Small old time bakery size of one tiny room. Baked fresh!
Priscilla L.

I always like to try old establishments to see how their food tastes like. Yes this is a bit out of the way from the main road into the warehouse district area of Bakersfield. This place is across from the fire house station which is a small building as well but not as small as this tiny bakery that is only one room size. I was only car parked in front of the bakery. Don't worry plenty of parking since these streets are not busy with cars on a Saturday afternoon. Only one person inside. I read online they been making sourdough bread for years and I wanted to pickup a loaf. Their hours are limited so all the $3 day old bread shelf was empty. Other shelf has other breads displayed like multigrain bread and wall of photos. In front of me was a nice painting on the wall and some other rolls on the counter. In the glass case were some French bread loaves that to me looked fake or plastic, but the girl said it's real bread. So for the fun of it I asked to buy that and the sliced sourdough bread to go. I paid cash. When I got to my final destination in Las Vegas, I tried the bread. Even though it label itself as sourdough, it's not sour like a sourdough like that in San Francisco. But it's fresh and dense and nice bread made by mom and pop type of store. I think I found quite a number of unique places in Bakersfield since my years traveling through this city on to Las Vegas such as Dewars candy ice cream is a truly unique gem. Crumbl and Handels are nice as well.

We were taking a drive-in an area the other day and came across this pyrenee's bakery that has been there for so many years but we had never known that it was even there. So we decided to pull into the parking and go inside and take a look we made a choice of a couple of their breads they have for sale inside. We spoke to the sales person inside about the bakery. It's just a surprise to us that this spot was even at this location, we had never known. So if you're in the area and you'd like to pick up some fresh pyrenees bread go ahead and stop in and make your selection we do recommend it, because we always enjoy their bread. Now we know the location so we can go straight to the bakery to make our purchase instead of having to go down to the store. No fresher way to get it.

This is a small store where you can buy fresh breads. Apparently, this company is more of a wholesaler, as they provide fresh bread to numerous stores and restaurants in the Bakersfield area. At this store, they offer these fresh breads which you can purchase right there. There's a limited variety of breads and that's all they offer. It's not a full service bakery with cakes, pastries and the like. However, the breads are absolutely delicious, so if you're in the area and like fresh bread, this is the place.

This is some of the best bread I've ever had. and definitely the best bread baked anywhere in Bakersfield. You can buy it at most grocery stores in town, and it is served in many restaurants, too. The Pyrenees French Bakery bakes French bread daily as well as sourdough, wheat. They carry everything from rolls to large loaves of bread. Now, if this bread tastes so amazing when you buy it from the grocery store where it's been sitting on the shelves for several hours, imagine how good it tastes when you buy it freshly baked from the bakery itself! The bakery shop is tiny and only carries the different varieties of bread and a couple of cookbooks. It's not fancy, but you get to leave with loaves of freshly baked bread. What could be better than that?

I finally had a real cannoli here, and WOW. You get to choose between the classic filling or a maple-butter filling... I did half-and-half because I needed to experience it all. Next time? I'm going full maple butter--no hesitation. You can even get the ends dipped in nuts, chocolate, and a few other toppings. They make it fun. I also tried the apple butter tart and--wow again. Rich, flavorful, and honestly you don't need much because it hits. Definitely shareable... if you're feeling generous. This place is a little gem. I'm genuinely grateful it exists. Prices are reasonable, and while customer service was kinda "there but not there," I didn't even care because I was laser-focused on my desserts to go. They do have a few tables if you want to sit and enjoy your treats inside. I'll be back soon to explore more and I'll update once I discover my next favorite thing.

I will say this for what I have had. I got their chocolate, toffee tarte and that was so good. It was so well balanced out. The cookie top paired so well with the luscious chocolate filling. Staff are also so helpful. They told me about the instagram page where they post about the pastries they have that morning. Once I figure out my sleep schedule, I'm going to make a point to try and get a box of their stuff!

I went twice to this location two days in a row because I enjoyed it so much. First with a friend and then I had to introduce it to my kids. The coffees and teas are delish and unique, as well as the smoothies and juices (I didn't try those but my kids loved them). We tried a variety of baked goods, the honeycomb bread is sooooo dang good! Filled with little pockets of cream cheese, drizzled with honey, and topped with toasted regular and black sesame seeds (I forgot to take a pic of this one, but I'll add it next time I go). We enjoyed all of the pastries we tried- not a crumb on our plates by the time we were finished! The decor is beautiful and unique. All of the employees super nice and helpful. You can ask them for descriptions or ask for a menu to see details and ingredients. They're open late too, so I think my next visit will be a GNO or a date with my hubby.

Upon entry I was taken aback by the beautiful art that appears hand painted on the wall. It is beautiful! I wanted to get a feel for what Yemeni coffee is and how it differs from other regional coffees and I did not get that. We ordered a coffee and a matcha and I was able to try and enjoy both. I think it's good coffee and matcha I just didn't understand how their product differed from anything else. It's not bad and I would get it again but I didn't get a feel for the region. I remember when I tried Turkish coffee for the first time and the richness of flavor and strength, Salvadoran coffee and its rich aromatics, Palestinian and its rich nutty textures via spice, but here I was left wondering. Yes, this is a pistachio coffee, but what makes it different? I don't know. Yes, this is a pistachio matcha, but what made it different. Don't know. Good sure, but I can't really describe how it is unique. The baklava, certainly, provided this rich information. Compared to other baklavas it was drier and crunchier in a way that was satisfying and light. I would prefer to eat this baklava if I was watching my sugar and calories, which coincidently I currently am. Other baklavas are more decadent and syrup/sugar heavy. I was left with a want for more out of how light and delicious they are. I hope to try their cake offerings soon! Would return to continue trying their menu and would love to see a no straw option for the lid along with a more sustainable cup!

I ordered the strawberry cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes and lemon cupcakes with raspberry frosting and filled with raspberry filling. In my opinion they should give information on their website about all the flavors they can do or at least a few flavor idea suggestions, because when I called them to place my order I asked what flavors they offered and she had to name them off one by one and began struggling a bit to remember them all, so it was awkward, time consuming and harder for me to remember everything she was naming this way and just made it harder to decide which ones I wanted to go with... I ended up just randomly picking the first three I remembered her naming. Lol Good picks though ! So all the cupcakes were moist, creamy/velvety and delicious! The frostings were not overly sweet and I thought they were the perfect size too. My only complaint was that the toppings on the strawberry and lemon ones were candy, not a fan of candy and it kinda made them look like they were for kids and they were not. ( Noticed from others pic's that the lemon cupcakes usually have a raspberry on top...) Anyways, excellent prices, great service and delicious cupcakes! Would definitely try them again!
