A group of us came on a weekend night and I wasn't that impressed. They serve Neapolitan pizza, and have indoor and outdoor seating. I got the arancini with sausage and chorizo pizza. I also tried a slice of the mushroom and diavola. The arancini was good. The pizzas were ok, toppings were good, however not a fan of the doughy-ness as toppings just fall off. Each pizza is good for one person and slightly pricey for the size. Service was not good. Food pacing was strange: one pizza came first and my friend was 3/4 done with her pizza before everyone else received their pizzas. They also forgot a main pasta dish for one person, but we were unable to follow up on it because no one checked on us after we received our food. We had to call a worker down to receive our check and then they asked if we wanted a refill on our waters when paying for the check. read more

The original location of Pupatella continues to impress me, even for take out. First off, the cheese has to be one of the better qualities out there as you can taste the depth of it. We tried the meatballs this time, which were also surprisingly good. They were not dry and you could tell that the meat was of high quality as well. Lastly, the garlic and mozzarella bread was quite divine. It featured a full serving of mozzarella on each side and it balanced out nicely with the crispy bread. 5/5 for Pupatella! read more

We usually go to the Pupatella in South Arlington on Walter Reed Drive. Great pizza and friendly service every time. But I was passing by the one on Wilson so...Terrible service. Waited 15 minutes for a coke, but no sign of the pizza. Arrived after my complaint... lukewarm. Took it home to heat up. Having frequented other Pupatella locations, I was really excited to bring my family here for the first their first Pupatella experience. We stopped by around 5pm on a Sunday night and we ordered the cantaloupe with prosciutto, and 4 different pizzas. Our cantaloupe and prosciutto was an appetizer that we were very much looking forward to and it never came out. We sat and waited for 50 minutes as other tables who came in after us received their food. After 50 minutes, we finally asked the server where our food was and they informed us that the ticket with our order on it never printed. We ended up waiting another 10 minutes and ordered our pizzas to go since we had children with us and they were beginning to get fussy. While I understand that it was a busy night, I'm extremely disappointed that the waiter never bothered even checking in on us or our ticket--especially considering we were there for almost an hour with no food on our table. One top of this, they didn't bother trying to make it up to us in any way. No discount, no appetizer on the house, nothing to amend the issue. And getting Neopolitan pizza to go is never as good as getting it in house. My family, who is new to the area, was also disappointed in having to eat cold pizza at the house. Pupatella was our best discovery this quarantine! This is top quality napolitana pizza at a fair price! My go to is the Margharita DOC, it just never disappoints! If you're looking for something to drink, give their Limoncello spritz a try! If you have room for dessert, I have recently been obsessed with their panna cotta. Service is great, all servers are very friendly. I do miss when we were able to order at the register and the order would be brought to your table instead of having full table service, but this will always be one of my favorite pizza joints in the DMV area. read more

When I arrived at the restaurant I noticed it was empty so I asked if they just happened to be busy with pick up/ delivery orders. No, not really -"the pizza takes longer to bake." But then I've seen much less times from reviews & always thought wood fired ovens have lower bake times. Must have been high number of pickup/delivery orders? Saw they had Gelato and still had a few minutes before the Pies were ready so...got Coffee and Salted Caramel. The kind lady mentioned Gelato is the healthier version of Ice Cream. I didn't argue and did notice the flavors were stronger than the sugar so okay I'm sold. Very good Gelato and hit the spot! Good to see (written on the box and on website) they are internationally certified authentic Neapolitan pizza. We ordered a Red and a White Pizza. First, what stood out was the wood fired oven crust. On the thinner side but soft with slightly crunchy edges and had the perfect balance with toppings/sauce. So good that you eat the ends. The Diavolo (Red) had a kick given the Spicy Salami and was enjoyed. That said, the Buffala Bianca was our favorite. The Italian Cream and Buffalo Mozzarella combo was amazing! Prosciutto takes it over the top! They have a few (22) combo pizza options if you don't want to have a custom one. Service (outside of the extended prep time for our order during non-peak) was friendly and upbeat. The AVPN certified section clearly spells out the rules Pupatella had to meet. From the moment we walked in the door, the lady behind the hostess said dine in or take out without a greeting or smile. We opted for dine in and she grabbed 2 menus and proceeded to walk to a table. She didn't say please follow me or suggest we should follow her. She slaps the menus down on top a the plates and walks away. Since the restaurant was pretty empty we asked the hostess (not the lady) if we could move to a booth. He was very friendly and smiled. Meanwhile the lady sat in the rear of the restaurant with an unpleasant look on her face. ARANCINI WITH SAUSAGE - 6.75 There's two of them, which is perfect to share if you're going with one other person! This was pretty tasty, but don't remember too much about this besides the fact it had risotto. I don't think the proportions of the mozzarella, peas, and sausages were well distributed so mine only had risotto and mozzarella. Possibly a few pieces of sausage? Definitely did not have peas. PANZAROTTI - 6.75 This also come in pairs, but wow, this was VERY TASTY! I loved the ham in this and the mozzarella was so fresh and stringy. It was so light and delicious mixed with the potato croquettes. I would highly recommend giving this street snack option a try. This was probably my favorite thing we ordered tonight. MARGHERITA DOC - 15.50 Seemingly one of their most popular options and my friend had complained about this pizza being more burnt than he would like when he ordered this a few weeks ago. Naturally, he wanted to try it again to see if it would be better. Sadly, they must have overheard his complaint because the pizza came out a bit undercooked. The mozzarella slid off the dough as easily as some kid on a slide. Overall, our pizza was pretty droopy and soggy. The basil leaves were not well distributed and the bland sauce made it even more underwhelming. Besides that, I did appreciate the freshness of the mozzarella - it's also buffalo mozz?? Wow. The pizza crust was chewy and flavorful - usually they're hit or miss, but I definitely would not leave the Pupatella ones uneaten. Again, high quality ingredients but seems like Pupatella is a hit or miss in terms of effort. Not the most impressed with my first Pupatella experience and I'd question the quality and taste of other NoVa pizzerias if this was considered "the best pizza in NoVa". I'd definitely give Pupatella another try, but maybe a different pizza and will go at an hour that isn't near closing time. read more

There were things I liked but I definitely didn't love this place - which is sad since I've been here before and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is causal and service was good. They have wonderful, authentic, Neapolitan pizza, founded by a native of Naples (where my Pop is from). They are internationally certified authentic & have been awarded the Verace Pizza Association certification, the definition of true neapolitan pizza. We typically get a variety of pizzas but they offer small plates, salads, a couple pastas, friggitoria (fried foods), paninis & pizza. I was really excited to come here for the pizza after reading all the reviews. But all the hype didn't live up for me. I know my pizza's, and dough is the most important part. We tried this today for lunch and I have mixed feelings. It is a Neapolitan pizza which is not my favorite so I will start with that preface. We ordered the cheese/garlic bread and it was very flavorful but the bread could have used toasted a little more and had a ton of cheese, more cheese than bread which I am not sure I liked but the taste was very good, lots of garlic. We had pepperoni pizza which had good flavor but very oily as you get often with pepperoni. We had a side salad which was not my favorite either as I like a mix of lettuce versus just arugula. So, for me this was a three but I think others may give it a five, all depends on your tastes. read more

All around stars for the meal and service! Dine-in was available for outdoor patio only. There's enough seating for a 6 or 7 groups in total. The takeout was still busy and there are people standing around in the storefront. If you want to dine-in, go around the building to the backyard patio area. The patio area is so colorful and well shaded. The Margherita DOC ($13.50) was delicious. It's a small size pizza and is good for one hungry adult. Their brussels sprouts ($7) was shareable for 2 adults and was so delicious. You'll want to get this add-on to your meal. read more

They do have a monitor on the wall you can see the pizza being made fresh and baked... however I don't think most customer ever pay attention to that. Well with that said the anchovy pizza was definitely saltier than I had hoped. All in all nothing impressive. For the caprese salad was okay...... the bread that came with it was not toasted or heated so it' was like eating cold bread which was not a great experience for sure. Pupatella is EXCELLENT. This pizzeria really understands and respects the ingredients and the pizza making process. We ate the pepperoni and a capricciosa pies. The crust was properly charred and the undercarriage was as well giving the pies we got a really wonderful flavor. the sauce is sweet and the cheese is deliscious. The capricciosa was flavorful and the toppings provided lots of flavor in every bite. The pepperoni pie is one for purists. The only area for improvement is logistical, and not food related. The restaurant needs to start serving the pie's on flat surfaces as the plates we used were curved and the center of the pepperoni pie got saucey. Pupatella's is excellent. After Pepe's, this is a close second to the best pizza in the DMV. CONGRATS to Pupatella as that has you entering rare air. We will be making the drive soon from MD to try some of the white pizzas.
