For years I've been searching for a seafood restaurant without all the bells and whistles. Meaning I don't need fancy plating, I just need delectable meat. I think that I've actually found a place that delivers in the area. This place is not for you fancy schmancy people, it's for people that want to eat good seafood and leave with remnants of crab juice on their clothing. It's actually of the beaten path and I'd suggest calling before actually arriving to ensure they have exactly what your taste buds require. When we arrived last night there weren't any crabs which is fine by me. It took a little longer than usual I suspect because there was only 1 waiter and 1 bar tender, not sure if this is normal but a star deduction. Nonetheless, my friend ordered beer and I'm not a beer drinker but I remembered a grapefruit beer I had in New Orleans and wondered if they had it. I knew that it'd be a long shot but they actually had it maybe I should add that point back. Our food arrived looking soo delicious and it was definitely delicious and worth the wait. The crab legs were pretty meaty and seasoned really well. The restroom was in the dungeon like basement but let me tell you... the bathroom was beyond clean. And the hand soap smelled sooo good. We were promptly seated. The service was great, despite it being an extremely busy night. I could tell the waitstaff worked together great as a team. The food was very fresh, I could tell everything was made to order. Medium crabs were 95$/dozen. The price was a little steep, but they were hot, fresh, and well seasoned. I must say I am pleasantly surprised. This is one of the most well-rounded crab houses I've been to in the DC metro area. Local crab houses are usually limited to Maryland blue crabs, snow crab legs, and steamed shrimp along with a handfull of sides. Quarterdeck; however, offers all of the above in addition to Dungeness crabs, mussels, po'boys, AND last but not least, crab cakes! Quarterdeck offers two broiled 4 oz lump crab cakes as a dinner entree. While it is not jumbo lump, I was far from disappointed. The crab cake was seasoned well and contained no filler at all. While accompanied with a house made tartar sauce, the crab cakes were stand alone and did not need it. My mom came here last weekend (she was in National Harbor for the wknd) and said it was to die for so we all loaded up in the car (6 of us) from Claymont, De (2.5 hour ride) and came down the following Sunday. Everything was just ok. We were a party of 4 and my nephew wanted to order a mix of hush puppies and onion rings. He was was told no even though they were showing on the same line on the menu. The rings were cold. We both ordered lobster mac and cheese and it was bland. Not sure which cheese they used but I had to add salt and pepper. I've never done that at any other restaurant. I wanted to order a side of crab legs but was told I had to the crab leg dinner then I could order the side. Ugh. My sister order some linguine seafood dish and it had an orange cheese sauce? Very unexpected. Then came the bill. It had a 20% tip added. The website saiid a party of 5 a tip would be added. We're 4. I have been coming to quart deck for over 8 years I love this place a whole lot but my last experience from today 6.1.2024 after church have been horrible I had two Don Julio lemon drops a dozen and half of crabs a dozen of oysters and why the crabs and oysters were amazing I had concerns about my drinks the first one had red bugs in it about 5 I asked about it the answer was they use the shaker for multiple drinks the second time when I actually took the bug out the waiter said oh I didn't see it sooo.... Found this on a whim while visiting from out of town and looking for a lobster roll. It was so good! We weren't into the buckets of crab but it was funny to see them all over peoples tables and people hitting them with a mallet. My fiancé and I come to quarterdeck all the time. It really is our go to restaurant! The food is always amazing no matter what you order and the service is amazing. Everyone is super friendly and most have been working there for years so they know the restaurant well. Some of my favorites from here are the crab cakes, the burger, whole crabs, Mac and cheese, and the clam chowder. I love taking family and friends here from out of town when they come to visit. My son just moved to the area so we had to go somewhere for blue crab. This place was great! The crab were fresh, they were cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. Since they were live crab, we were told it would take about 35 min to receive them. Not a problem, since this was our first time here we decided to get an order of fried shrimp and the lobster Mac and cheese to share and fill the time. The lobster Mac was good and a very large serving. The fried shrimp were also good. Service was absolutely great, our server even took the time to answer questions for my son regarding techniques for eating fresh blue crab. The only reason I am giving this place 4 stars is because of the forced 20% gratuity. If it is a forced charge and is not optional than it is not a gratuity, it is a service charge, fee or tax. Having said that, we did receive great service and did provide an additional tip above the 20% fee (only because I would have normally tipped more than 20% based on the excellent service received), but I was very disappointed with this policy. When I see a policy like this it immediately lowers my expectations for the service I will receive and of the restaurant as a whole. (In case you couldn't tell, forced service charges/fees/taxes are a peeve of mine.) read more

Quarterdeck is my delicious divey go to spot for seafood! Tucked in a little neighborhood not too far from Rosslyn. Although this is the spot for crabs. I'm not a big fan of working for my food. Yet, I hear the crabs are delish. I consistently order the jumbo shrimp dish (buffalo sauce on the side) with two sides. My sides vary from fries and cole slaw to mac n cheese and broccoli to all veggies. It just depends on how I'm feeling in the moment. Anyway, the shrimp is always cooked to perfection. Juicy on the inside, crisp on the outside. And of course, toss all this deliciousness back with a Port City Optimal Wit. It was my mother's birthday and she loves crabs. We surprised her. She had no idea where she was going. When we walked up to the restaurant and she saw crabs on other guest tables, she was overjoyed. My mother and sister enjoyed their steamed crabs. They were amazed at how large the crabs were and that the restaurant will take back empty crabs and give you more. The crabs were fresh, hot and well seasoned. Others in our party enjoyed their burger, shrimp po boy and fish and chips. Prices are quite expensive and the restaurant is small (need updating). My mother had a hard time going up and down the stairs to use the restroom. That needs to be addressed greatly. This is why I deducted one star. read more

We did not get seated for 20-30 minutes even with reservations, but they did comp our appetizer (one pound of shrimp!). When the place is packed the servers are very busy, so bring your patience. Personally, I say go for the fresh crabs and don't mess around too much with the other things on the menu. Tried many places to dine in at Virginia but this was by far my favorite. Great atmosphere and fantastic staff and food. All servers were friendly and very attentive. The food was A+ I had the crab cakes and they were delicious beyond words. The place has a very authentic cool "bayou" feel to it even though it's not by any water! I have been to this Restaurant a lot , and absolutely love the Crabs & most of their Seafood . But I just don't understand why people that work there are in Service industry but aren't nice , helpful or want to be there .Every time I say this is last time . The Host gentleman think Manager is rude & even when have a reservation they act as that's not enough or the quests are inconvenient them . I was in service industry my entire life & I don't get it . If I was owner I be pissed that my help aren't kind . The wait staff always say , I am alone I am doing bar , host & waitressing , why is this ? You have entire front pavement outside and never have table set up , so then never enough outside sitting . You have to spend $ to make $ , never flowers or set up nice . . Everytime I use restroom out of Tp & dirty . Just could be such a better establishment if cleaned it up , Live music , plants , lights outside . Make no sense to me .
