Parking - DT Street parking, nearby parking garages Ambiance - Excellent for couples, date nights, small group casual dinning. Service - Great and attentive, even had a lady that worked there - come check on you; that is not your waitress. Food - Great presentations in general, delicious while mindful of the allergies and/or dietary restricted. In addition, creative yet, staying aligned to the Chinese authenticity! Prices - Def not on the faint wallets as you can tell it is tailored more to the visitors/DT crowds. Overall, I would give it a 4 stars - What could tailor it to a 5 start experience is it offered Opera singing that is true/close to what the vibe depicts (A Chinese opera singer). Perhaps play some chinese opera song or even the infamouse Teresa Teng. Also, provide your wonderful tin cup as a souvenir like a desert as a complimentry gift to show the Chinese hospitatlity. A++++

I met a couple of friends here last week for an early (before 5pm) get together that I thought was a happy hour, but turns out they don't have happy hour so we paid regular prices. The place reminded me of Ling Wu in the Grove area because the decor looked similar. Maybe they are owned by the same people? Firstly, I was impressed with the fact they had a FREE parking garage nearby since this is in the downtown area and next to Whole Foods. It took me a bit to find it as I'm directionally challenged, but I did and was just running a bit late. We really enjoyed the food and cocktails. I got the Singaporean noodles, a mezcal drink, and a sake. The serving size was big so I had plenty to take home. We shared many of the other dumplings and dim sum items. Everything was very good! The place wasn't too crowded so after we paid our bill we sat around for a while longer to chat and catch up. Usually someone would come by to see if we needed or wanted anything further, but no one did so we kept chatting and left. I'm happy to know of a central location with easy parking as a future place to meet people. I wish they had a happy hour because the bill for 3 of us was unexpectedly higher than usual.

My partner was craving Chinese food, so we looked up Qi Austin on Yelp. We gave them a call ahead of time to ask if we needed reservations and to get a sense of how busy they were since we were only 20 minutes away. The person who answered the phone mentioned that it tends to get pretty busy, but didn't share much else and seemed a bit brusque. Despite that, the pictures of the food looked really tempting, so we decided to give it a try. Parking was a breeze. We parked across the street in the Whole Foods lot because we planned to do some grocery shopping afterward. As we walked in, we were given the option to sit on the patio or just sit at the countertop. We chose to sit inside at the countertop. We ordered Peking duck, honey beef, and hot and sour soup. I also went with the braised ox tail. The hot and sour soup looked very flavorful, but to me, it tasted more like water with just a little hot oil on top. The Peking duck had a good flavor to the meat but the skin wasn't very crispy. The braised ox tail was so tough to chew that I had to send it back. I make the same dish at home with star anise and shaoxing wine but I cook mine for 48 hours on a lower simmer and the ox tail always falls off of the bone. This oxtail at the restaurant was too tough to ever fall off of the bone with ease and there was no tenderness to the meat. We also ordered the mango bomb dessert which was the best dish of the night. The orange flavored chocolate spoon worked really well with the mango bomb's delicious flavors with the edible flower petals and raspberry flavored crumbles. I could eat the dessert all day long. Altogether, the quality of the food is not as good as its presentation. Yes, dessert ended on a high note and that is probably what the restaurant hopes that people would remember as they leave so that they forget the earlier dishes that looked great, but didn't taste so great.

An elevated Chinese food spot. I was craving soup dumplings one evening so we stopped here for dinner one night with our pup to sit on the patio. The soup dumplings ($14) are REALLY delicious. The Beef Chow Fun ($26) is also really great and comes in a huge portion. The interior looks absolutely luxurious. Staff are very friendly :)

Went to Qi for dim sum brunch and overall had a really enjoyable experience. Qi is know for combining western and traditional Chinese cuisine by using local organic farming. Did not have a reservation on this occasion, but they always make me feel welcome and manage to fit us in. Sat on the outdoor covered patio that was cool and shaded. The atmosphere is modern and lively, making it a great spot for a weekend brunch. Started the meal with cocktails including Lycheetini with Deep Eddy Vodka, Giffard Lichi-li. lemon, cranberry, I cut the cranberry. Also had a Fresa Paloma with Socorro Reposado Tequila, Contratto, strawberry, lime, grapefruit, five-spice that was very sweet and garnished with a flower. You are given a card where you can mark your dim sum selections. I ordered the Shrimp Pancake, Snow Crab Ball and Chinese Sausage Sticky Rice. The standout was the shrimp pancake that had a really great texture and flavor. The snow crab ball had a strange texture with shrimp surrounding the snow crab claw. The Chinese Sticky Rice is always a favorite. Also ordered the Truffle Egg Fried rice and Birds Nest with Seasonal Vegetable. The Truffle rice is so flavorful like a flavor explosion in your mouth. The Birds Nest is made with fried potato shreds which contain the a variety of vegetables including cauliflower, peppers, mushrooms and asparagus. The nest is also edible and has a crunchy texture. The presentation of the food is amazing and everything came out hot and fresh. The flavors were on point, and you can tell there's attention to detail in the preparation. Service was attentive outdoors and the pacing of dishes felt just right for a relaxed brunch. This restaurant is truly a gem whether you come for brunch or dinner service. Will definitely be back.

A large group of us came for dinner - the ambience is super fun, modern, and vibey! Service was prompt, friendly, and accurate. As for the food - everyone loved their dishes! The flavors were spot on and delicious. The only challenge we had was that they would not allow split checks or at least partially split checks - so we spend a huge amount of time figuring out what everyone owed. I wouldn't do a large group here in the future, but I'd definitely come back for a date or small group.

Marlee S.

So glad we went here! We stopped by for drinks and appetizers on a Friday evening, and they seated us on the patio right away. Even though it's July, the patio felt nice with the shade and fans. We ordered the beef bao buns, soup dumplings, and pork belly. Both the drinks and the food were delicious. We would definitely come back!

I dunno whatsamatter with me but I apparently have failed to review Qi (pronounced Chee) before now. Perhaps because we are always visiting in transit through Austin. We've dined here for lunch I think five times now. And we will NEVER visit Austin w/o a stop here. LOL. Our server on our first visit was Danny and he again attended to us this visit this week. He is absolutely wonderful. He is managing this store now. This is one of the most enjoyably attractive restaurants ever as you can see from all the pics here on Yelp. Qi's dumplings are on the upper levels of heaven side of divine. Try the shrimp har gow dumplings. The egg drop and hot and sour soups are exceptional. We love the salt and pepper shrimp but this week we splurged for the Honey Akaushi Beef at lunch. Oh my word. Fork-apart tender cubes of savory beef with grilled onions in a honey, black pepper sauce to die for. It will be a challenge to considerer ever looking at the menu again as long as the kitchen is doing this dish. Qi has the most wonderful chopsticks. They're beautiful and so enjoyable to use. I bought two pairs our first visit and I take them to use at Chinese and Japanese restaurants here at home! LOL. Free garage parking in the same building. What is not to love about this restaurant?

Private room, seats about 12 comfortably

Came here with a group of coworkers and we sat in a private room upstairs. The ambiance of the whole place is very upscale, and late on a Monday night it was relatively busy. The food was good, could use a little more flavor. The presentation and service were outstanding, and the drinks and cocktail selection was fantastic. Overall, Id say, great place for a corporate function when you are not footing the bill and can try a lot of things on the menu, to find what you like most. My favorites were the duck and flat noodles. Oddly, the restaurant does not have an espresso machine, which was a bummer for some of our coworkers who wanted a little boost after a long day and a filling meal.

Bryan B.

First time at this location after trying the sister location a few weeks before. We enjoyed both! Drinks were really refreshing on a warm summers evening. Service was also great at both locations and the setting is very relaxing. Will be back to try more options very soon!

Kristine L.

Came back during the day to try brunch on a Saturday! There was plenty of seating so it was very easy to walk in. My favorites were the beef chow fun, soup dumplings and chicken feet. Everything came out quickly and fresh, it's just a little pricey for what you get

Kiaya S.

I hosted my 30th birthday party here and I don't think it could have gone any better! Seemless booking for 14 and we were stationed in a room above the restaurant which was gorgeous! Attentive service and fast food and drinks! Everything came out hot and perfect!!!! This was my second time hosting an event here but my first time with such a big group! We were able to split the check evenly which I informed my guests of before hand! I couldn't imagine hosting anywhere else!!! This is the best restaurant in Austin !!!!

Rob C.

Qi Austin has serious style -- it's like dim sum went to finishing school and came back with impeccable manners and great taste. We started with the soup dim sum, which was soothing and refined, like a comforting whisper of flavor. Then came the Crispy Sea Cucumber Har Kaw, and wow. Easily the star of the show -- crispy on the outside, tender and shrimp-like on the inside, with a sauce so good I briefly considered licking the plate. (I didn't. But I thought about it.) The duck pancakes were also quite good -- rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented. But while everything tasted fresh and well executed, there was a certain "something" missing to push it into five-star, write-home-to-grandma territory. Maybe a touch more warmth, or just one more standout bite. Still, Qi has its act together -- refined atmosphere, attentive staff, and dishes that make you feel a little fancier than you really are. Four stars, but very solid ones. I'll be back... probably dreaming about that har kaw the whole way there. And be careful, they close from 2:00-4:00!

The service is amazing! I was part of a party if 3, we started with drinks and appetizers. We started with a variety of appetizers, the Shanghai Soup Dumpling, the Scallop Caviar Sui Mai, and the Crab Meat Fish Maw Soup Dumpling, they were all very good. We each had two drinks, one friend highly recommends the Gold Digger margarita. I thought the watermelon martini was very good. Finally, we ordered the Szechuan Peppercorn Alligator, it was tasty but definitely lacked luster when compared to the appetizers. I will definitely go back and try other options. Their patio is a great environment for a gathering of friends to just hangout chat and try foods, we never felt rushed. If you like Asian style foods I recommend giving it a try. read more

Personally felt it was over rated. The $32 fried rice was not much better than what you could get at a hole in the wall, but 3x the price. The chicken dish we ordered was good, but not outstanding. I think we ordred wrong...I hear now it's all about the dumplings. I did appreciate the modern yet traditional Chinese asethetic and service was friendly. read more

Ohh my gosh, this place was amazing. As a pescatarian, there were plenty of options: crab meat fish maw soup dumpling, shrimp har gaw, salt and pepper tofu, bird's nest, and truffle fried rice. The crab soup dumpling was amazing, and I would definitely come back to get it. Shrimp har gaw was pretty standard, good but not mind-blowingly amazing, especially when compared to the other dishes. The salt and pepper tofu had a crispy, well-seasoned outside and was delicious. Truffle fried rice does have a deep flavor but it's mainly rice (there's maybe one egg in the whole dish) and so IMO it's not worth the $18 price tag, unless you really enjoy truffle. Since I came for my birthday, we ordered their birthday dessert, which is a cute chocolate mousse hedgehog filled with an icy raspberry filling (they have other animals too!). The two flavors paired wonderfully together, though it did look a bit gory when digging into the lil hedgehog haha. The secret real treat is the bathroom. Beautiful cave-like vibe, contrasted with a fancy toilet that automatically lifts its seat up for you, and oh my gosh, the paper towels. I wanted to take them home, they felt so good lol. Overall, a great higher-end Chinese restaurant. Definitely on the pricier side and can be easy to pile up the soup dumplings. Garage parking is free so that's super nice read more

Qi is a restaurant I really want to like because the food is really tasty, but I have had multiple frustrating visits and would be hesitant to go back until the restaurant is managed better. We like to eat later in the evening and as a general rule assume if a restaurant is taking reservations for a certain time, that they will be able to accommodate guests that book at this time. This is definitely not the case at Qi. We had booked a later reservation and almost immediately were told the kitchen was closing and we had to get our order in. Once we placed our order everything came out immediately (which meant most of our food got cold) and we felt unwelcome and left without finishing. We chalked our bad experience to bad luck an decided to give it a second shot, this time booking a slightly earlier reservation. Unfortunately, the experience wasn't much better. We were rushed to order entrees which due to a miscommunication came out before the appetizers (the server interpreted "give us five minutes on the entrees" to mean we didn't actually want any of the appetizers we ordered). We asked if it was possible to keep the entrees warm in the kitchen while we ate our appetizers and were told 'no'. Sensing our frustration, the server got her manager who essentially told us the restaurant closes at 10 and that despite the Resy app suggesting in multiple places "bookings are for two hours" we should not have anticipated if we booked for nine to be able to eat at a leisurely pace. This is fine, but pretty atypical (and as a general rule, I don't check the closing time of a restaurant). The food though is really good, the cocktail list is thoughtful (combining some traditional cocktails with their own originals), and the drinks are well-constructed. I certainly can imagine myself and others having a good experience at Qi. That said, I think they need to decide what they want to be as a restaurant. They have a fantastic location (which can't be cheap) and a fancy ambiance, but they don't back it up with staff who know how to run a restaurant. read more

Impossible to recommend QI Austin enough. There's everything to love here. Creative, healthy menu, decor, attention to detail, outdoor dining on the patio, compliant, safe, excellent service. Requested to turn the heat lamp on that was next to my date and I. It bothered the tables next to us which was understandable and we would've loved to help resolve it with moving or turning it off. Manager rudely moved us inside to a corner bar top which was okay too but then we were completely ignored by servers (maybe none were assigned for it?) and at the end we were just trying to leave and couldn't get anyone to check us out for so long Food was great as always. read more

We went in last night for dinner, and for a restaurant that is relatively still very new, they did an excellent job both with service and food. Kendall our server was great, made great menu recommendations and attentive. To start we had the Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Lobster Dumplings and Akaushi Beef Potstickers. We also had the Crab Meat Fish Maw Soup Dumplings, which for me these were real standout of the night - I could eat these daily, best dish. For the main my husband & I had the Combination Fried Rice and split the Peking Duck (half), which was sooo good - the crispy skin and flavors were delicious, and the rice was so savory, it was a perfect combination. They also make a fabulous Old Fashioned, and the ambiance is great. Absolutely loved Qi, will be back! read more

To start I had the lychee tini, it was refreshing and I'll definitely order it again if I come back. For appetizers I tried the soup dumpling and it was delicious! Much better than Lin Dim Sum even though they're owned by the same people. They gave little bowls for the soup dumplings too which makes it way easier to eat. My entrees included the akauski beef with green bell pepper and the imperial tofu. The beef was too fatty although it had a good taste. The imperial tofu was great but I did have minor food poisoning after eating something here. We also found a gnat in the rice. Our server was extremely friendly and the tables were spaced out nicely. Qi's interior design is more interesting than its food. Food is ok but I definitely had better dim sum elsewhere. One of the downside of Qi is that each dim sum order comes in 5 pieces, a bit too much if you come as a part of two. Had dinner at Qi the other night and food was delicious! We started with the recommended Shanghai soup dumplings (5 pieces) and beef Bao (3 baos) and both were very tasty. We then split the truffle egg fried rice and spicy chicken with pine nuts (pictured) which were great as well! Those 4 items definitely filled up my husband and I. Ambience is good, decor very beautiful, and they are doing an okay job at spacing out guests. I don't really need to leave a review here - Qi is everything is everything you could hope for. The food is exquisite and is as good as any Dim Sum we've had in the New York area. The ambiance is quiet and beautifully designed in what I imagine you might call a tea-house style. It's well worth the price for a special occasion - we were there for our daughters 21st birthday. read more

Stopped here for dinner on a Friday night. My son and I ate at the dumpling bar. Had appetizers - soup dumplings and the pork pot stickers. Both were very good. My son had a chicken entree and I had the fish which was amazing with a spicy broth. We shared the mango passion fruit dessert with an edible chocolate spoon! Everything was delicious. No stars given or taken for this. Just mentioning. We even tipped over the automatic gratuity. The food was all average. Not one dish stood out and we ordered a lot. We went for dim sum and the dumplings were pretty lackluster all around. The soup dumplings were dry and stuck to the foil cups and the others were like what we cook at home from Costco. The hot and sour soup was not spicy and again very average. We had a little and stopped. Even the steamed white rice seemed old. They have chilis next to certain items on the menu to indicate spicy and we ordered a few of those and nothing was spicy. The eggplant with garlic was enjoyed and the Bo luc lac was better than I expected but overall I would not return. Shrimp dumplings, siu mai, sticky rice, steamed rice noodles, fried taro balls, chicken feet, lo bak gou or pan-fried turnip cakes. Everything was decent, not outstanding, but ok. The failures are the lo bak gou, which is lukewarm, and the fried taro balls, which had the hardest shell I've every had, and also lukewarm. This are definitely leftovers from another day. I love the inside aesthetic and vibe of the restaurant. It is a perfect size and has a lot of different table options for both larger and smaller groups, and the seats were comfortable and setting intimate. The service was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable about gluten free options, explained the menu to me so I knew what I could eat safely with my gluten allergy, and even mentioned that they had gluten free dumplings off menu to which I quickly said, "Yes please!" Everything is traditional Sichuan, farm to table, and organic. The quality of the food was excellent, and outside of the dumplings, I could not tell the food was gluten free modified. The dumpling wrapper was most likely rice, but the pork filling was so good - it had subtle ginger notes and a sweet pork which was lovely. The Sichuan Deep Fried Chicken was hard to stop eating, but we had to because we had entrees coming! Definitely enough to feed 4 people as an appetizer, not too spicy, perfectly breaded and fried, and the chicken was super tender. We also got the Wok Toasted Cumin Lamb and the Chengdu Chili Chicken. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked with veggies and a subtlety spicy sauce that wasn't drowning the food and the flavors. I love Sichuan food because the veggies aren't cooked until soft, so they still had a fresh snap to them and complimented the spicy chicken well. The lamb is one of those dishes that you eat knowing that as you let it sit longer it will only keep getting better. I love the way the lamb was breaded/coated. Sometimes you have coated meat and it is not properly fried or some areas are dry, and then it isn't strongly seasoned so it tastes blah. Not this lamb! The seasoning, flavors, all shined bright with this beautifully tender lamb, and I also loved how it wasn't drowning in sauce which would have softened the subtle crunch. We took some home and about 3H later it was even better. Loved this dish! I also got their smashed pumpkin cocktail which may seem steep at $23, but oh was it delectable and worth every dime for some quality bourbon and nicely balanced fall pumpkin drink. If you're looking for something sweet, this isn't it, but you actually still taste the bourbon (which is delicious) and subtle pumpkin, and it was DELICIOUS. Overall, 5/5 hands down, and I'm only sad we didn't come sooner!

They do tend to get busy, as one would expect for such a limited window of opportunity, so come armed with patience. Even if it takes a bit to get a table, service is fast as can be. You'll be chowing down in no time once you can secure a seat. If you ask me, the crispy turnip cakes with shiitake are a must. It's so hard to find this made without meat or seafood, and they're doing it right. The braised eggplant is a close second favorite, but it is admittedly a large entree, not dim sum, though that's a good thing because it means you can order it any day, any time. The spicy cucumbers were also excellent, refreshing and crisp, perfect as a palate cleanser or started. Next time, I might skip the veggie dumplings, which were fine, but tasted mostly of cabbage, and little else. Most importantly, come with a crowd so you can order all the things and share around. That's the point of dim sum, after all.

Past it's prime. I recently visited QI Austin, a modern Asian kitchen in Austin, Texas, for a much-anticipated evening out with a group of close friends. We were drawn to the establishment by its reputation for offering traditional dim sum and other Asian-inspired dishes in a contemporary setting. Regrettably, our experience was overshadowed by notable deficiencies in service and, most prominently, in the quality of the cuisine. From the outset, the service proved inadequate for a social gathering. Despite our reservation, we encountered a prolonged wait to be seated, which disrupted the flow of our evening. The staff appeared overwhelmed and unresponsive; simple requests, such as additional napkins or menu clarifications, were handled with noticeable delays or forgotten altogether. This lack of attentiveness created an uncomfortable atmosphere, diminishing the enjoyment of our time together as friends. The food, however, represented the most significant shortfall. We selected a variety of dim sum options, including vegetable spring rolls and siu mai, complemented by shared entrees like fried rice and stir-fried greens. The dim sum items were served at an suboptimal temperature, with wrappers that were overly chewy and fillings that lacked depth of flavor, failing to capture the authentic essence of Asian cuisine. The entrees were equally underwhelming: the rice was dry and clumped, while the greens appeared overcooked and lacked freshness, suggesting inconsistencies in ingredient sourcing or preparation. Portions varied unpredictably, and the overall execution did not align with the restaurant's farm-driven ethos or its pricing structure. These culinary shortcomings left our group dissatisfied and unable to fully appreciate the meal. In conclusion, while QI Austin aims to provide a venue for modern Asian dining, the evident issues in service coordination and food quality rendered our outing disappointing. Individuals seeking a reliable spot for dim sum or Chinese fare in Austin would benefit from considering other establishments. read more

Qi is a hidden gem that takes you on an authentic culinary journey through the diverse and exquisite flavors of China. Located in the heart of the city, this restaurant promises a memorable dining experience. Our culinary journey began with an array of delectable appetizers. The Dim Sum Platter was a standout, featuring delicate dumplings filled with a variety of fillings, from succulent shrimp to flavorful pork. The pan-fried spring rolls were perfectly crispy, and the dipping sauces added a burst of flavor. For the main course, we opted for a mix of dishes from different regions of China. The Peking Duck was a showstopper, with thin, crispy skin and tender meat. The traditional table-side carving added a touch of drama to the experience. The Sichuan Kung Pao Chicken packed a spicy punch with its fiery chili peppers, and the Mapo Tofu was a silky, spicy delight. The Stir-Fried Shanghai Noodles showcased the chef's skill with wok cooking, and the flavors were spot-on. We also tried the fragrant Cantonese-style Steamed Fish, which was incredibly fresh and accompanied by a light ginger and soy sauce. The restaurant boasts an extensive drink menu, including a variety of Chinese teas and a well-curated selection of wines and cocktails. We paired our meal with a fragrant jasmine tea that complemented the flavors perfectly. Qi is a hidden treasure for those seeking an authentic Chinese dining experience. From the ambiance that transports you to China to the attentive service and the diverse, flavorful dishes, this restaurant is a must-visit for lovers of Chinese cuisine. The only reason for not awarding a full five stars is that, at times, the restaurant can be a bit crowded during peak hours. Nevertheless, it's a culinary journey worth embarking on. read more

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Qi, and it turned out to be a pleasant culinary experience. While it might not have been a mind-blowing revelation, there were certainly aspects of the meal that left a positive impression. Qi's ambiance is comfortable and inviting. The restaurant's interior is tastefully decorated with subtle Chinese motifs, creating a relaxed and cozy atmosphere. It's an ideal spot for a casual dinner with friends or family. Now, onto the food. Qi offers a broad range of classic Chinese dishes, and the menu has something to suit various tastes. The highlights for me included the General Tso's Chicken, which had a nice balance of sweet and savory flavors, and the vegetable dumplings, which were delightfully fresh and accompanied by a tasty dipping sauce. The hot and sour soup was another winner, with a satisfying blend of tanginess and spiciness. read more

We dined at Qi hoping for a memorable experience, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. While the food was decent, it did not justify the high price tag. The flavors were ok, but nothing stood out as extraordinary or unique to warrant the premium cost. What truly left a bad taste in our mouths was the service. We mentioned to our server that it was our anniversary and politely asked if they could write a small note on the dessert plate. Her blunt response, "We don't do this," was both disappointing and lacking in warmth. A little effort in customer service goes a long way, especially for special occasions, and this was a missed opportunity to create a positive memory. Overall, Qi might appeal to those who value ambiance or simply want to try it once, but with lackluster service and food that doesn't match its pricing, it's not a place we'd rush back to. read more

Had a fantastic evening out at Qi in Austin. This spot's got a great atmosphere - sophisticated yet relaxed, just the right setting for catching up with friends or enjoying a nice meal out. The Panang Curry was a hit, perfectly spiced and comforting, while the sushi rolls were fresh and innovative. What really stood out was the staff's friendly service; they knew their menu inside out and had spot-on recommendations. The drinks menu was impressive too, with some unique cocktails that paired well with the Asian flavors. Everything from the lighting to the presentation showed they care about the details. Definitely a place I'd recommend for anyone in Austin looking to satisfy their Asian cuisine cravings. Qi's got it all - good food, good vibes, and a memorable experience. read more

The service was exceptional and the overall atmosphere was lovely - especially during the holiday season. The cocktails were fun but a bit overpriced - didn't pack the flavor punch I was hoping for. The alligator was very dry but flavorful - wouldn't recommend getting a side of steamed rice with it. The sesame chicken was very good, had lots of sauce, and paired nicely with the steamed rice. Didn't get a chance to take a photo of the lobster dumplings for our appetizer but there were 3 in one order and were DELICIOUS. Overall, nice meal but some items left me wishing I had chosen a different option. read more

Love Dim Sum don't go here if you want to get lied to about "tons of reservations" make you sit at the bar. Looking young has the faults of being forced to sit at the bar with open tables and having to listen to a guy flirt with the bartender. No one cares if you're from Florida, or if a band makes you think of your ex. Terrible service, food mediocre there's better dim sum, more polite & taste eh. Look around overpriced and racist don't be Mexican walking in or else you'll be forced to listen to a middle age man get attention from the bartender.. pathetic. I hate writing reviews this deserved it. read more

Qi Austin is pretty good! Both their drinks and Chinese food were delicious. My favorites are Sesame Balls, Zha Jiang Noodle, and their Asian Fried Chicken. They have excellent food presentation, which makes the experience even better. The interior of the place was nice and cozy; I love the art wall in the bar area. And the staff was so nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Love this place! Overall, it was great, and I totally recommend it! read more

This restaurant is absolutely incredible, the meal was so fresh and delicious! Everything was so flavorful and properly prepared. We had no idea that the chocolate log cake would actually look like a little chocolate log, so cute! We also got the pecan shrimp, it is one of the most unique and delicious dishes I've ever tasted! I had an amazing experience! The ambiance is warm and inviting, with soft lighting and décor that made me feel right at home. I ordered the mushroom risotto, and it was perfectly creamy, with just the right amount of truffle flavor. My friend had the grilled salmon, which was fresh and perfectly cooked. The portions were generous, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. read more

Yummy food, great service. Did a lunch menu, a tasting menu, and a couple of menu dishes. Only two of us. So full, but couldn't stop eating. The dessert was quite surprising! The food there is really authentic and the price is reasonable. The place itself is clean and cozy with a good amount of seating. This is a must-try if you are seeking delicious Asian cuisine. read more

My family has been a regular at Lin's (the sister resturaunt) for quite some time, and when we learned that they were opening a second one we just had to go. It exceeded our expectations! The food isn't the same as Lin's, of course, but more of a formal setting with food just as good. The service was phenomenal, as always. Don't miss out on this one! read more

Our party of six had dinner mid-week at Qi and enjoyed our meal very much. I need not have worried however as this restaurant serves up some quite delicious sushi and Japanese cooked entrees. Located inside the Aidan Hotel, you won't have trouble locating the building-just look for the bright yellow Transformer sculpture out front. The hotel is renovated with a cool mid-century vibe while the restaurant dining room is spacious and comfortable sporting an Asian theme. The menu features sushi rolls, sashimi, and cooked items such as gyoza. The table service is outstanding. As soon as you order your items the kitchen staff is bringing it out to you in literally three to four minutes. The fish is super fresh, a key to quality with Japanese food. The Tokyo roll and cowboy roll were my favorites along with the shumai (steamed dumpling) and gyoza. Not everything was great though-the fried calamari could be used to play ring toss-and there was a certain lack of refinement that you might expect from a Japanese chef. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable experience and we will be returning. Recommended.

Roasted Duck Pancake -- The dish was served like pizza slices and the roasted duck on top of the scallion pancake was very tender and flavorful! I also appreciated the generous amount of duck bits on each slice. 2. Ling's Soup Dumpling -- Similar to Lin's Asian Dim Sum (sister restaurant), the soup dumplings did not disappoint! Each soup dumpling was packed with flavor and juice, and I love that they give you a smaller bowl to eat the dumplings with so you can make sure not a single drop of juice is wasted! Their house made red wine vinegar was absolutely one of my favorite side condiments, and I even kept the sauce to use for other dishes. 3. Beef Chow Fun -- Probably the most "bang for your buck" dish we ordered because of the generous portion of rice noodles! Although the dish comes with a side of chili oil, we got ours extra spicy, which gave it even more of a spicy kick! 4. Mei Choy Pork Belly -- The pork belly slices were very tender with a good ratio of lean meat and fat! The brown sauce was delicious and paired very well with the sauteed mustard greens (preserved vegetables). FEEDBACK: 1. I was shocked to hear that the $26 pork belly dish didn't come with a bowl of rice by default. Even though a side of rice was only $2, I personally think some of these entrees should naturally come with a bowl of rice because most Chinese dishes are meant to be paired with rice... 2. The service was a bit off from the beginning we got seated. We noticed some of our menus had sauce stains on them and we had to call our waiter to refill our waters throughout the meal. When dessert came around, they took our water cups away but we had to ask them for water again since we weren't done drinking them. Although we recognized that the restaurant closed at 10PM and we were the night party on a Tuesday, it was only around 9:15PM and we could feel like we were getting rushed out. 3. For spending over $200, I was surprised that the restaurant didn't provide a complimentary drink or dessert for my birthday meal. I understand that this is not a restaurant requirement but I don't remember the last time I haven't been offered a complimentary birthday treat, especially at a nicer sit-down restaurant. This, on top of everything else, just didn't sit well with me personally.

Ugly Dumpling is a decent spot to grab some standard Chinese food including dumplings, rice,…read morenoodles, and soup. It isn't the most mind blowing meal but they have a good amount of variety on the menu and the food is good enough to satisfy those Chinese cravings. NOTES: - Reservations: no - Online ordering: available for takeout or delivery on their website - Parking: free parking lot outside of the restaurant THE HIGHS: - Beautiful interior - Arrived at 7:45 pm on a Saturday night and got seated right away - Large tables which are perfect for holding a bunch of different dishes to share - Good variety on the menu - Large portion sizes THE LOWS: - Dishes come out as they are ready so they may not be in the order you were expecting - Dishes that were said to be spicy weren't spicy - Wanted to replace the side of white rice that comes with the Mongolian beef with noodles but got a separate side of noodles instead THE PRICE: The pricing is reasonable for this type of cuisine. - 6 pork soup dumplings: $12 - 3 steamed BBQ pork buns: $8 - Kung pao chicken: $16 - Mongolian beef: $19 - Shrimp & broccoli: $18 - Noodles with sesame sauce: $9 - String beans with garlic: $13 (+$2 to "make it ugly" aka spicy) BEST BITES: - String beans with garlic: these were cooked well and had a lot of delicious garlic flavor! We got them "spicy" but there was almost no spice... I would have loved more heat! - Steamed BBQ pork buns: the buns were steamed well and the pork filling had the perfect sweetness The vegetables that came with the various rice dishes were all cooked well and were very fresh! The portion sizes were large so there was enough to take home for leftovers. The dumpling dough was a little thicker than I would like for the soup dumplings but the flavor was really good. THE VERDICT: I'm happy I tried Ugly Dumpling and enjoy the variety they offer for dishes! I think it's a good spot to share a bunch of dishes with your friends or family. I would go back if I'm really craving dumplings or other Chinese dishes but I'm not going to rush back or recommend it to others as a "must try" in the Austin area.

They didn't hold together, the sauces were either too sparse or overwhelming, and temperature and texture felt careless. I was also disappointed that they ran out of hamachi and lobster and we didn't get to try that. Service: 3/5 Servers were attentive when we wanted to order more, but they took away a cocktail that wasn't finished. The food runners rushed, and we frequently ended up helping clear the table to make room, which was odd but likely a symptom of how tight everything is in there. We then waited another 15 minutes before flagging someone down for the check. The pacing was inconsistent for a restaurant at this price point. Ambiance: 3/5 (indoor) It's crowded, and tables are seated very close together. Cutting back on the decor for a bit more space would help. Standouts - Loved everything with blue crab. I highly recommend the dip and the handroll. - The outdoor patio looked great. - Ube twinkie was great Parking - Small dedicated lot. Street parking was easy, with no issues Overall We likely won't return at this time. This place needs time to mature and simplify before it matches what it charges, and right now it doesn't compete with the best Japanese cuisine in the city.

Fried Shui Mai 4.5/5 Definitely not shui mai! But very delicious, crispy, and the sauce is great as well. Sauce is also spicy! Green Curry 5/5 This was very delicious! Although a bit salty, the rice balances it out. I like this one because of the basil flavor and how the spice is only a hint. Very creamy, very good! Pad Thai 5/5 This was definitely my favorite!!! It was like an elevated pad thai. Very tart, sweet, delicious, umami, and overall just good. Very nice vibe, great place to take pictures, and the workers were very nice!! Seating is a bit strange.
