I live life with few regrets. However, today I am regretful that we visited 62 other restaurants in Baldwin County before we experienced R Bistro. We have discovered our home. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Entering the charming space reminded us of so many lovely bistros in France: the art, the furniture, the draperies.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server, Henry, was so informative of the day's specials, and accommodating to our special requests. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sipping our wine, we could actually hear one another along with the background music (great use of textiles!)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And then the food started arriving! First, the bread...a perfectly chewy French baguette with whipped butter. And then the pate. Heavens! And now I know they sell it to go! Is that carnal knowledge? So I am a gumbo snob. I make a gumbo yaya (caramel shade roux) that is amazing. My daddy, however, made a wild game gumbo with an almost black roux. R Bistro's duck and conecuh gumbo had me looking for shot in the bottom of the bowl. I literally cried because of how close it tasted to my dad's. The food was absolutely fantastic. We started with the mussels and my daughter and I made quick work of them since they were so tender and flavorful. I had the steak frites and it was done to perfection. Not sure what the seasoning was on the fries but it was excellent. I finished with the key lime tort and it was wonderful. The service was very attentive but unobtrusive. Dinner last night at R Bistro was wonderful. The drinks were well prepared and not skimpy. The service was perfect. We ordered the artichauts, which are delicious! And the Maison de Pate, which is known to be good. I am not a pate lover, but our party thought it was good. Two had the Beef tenderloin stroganoff. Both loved it! One had the shrimp and grits. Quality was good, but she is very picky and favors her usual flavors in the dish. To be fair shrimp and grits has so many variations in our area. Great quality for sure. My barbecued shrimp was wonderful quality. Different from the traditional New Orleans style barbeque shrimp, yet tasty and very good. All around a very good meal and experience. read more

We were very disappointed in the food. The shrimp and grits were drowning in a bath of salty, floury crawfish "gravy". The oysters and orzo would have been OK, but they drizzled the whole dish with the kind of sweet sauce you get on bang-bang shrimp in a Chinese restaurant. It didn't work at all: not fusion, but confusion. Sometimes less is more! The wine was good, and so was the service. read more

Service was alright, I had to go to the bar to order a couple more drinks. I ordered surf and turf which was a filet mignon, 2 scallops and two scallop shaped potatoes, all for $60. The steak was burnt, and the scallops were beyond their expiration. The potatoes were the star of the dish. Wife had the duck confit and the rice was dry and flavorless, although the duck good. What a fun New Year's Eve dinner at the Bistro! Tonight was an event dinner so it was a fixed menu with great offerings for salad, entree and dessert. We enjoyed music while we dined by the New Orleans Ramblers and featured singer, Emily Herring. The new location of the restaurant is beautifully decorated with a much larger venue than their downtown Fairhope location. Looking forward to our next dining experience here. read more

The food was good. My wife had the pate and oysters on orzo, I had gumbo and shrimp and grits. Downside is they charge for bread, and for ice in your cocktails. My wife ordered a vodka and grapefruit cocktail and was charged $2.25 for ice. This was not a special cube that you sometimes see in bourbon glasses, but the same ice we had in our water glasses. The steaks are so tender a butter knife is all that is needed. the pot pies are made with puff pastry on top and the bottom crust is orzo pasta so supreme. prices are reasonable and desserts are a big plus if you have room. read more

What a gem! Spinach salad, French Onion soup, and artichoke dip to start, all were excellent. You can tell it's all made with love and freshness! I had the Croque Monsieur which was better than expected. It was made between a puff pastry rather than standard bread sandwich, so good! My husband had the wild salmon and said it was very good. I helped him eat the tasty veggies that came with it. Sautéed spinach was made perfectly and the tomato glaze slaw was the best I've ever had. read more

The food was delectable. I had lunch about a month ago. The bacon and cheese quiche was perfect! The salad was fresh with homemade citrus vinaigrette dressing. We have been fans of R Bistro when they had their downtown location. The Scenic 98 location is even closer to us. The food quality and service are always consistent and pleasing. Entrees have a nice presentation. Fish dishes are properly prepared and delicious. We also recently tried their Happy Hour. Great appetizers at $6/each and wine and some mixed drinks also at $6. I joined a group of "Galentines" at R Bistro for lunch on Feb. 14. We were warmly welcomed and promptly seated. Our server was super friendly and efficient. Everyone enjoyed their meals. My crawfish gravy on a biscuit was to die for. Service was a little slow, particularly for our drink and dessert orders, but everything tasted so fine and the company was so good, we didn't mind. My bill was $60, including tip, for an entree, small salad, iced tea, dessert and coffee. read more

First off, the food and service is phenomenal. Greatly disappointed by the below average wine selections offered and well over priced. We hope the wine buyer or bar manager will make adjustments and bring that up to speed with the food. We had a wonderful date night at R Bistro! We couldn't decide what to get, so we had a little of everything! To start we had gumbo, which was solid, and our waiter AJ suggested the barbecue shrimp which was AMAZING!!! The shrimp was perfectly cooked and swimming in a creamy sauce with a great kick. Served with three pieces of thick, soft bread - I wanted to lick the bowl. Then I had the salmon and roasted vegetables. Perfectly cooked in a nice light sauce. Husband had the shrimp and grits (so good) and we shared the short rib. Everything was excellent, but most of all, our server AJ was top notch. Attentive, helpful and friendly, My husband and I both said on the way to the car that he really added to our experience. We will definitely be back to try the other half of the menu! read more

Found out this restaurant is owned and run by a high school classmate from Trussville Alabama so we stopped for lunch on the way back home from the beach. What a treat! All of the appetizers we tried were great but the baked oysters were amazing. My husband had the tenderloin sliders and I had the ham and cheese croissant covered with sauce. The food here is exceptional and the service excellent. I'm from New Orleans, so I have high expectations when I eat out and R Bistro hits all the marks!! The wine list is impressive and the craft cocktails unique and enticing. The food is a perfect blend of Southern and French cuisines, the flavors bold and explosive and portions very satisfying. We had the crawfish beignets, crawfish mac-n-cheese (decadent and satisfying as a meal itself), the salmon with vegetables, filet, and duck confit. The desserts are first-class and not to be missed. Went there for a quite relaxing night out and neither was what me and my wife received . The food was not up to par and taste old and like it was reheated up in a microwave. The gumbo seemed bland and was not seasoned well enough considering this place is post be known for its seasoning. I had ordered the shrimp and grits and the grits were clumpy and the seafood my had a unusual taste as if it was not fresh. Very loud atmosphere in the restaurant , so hearing each others conversations it seemed hard to do. read more

As if there aren't already enough reasons to be in the beautiful bay side city of Fairhope, I have found yet another one. I recently had the distinct pleasure of having lunch at R Bistro on the Scenic Highway. Right away my attention was captured by the lovely décor and charming ambience. I started with one a the best Bloody Mary's I've had in a long time and followed with some delicious appetizers including a unique take on escargot where oysters are used instead of snails. It was great. I ordered tenderloin sliders and they were simply amazing. I also sampled a beef Stroganoff dish and it was the same, amazing. The beef was incredibly tender and everything was very fresh and tasty. To top it off, the service was impeccable. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. It was one of those memorable meals everyone hopes to have. I love this place and will go back anytime I'm anywhere near Fairhope. I'll also let my friends and family know they should do the same. read more
