There is one nurse here that really does not care about the patient at all. Three times I've had my blood drawn by her and three times she's caused some injury, mainly the way she pulls the needle out. She does not pull it out correctly and instead decides to life the needle upward while pulling it out causing a rip in the skin. Don't have the name of this nurse, but her hair is dyed blonde. Not sure why shes not taking her job seriously but I'd rather not get injured every time I come here. Everyone else there is very nice though, except for blonde lady. read more

I went to the Quest, Castro Valley location about a week ago to have blood drawn. An older woman, rather short and a bit overweight, who had an accent (not sure where from) was the technician I had to deal with! Everything went fairly smooth, right up to when she got the blood in the tube.. She then put a small piece of gauze, folded over, and about one inch square over the needle hole. As usual, I started to put my finger on the gauze so she could put a piece of tape over it. Before I could press the gauze down with my finger, she suddenly grabbed the gauze. It fell on the armrest and smeared some blood on it. When I asked this woman what was wrong, she angrily snapped at me, telling me to just let her do her job. She then proceeded to put an enormous piece of gauze over that small needle hole. The piece of gauze was about 2 inches by 3 inches. It required an extra piece of tape just to hold it down. It was totally unnecessary to use that much gauze. The original piece, one inch square was all that was needed. There was still blood on the armrest, from when she dropped the first piece of gauze on it. I told her about it two or three times, and she said she would take care of it. We both walked out of the room (#3) at the same time and she still hadn't cleaned up the blood on the armrest. The hepatitis B virus had recently been detected in my blood, and it is transmitted to others through the blood! How dangerous could that be for the next person in the same chair? This woman was not only rude, but incompetent. Why would she suddenly grab a normal-sized piece of gauze, and replace it with a piece many times larger? When I got home and took that big piece of gauze off, there was one little blood spot on it! The one inch square piece would have done fine. I'm reporting that technician to one of the supervisors that deals with employee problems. she should be replaced! read more

This place has a very poor customer service. I came here to get my lab work from my provider, which I verified before making an appointment, but when I got there they claimed that I don't have one. It's an outstanding order that has not expired because the last one I took was just recently. This happened to me before here and I thought that was just an isolated incident. I had an appointment at 12 and didn't get seen til well after 12:30. They ended up taking the two people after me (12:15 and 12:30). This was a waste of my time and I feel that the staff undermined me completely without even an apology to the unnecessary waiting. If your employer ask you to get screened by quest ask for another location because this was ridiculous. read more

I came here to do an employment drug test last Saturday and waited in line for 45 mins for them to tell me they don't do employment drug testing on Saturdays and to come back during the weekdays. Well today is Tuesday, I'm 3rd in line because I came early, and now they tell me they don't start employment drug test until 9am wtf! I mean mention that on your website or have some kind of signs letting customers know so they don't keep wasting time...argh! read more

If you can't get an appointment and have to go that day (especially when on a Saturday), go right when they open or about 20 minutes before they close. Btw, your complaining is annoying. I should have checked the reviews before bringing my 15 month old son here for his first blood draw order by his pediatrician. If I did, I might have just drove further out to Oakland Children's Hospital but instead I came here because it is close to my home. Luckily, my husband and I were both present to comfort my son through the terrible experience. In spite of the staff's assertion that they have a lot of experience (15 and 17 years worth) and have worked with plenty of children, the way they treated me, particularly my son, leaves me to question their experience and professionalism. My son had to endure multiple bad attempts to draw his blood. The wait wasn't long for us, but the actual blood drawing time took a long time. The first technician, a rude woman, actually gave up, walked out, and got someone else to do it, blaming my son for having small veins, as small children tend to have! She was quite impatient with the crying that her poking induced and bumped me hard as she rushed out of the room. The second technician, a nicer man, fared a little better in my eyes, mostly because he was more patient and actually showed kindness to my son (he is the reason I am giving this place two stars instead of one). He ended up having to push the needle in and out of the back of my son's little hand, which I know hurt him, but at least the blood slowly trickled out. The first lady came back and impatiently noted how slow the blood was coming out as the receptionist came in to interrupt the procedure with some questions about another patient that has nothing to do with us during this time. I was not impressed with the two women there. I am hoping that my son won't be needing his blood drawn again any time soon, and I would probably take him elsewhere next time. For parents of other small children, I would advise that you get your lab work done somewhere else and save yourself the attitude from the ladies who are not very kind. read more

I come here every very often for blood tests. Every time I come here, all my technicians are awesome! They're very nice and helpful. I understand that the wait time may take awhile because if you DON'T have an appointment, of course they are going to serve the people who walk in with an appointment first. This really irked me...this lady comes in with her impatient teenage son and says "my doctor faxed my order over". I forget her name but the lady that helped her was very courteous to her. She couldn't find her fax and asked the patient to call her doctor. So she does and she tells the tech that they sent it over already but yet she couldn't find it. The patient was getting impatient and and told her that the fax was sent via electronically. Ok....if they don't normally get things sent over electronically, how would she know how to get it? The lady was huffing and puffing and yet the tech was still very patient with her. Mind you, there were only TWO people that day that was helping our a room full of people. The lady was demanding for help. I feel for these people because some people just are not patience enough to just WAIT. I loved the tech that helped me. She was sassy when I told her about what the situation was outside and we had a good time while she was drawing my blood. I just wished people knew about why it would take so long for walk ins. FYI, this place closes before the hours stated on their sign and website. Raced out of work early to collect a urine sample from a very sick family member who is bedridden, raced across town to drop off the cup and arrived at the office at 4:26. They must close before 4:26 p.m., because the light was off the door was locked and the sign said they closed at 4:30. Two other people were already there when I got there and they were holding their urine samples waiting to drop off as well, and there was no one there to give our samples to. It's not like we needed 10 or 15 minutes to have our blood drawn. If you're going to close before 4:30, change your stated hours to reflect that so I don't rush across town thinking I can get the sample turned in and the culture started. We made an appointment for next week for the blood draw at 3:45 PM. Website says they close at 4:30 that day too. I sure hope they're open when we get there, because this is going to involve a lot of pain and suffering for a family member to be moved into a wheelchair and a great deal of expense for wheelchair van to drive them to the lab. read more

They were not able to draw the blood for my toddler, tried 3 times and didn't work! Need to go back another day! The most horrible thing is that they insert the needle and move it left to right , up and down to search the veins??!!! And they did that for multiple times! I ended up making an appointment at their Fremont office for this coming Tuesday. I walked in at 1:20 and ended up walking out at 2:45. At no time, was my name called nor did anyone without an appointment receive service. I was there for a drug screening urinalysis for my employer. I thought I would be here an hour at tops because of the lack of appointment. There were 12 people in the waiting room when I walked in, signed in and sat down. The gentleman next to me had been there since noon. There is no receptionist. The people who work there read from 2 lists. The appointment list and, I guess, the walk in list. There is no rhyme or reason to their business practice. Someone walked in and 5 minutes later dropped off their blood samples even though they had to sign in and there were 10 people signed in before her who had not been helped. One female told a co-worker, "Are you going to help the old man?" Her voice was loud enough to where I heard her and the ladies to the right of me commented how rude she was. Unprofessional, yes. When I was finally in the back, the guy asked me a bunch of questions, he should have already known if he looked at my paperwork, then when he was getting ready to take my blood, in the room next door, two boys were having their blood taken, they were screaming at the top of their lungs, their lady came in my room and asked my guy if he would go hold the boys down, he did. He came back after a few minutes, and took my blood, then handed me five vials full of my blood and asked me if my name looked okay, I had just told him I don't like the sight of blood, so I wasn't very happy. This facility has been busy for a while. So, I've decided to schedule an appointment. The first time I made an appointment, I arrived 5 mins early to check in. I reminded the receptionist that I had an appt. Her response, " We will be with you shortly." I was not seen till 45 mins later. Six months later, I had to do another set of blood work. Made an appointment, arrived 10mins early to check in. Was not seen for another 40 mins . What is the point of making an appointment? I would give 5 stars for the people who work here, as they are nice and competent. However, I am deducting 2 stars for this last visit. We arrived 10 minutes early for our appointment. At the same time there was a walk-in. Every other time we've been here in the past year, they have said no to walk-ins (probably Covid protocol), or the walk-ins are told that all appointments come first and they will have an hour to two wait. This time, however, they not only took the walk-in before us, but they also took someone whose appointment was 30 minutes AFTER ours. It made absolutely no sense. The phlembotinist that took my daughter's blood was sweet, and did her job well as far as I can see. BUT... They def. need a receptionist. Or at least there was not one there that day...and if they are going to post signs that ask people to refrain from calls, they need to adhere to it. There was a very RUDE customer being very loud and ghetto on his phone and speaking down on people due to sexual orientation. That shit doesn't fly with me, soooo I pointed to the sign and said something to him he proceeded to be extremely rude and saying inappropriate things to me. Not one staff member intervened... This place does not pick up calls. When you get there the attendants are rude and non cooperative. When I got there for drug screen they said that we have stopped drug screen. There is no way to get that information remotely (online or via call). The lady said it is on the door (that tells me about the IQ of the attendants) You are expected to go and read their door to know about their services.. Never going back here. read more

you can go to any of their offices with an appointment and there should not be any problem. walk-ins would normally take more waiting time as they serve patients who placed an appointment---of course! most of their phlebotomist are so good that you won't feel any venipunctures done on you. the office is clean and the staff are all nice and helpful. always make an appointment so you won't have to wait for a long time. read more

Worst place ever. I went there 3 weeks ago and got blood drawn. Told him to use a butterfly needle & he uses an adult needle instead. My arm instantly swelled and became sore all around. It became very painful and started to bruise. Went to the doctor a few days later to be told he gave me a hematoma and all the blood that's clotting under my tissue is now an infection. I ended up having to go to emergency. It's been 3 weeks since I got stabbed but someone who is unprofessional and I'm still going through all this. Trying to get it better. Never again will I go here or recommend it to anyone. Something needs to be done about this place read more

This place is honestly the worst quest I have ever been too. Everyone here is extremely rude and disrespectful. I came in a few weeks ago for a test at 10am as they did not have any appointments. She went on and on about how they didn't have my blood work and they couldn't take me even though she hadn't looked up my information to see if I had the labs sent over. I asked her multiple times to look it up and she said again and again how she wouldn't be able to take me. I said please at least look up my information and she finally said she did have the blood work but would not take me so I left. I came in again today at 1140 only to pick up a sample cup. The guy who was working at the front loudly while helping another person says what time is your appt and I told him that I was here to just pick up a sample cup. The lady rushes out and says lock the door we are not taking anyone else and it wasn't even 12 o clock yet. The staff here is horrible and extremely rude. Only reason I gave one star is because I had too. Really need to hire new people here as they are in customer service and are providing a medical service. This is for the Castro Valley location....It doesn't let you give 0 stars, but that would be the score if available. The absolute worst....posted hours say they are open until 4:30pm....looking to get blood drawn as a walk in at 3:50pm, not one person is there waiting. Logic would say that with 40 minutes and no one waiting, you might get service. Of course not. They have no one working the front desk, just a computer that you have to sign in on. It asks whether you have an appointment or not. When you answer No, it makes you fill out a bunch of other info. After completing all this, you get a message saying there is no room for any walk-ins the rest of the day and asks if I want to make an appointment instead. Ummmm.....why not just say you aren't taking walk-ins up front? There obviously was plenty of time since no one was there waiting for a booked "appointment." The posted hours are obviously a complete joke, if you go on their website they will not have any times for appointments after 3:50pm available, even though they list up to 4:20pm as "possible"....those are always grayed out. I looked every day for two months, it's safe to say they aren't "open" until 4:30pm. Why they don't let people know this is just beyond dumb and frustrating, I wasted 45 minutes going there for nothing. It doesn't take 30 minutes to draw blood which is what the majority of people are going there for, so even showing these appointment times is blatantly false if they aren't going to allow any appointments after 3:50pm. This is one place I wish I could give negative stars. I hadn't been back to this location since just after our son was diagnosed with a rare disorder. I was at the time forced to go here to have bloodwork done to make sure it was a random occurance. While I was pregant with our son, I went here for all of my pregnancy related bloodwork and came out bruised every single time. The staff was loud, obnoxious and not very professional at the time. When I had the special bloodwork done, they were even less professional and very loud about private information. Anyway, I warned my husband to request that his bloodwork be done at Eden Hospital (Because their lab really does an excellent job). The doctor still sent him to Quest. When he went in, we had a non-blood sample that needed to be dropped off here for our son for a special research study he is involved in. The requesting doctor provided all the information on the order sheet and initially they refused to take it from my husband. They said they needed to know the doctors name that was clearly printed on the request form. My husband came home unsuccessful and so I headed down there. I walked in and they guy behind the counter tried to tell me that my husband didn't tell him that was the doctor. I told him, that he needed to take it, and that the doctors name was clearly printed and that I know my husband told him who the doctor was. He took the sample and we were done. It's just such a hassle to get anything done here. Also, watch your bills when you go here, often times they will not submit them properly and try to bill you full amounts saying your insurance won't pay. 3 times this happened to us and I called our insurance only to find out that they never really submitted it. read more

The negative reviews here are no exaggeration. I've been to this lab twice, both times sucked, and I won't be going back. First off, the place is clearly understaffed. The second time, it was crowded and the wait was 45 minutes, but even when there were only two other people there the first time I came, it still took forever. The woman at the front desk (not sure about her name---she also did my blood test one time) was blunt to the point of rudeness, made fun of my name (it's unusual and a lot of people comment on it, but in a medical setting, it's inappropriate and insensitive), interrogated me with unnecessary questions both times (it was all explained on my paperwork), and tried to discuss personal medical details (I wasn't going for it and I cut her off) loudly in front of a waiting room full of people. On top of that, she and the rest of the staff were constantly shouting to each other across the room (so that all of us had to listen to their conversation) and bitching and complaining about their jobs. My phlebotomist the second time even did it while she was taking my blood. It bled a lot afterward, by the way, and the first time around, I was left with a huge bruise. Considering that folks who come in for blood tests are dealing with all sorts of sensitive and sometimes painful issues, you would think the staff would act accordingly, but not at this locale. The staff at the San Leandro location are much more professional and pleasant. I haven't tried Pleasanton, but that's another option. read more

I was pleasurably surprised what GREAT service I got at Quest considering their rating on YELP was poor. I walked in and it was very clean (they moved into a new building about 2 years ago), I proceeded to registered at the front desk and was called in sometime later (it didn't seem to long because I met this nice couple, Jim and Chris, and we were talking it up) by Claudette. Claudette is GREAT, super sweet, did everything she could to put me as ease (I hate getting blood drawn, because they never get me on the first stick) and she knows her job well. I was sooooo EXCITED, she got my vein the first time and it didn't even hurt. I recommend Quest and Claudette to everyone!! :) read more

I went in today for a blood test at the new location in Eden Medical Center on Castro Valley Blvd, and it was as good a experience as any I have had at a lab. The location is easy to find, there is parking, the facility is clean. I had an appointment at 8:30 am, but i got there early at 8:05am. I was taken in right away. The front desk girl was nice and cordial. She ended up being the person who drew my blood as well. She was efficient and caused very little pain. I would go back. Give this place a try, don't be affarid of all the bad reviews. read more

The wait is long and the employees are always mean and sad. Seems like they hate their job

They get a lot of referral business from the hospital and numerous clinics nearby, but handle it badly through chronic understaffing. The waiting room is too small for the typical backlog they have. The nurses there are fine but overworked. I waited 1.5 hours for a 1 minute blood draw. If they are going to stick with their first-come, first-served business model of service delivery, they could solve their morning backlog by hiring an additional two phlebotomists for mornings only. I'm sure there are lots of retired or semi-retired nurses or CLS' with phlebotomist certification who would love to work mornings only. read more
