I came again and was pleasantly surprised with the dishes! I got the classic Mediterranean pizza, the chicken avocado bacon salad, the spicy sausage pasta, and fried zucchini. Everything tasted more refreshing/flavourful than the last time I came, so glad I gave this spot another shot. It was much less crowded this time around and service was pretty attentive. I stopped into Pie-tanza for dinner. The restaurant was pretty empty. I had a hard time deciding what to order so I just opted for one of the wood fire pizzas and ordered the spaghetti and meatballs to go. The pizza did not take long to come out at all. The pizza was good. I would have preferred a little more sweeter sauce where this sauce is more tangy. The pepperoni is more of the deli style then the pepperoni cups. The spaghetti and meatballs did not have a ton of sauce. The meatballs were a decent size and where flavorful. If I was in the area again, I would check it out. read more

You be the judge! Some 7 months age I was charged $.75 for a fruit cup that I thought should have been included with my lunch meal. I never saw it on the menu as an extra charge. The manager took offense when I questioned it and refused to remove the charge. His attitude led me to write a negative-leaning review, not for the food but for his approach to dealing with customers. Today our same group of some dozen friends gathered at this restaurant for lunch, the first time I'd been back since the event noted above. As I waited with another early-arriving member of our group, the manager looked at me and asked if I was the one who wrote a negative Yelp report about meatballs. I said no, which somehow triggered his memory to recollect the fruit cup matter. He said I was wrong then and I was not welcome in his restaurant for having written a "negative" review; I would characterize it as a truthful Yelp review. He then instructed me to leave, "...or I'll call the police to remove you for trespassing." The woman with me and I at first thought he was joking, given I had neither said nor did anything to provoke his surprisingly angry attitude. I invited him to call Arlington law enforcement, though as a lawyer I suppose he has a right to remove anyone for any reason. Were this for racial or religious reasons he could be sued, but it was not. He then disappeared, presumably to call the police. Meanwhile, others of our group were arriving so we two went outside to advise the others as they gathered of the attitude of the manager. When all 10 had arrived, our club president and 3 others (not me) went in the restaurant to see if this matter could be resolved and we could remain for lunch. They came out a few minutes later quite annoyed at the manager for having referred to me as "extremely obnoxious" and reporting that he didn't want our business. When offered the choice of all of us or none of us he made his decision plain. We went to Perer Chang's a few doors away and had delightful meals. So would you go back to Pie Tanza (even if the manager would allow you in!!!)? The manager said he has been there 21 years. In my view he should consider another line of work, for his own mental health and for the sake of the underlying business. After all, his decision today cost him bi-monthly patronage of some 10-15 people over the long term. You be the judge of his business acumen. Oh, and most everyone thought the meals at Peter Chang's were preferable to Pie-Tanza. read more

Pretty average as far as pizza goes. The sausage seemed a bit bland to me, pie ingredients chaos garnished (meat all on one side). Crust slightly too thin and crispy for my liking. It tasted okay, but nothing to scream home about. Portion is perfect for one person, provided that is your only order. The cheese appetizers are good, I mean how can you go wrong with deep fried cheese? The goat cheese balls do come on an insane bed of lettuce though, so it could in and of itself be an entree. The side (app) salads are huge and would probably work as a whole meal. Delicious, but I can't imagine how big the full size one is! Nice ambiance. Fair amount of kids and crowded on a weeknight. The worst service I have ever experienced in Arlington or anywhere for that matter. The food is mediocre mall food court quality.

Good family-friendly restaurant with wood-fired NY style pizza, but NOT Neapolitan. The ginormous charred pizza pies have a nice crunchy crust. The creamy White Sauce pizza with onion and thyme was more flavorful than the Cheese pizza. The pizza shake with oregano and fontina cheese overpowered the Cheese pizza. The cheese congealed pretty quickly and the pizza became tepid after 5 minutes. It was a bit disappointing to be served a can of Lambrusco instead of from a fresh bottle in a glass. There was a large assortment of flavored sangria and non-alcoholic bubbly sodas. The service was great and very accommodating towards my rambunctious family with a toddler and a baby throwing food from a high chair (we left a generous tip!). If you enjoy NY style pizza, you'll enjoy Pie-tanza. It was nice to support the small family business, but I prefer Neapolitan pizza at Modo Mia right across the street from the shopping plaza. read more

Great customer service, which is why I am giving 3 stars, the food would be 2. When you are making Italian food, the details matter. I ordered the chicken parm, and it was a huge serving, but bigger isn't always better. The chicken breasts were too thick, under-seasoned, dry and the breading was mushy. The spaghetti on the side was overcooked and lacked salt (two VERY simple details that every Italian restaurant should get right- season the water properly and cook the pasta in the proper amount of time). The sauce was canned tomatoes, which would be okay if they were good canned tomatoes. The stewed tomato pieces were off putting. Focus on cooking technique or higher quality ingredients and maybe less quantity. I have eaten here before and liked it, but have no desire to return after this latest trip. It's a shame, we kind of dig the ambiance and location, but the food needs some attention to detail. read more

A friend recommended this place to me and I'm glad she did. First off...the food. I'm a fan of thin crust pizza and the pizza I ordered had a nice charred crispy to it and the rich tomato sauce was pleasant. I'm also a sucker for apples and cinnamon, so I decided to try their warm apple caramel pie, which was served a la mode with vanilla bean ice cream. Was a little disappointed by this dessert because I thought it was rather bland. Nevertheless, it wasn't the terrible, so I ate most of it. Secondly, the service was attentive and not overbearing. My server was friendly and greeted me right away when she noticed me standing by the host stand without a host/hostess in sight. Last but not least, the ambiance was cozy, casual, and comfortable. I visited Pie-tanza today for the first time with family. I arrived about noon and the restaurant was packed. Since reservations aren't taken, I put my name on a list. She said it would be about 20 min. Twenty minutes passed and we were told it would be 20 min for our table of 5. The hostess announced outside that our table was being cleaned. There is a daily lunch special 10" Wood-Fired 2 topping Pizza & Fountain Drink or Iced Tea for $11.99. We all chose the special and I chose the Primo Pepperoni lunch special which was $4 more. Everyone one appeared pleased with the pizzas. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The wait staff was very young and inexperienced. Our waiter began by shadowing another waitress, but then completely took our table responsibilities. I had to request a drink refill. The pizza had a crust that was extra crispy and was loaded with toppings. The calzones were stuffed full of cheese and included marinara on the side for dipping.
