I can't believe Putorti's hasn't been reviewed yet! This place truly is an institution and (at risk of sounding condescending) an oasis in a town that's seen much better days. We're talking about a place that can't support a McDonald's, a Dunkin Donuts, or a grocery store. It even lost one of its pizza places recently, as well as an Italian restaurant that had been around for decades.
But I digress. Putorti's isn't just a convenience store: it's got a great beer selection, ice cream in the summer, a deli with cold cuts by the pound or for subs/sandwiches to go, a selection of dry goods like bread & junk food, and now...Pizza!
The prices of the pizza are quite reasonable. A large (16") with a couple of toppings will easily feed 4-6 people. 1 slice with sweet sausage, mushrooms, and black olives filled me up. Same for my mom. They pile on the cheese, but I would've liked to actually taste the sweet sausage, it was a bit lacking. You can get hot sausage if you prefer. At $1 for most toppings, you get what you pay for I guess.
We also gave their "cheesy garlic breadsticks" a try. I'd recommend if you're in the mood, but it's really more of a thinner crust cheese pizza with a more garlicky flavor. I wish it had more garlic! Honestly I'd prefer traditional garlic bread or knots. Perhaps they should try making garlic knots as it would make use of the same pizza dough.
Speaking of dough...they make the crust a bit thick and frankly, it doesn't have a lot of flavor. If I were harsh, I'd say it was reminiscent of cardboard. No big deal, not eating it saves calories.
Give Putorti's a try if you're in the area and want pizza, subs, a sandwich, or anything else for that matter. Whitehall has been lucky to have them for a long time, and judging by how busy it was in there, I don't think they're going anywhere. Let's hope not. read more
