Cate appears to be quietly assembling a Bolton Landing dining empire. First came Cate's Italian…read moreGarden, followed by Cate's Famous Cafe. Now, apparently realizing that visitors strolling along Lake Shore Drive cannot be trusted to finish dinner without immediately wanting ice cream, we have Cate's Creamery. The Creamery took over the former Ben & Jerry's spot right on the main drag, which is prime real estate for anyone looking to capture the summer crowd. It is a sharp, convenient setup. The ice cream served here comes from Perry's, a classic Upstate New York staple. It is a solid, completely respectable regional brand. Perry's makes good commercial ice cream that does its job without pretense. It will not cause you to re-evaluate your life or forget every artisanal batch you have ever tasted, but it satisfies a craving reliably well. One quick operational note for families: there is no soft serve here. That detail will be of critical importance to certain family members who view soft-serve availability as a non-negotiable right. This is strictly hard-scooped territory. What the counter lacks in soft serve, it makes up for in variety and toppings. Our son selected Cookie Monster, a bright blue concoction that seems engineered specifically to make a kid happy. They also handle the classics, along with sundaes that turn a basic scoop into a multi-napkin project. The service was fast and friendly. When a family collectively decides that ice cream has become an immediate emergency, nobody wants a long wait or a complicated ordering system. You order, get your cup or cone, and step outside. The best feature of the property is the outdoor seating area. The porch and courtyard offer a great spot to sit with your scoop, watch the foot traffic along Lake Shore Drive, and embrace the fact that eating dessert in the afternoon sun is your only assignment for the hour. The rating lands at four stars because of the ice cream itself. Perry's is fine, but the venue is really about the complete package: fun flavors, quick service, a prime location, and a relaxing place to sit outside. Cate has already mastered red sauce Italian food, a quick serve pizza and cafe place, and an ice cream counter. At this trajectory, I assume the next expansion will be Cate's Department of Pancakes and Waffles. If so, I will probably end up in line there too.

This was my first time visiting Lake George, and Boyfriend had been talking about this restaurant for years, every time we brought up coming here one day. Was a bit worried seeing many other reviews mentioning this place was dirty, but although everything looked super old, it was clean. Some stuff is "good old" - like the decor, cool light fixtures, jukebox etc; other old things such as the AC units and outdated bathrooms, should be upgraded. Pizza was fine! Boyfriend had a pepperoni slice and raved about it... I'm just glad he was so happy :) I had a plain cheese pizza slice, it was fine - very good thin crust but not enough cheese for my taste. At $14 for two slices and two sprites this was the cheapest meal out we've had in a very long time too, lol.

Capri's is very generous with their toppings and their sauce is perfection. If you like authentic Italian pizza, you will love Capri's!

Hidden in the back of the Pine Cone Mercantile store, a business that shares both the address and…read morethe phone number, is a scratch bakery that specializes in artisanal breads. The loaves usually sell quickly, so it's best to show up early. My sister clued us in on the place and as we walked by shortly before they were closing at 4 pm on a Saturday in August, there was a tent sign outside showing a variety of breads crossed off and two remaining. Sure enough, there were not only just two flavors left in the display case, there were only two loaves. We purchased the sourdough with cherries and pecans. As we were paying for our purchase another customer came in and bought that last loaf. When we got back to my sister's house we sliced the bread to try it. It was absolutely delicious! I also understand that scones and croissants are made on the premises by the owners. My sister actually reserved some for pickup the following day. (Unfortunately, we will have left for home by then.) I did also spy a case with a variety of cheeses - next time. It's my understanding that this is a husband and wife operation. The husband makes the breads and the wife makes the scones and croissants. The wife is also responsible for the operation of the home furnishing store (Pine Cone Mercantile) that you will walk through to get to the bakery. Go ahead, just try to not be tempted to buy something in that store also as you pass through. Their Facebook page says they are open 10 am - 5 pm Thursday - Monday. However, they were closing at 4 pm the Saturday that we stopped in. I suggest calling them before going.
