 shrimp and a tiny bit of salad but if was perfect for the occasion. This is our first time trying the establishment and walking in, the place is very clean and the staffs are super friendly and attentive. I ordered the beef broth combination pho noodle for about $19 and the pho noodles only come in one size. Honestly, it's large enough for one person. The presentation of the dish over a raised wooden platform was a nice touch. It was good for pho noodle and my only tiny issue is the beef balls are cut too small and the beef slices are a tad overcooked. Very minor complaint really. My wife order the grilled pork chop with spring roll and crab patty over white rice. Again the presentation is very clean and had wished the pork chop was bigger portion wise. Nonetheless, both these dishes were tasty. We had the fried shrimp with crab meat spring rolls for appetizer. I believe that came in 5 pieces and the crunch was there for sure and it was a home run. We came here on a weekend night and was surprisingly not packed, considering the food is good and it's one of the few pho places on LI. We started with pork steamed dumplings. They were good and the sauce was very good. We got a pork banh mi to split which was also very good, I just wish the bread was toasted more like in a panini style for a better crunch and easier to bite. The bread was good but it's difficult to keep the veggies in the sandwich unless the bread is toasted. Every bite something falls out. I got the pho combo which is beef, brisket, tendon and meatballs. I really enjoyed it. There was great flavor, and it came with sauces and sides to mix in. It is a very generous portion as well. My friend got the pho with beef and she enjoyed it as well. They give hot red pepper sauce on the side which I added, but I also which I had jalapeños because I like the flavor they bring. I am surprised to find a very authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Smithtown! I used to come here frequently when I was craving pho. I usually order pho with all the different types of beef. They also have other good items on the menu such as spring rolls and rice vermicelli. They also have Vietnamese coffee. They serve it on this wooden tray and it looks fancy. It usually is not pretty busy. It is on the pricier side. But if you don't want to drive out to Queens or Flushing, this is the place to go!
