We happen to stumble upon this location. We have been to the Alexandria location quite a few times and I will say I think I enjoyed this location most mainly because its more spacious. I will also add it was clean as well. We went here for pi day and the pizza pie did not disappoint. I ate all that goodness in one sitting. That's how good that pizza was. I truly felt like fat bastard and told that margarita pizza get in my belly. Everything was cooked to perfection. The freshly squeezed lemonade was really good but I dont think they offer free refills because we never got one and I wish they did because it was so delicious. Our server was very polite and greeted us with a glass of water which is always appreciated. The food didnt take long to arrive at our table. I have to add these pizza are pretty pricey. This is a treat yourself pizza pie not a everyday day pizza pie. But, if you got it like that by all means go weekly. You will not be disappointed. If not go monthly. We came back after having visited the first year they opened. I read up on the menu to ensure it's just Italian 00 flour and nothing else, plus they have real buffalo mozzarella - both are much easier to digest for folks with gluten and dairy intolerances. Our server Paul was AMAZING- so patient and descriptive with the options, helped me pick a drink, and really elevated a fast casual experience. A fun local DVM chain that has a bunch of options but my favorite is the pesto pizza! A great casual spot to pick up Neapolitan style pizza. I used DoorDash to deliver pizza this evening and was disappointed because the pizza was barely warm. Not to any fall of the restaurant, but if somebody is using a green bike that the city provides, they should not be delivering things that are 30 minutes away. My drink also arrived melted so I had a water down Sprite as well. I did use the air fryer to heat up the pizza. I may have to actually visit the location to see how the pizza actually is at the restaurant. Good solid Neapolitan pizza and tastes great. Got the Caivano pizza with all the toppings. Perfect charred crust and balanced tomato sauce. My only thing was the pizza was on the greasy side, would perhaps get another flavor, or adding banana peppers for myself next time. However partner thought the flavor was good, so everyone seems to have a preference. Since this was a to-go order, could not say much about the ambiance/atmosphere. Quick and easy service - went in for lunch on Sunday and the place was pretty empty. Loved that the bruschetta did not have balsamic, which is authentic, but the bread was not toasted or warm at all so it kind of fell apart. We visited the Fairfax location last weekend and had a very disappointing experience. We were seated outside and waited for quite a while before anyone acknowledged us. Eventually, a waitress took our drink and pizza orders, but after about 25 minutes she returned and asked to take our order again. We remained patient, but then waited another 20 minutes just for our drinks. When my lemonade arrived, it had ice despite my request for no ice. When I pointed this out, she took it back, poured out some of the drink, and returned it watered down. I declined it, as it was no longer the same drink, but she simply walked away without addressing the issue. We ended up waiting around 45 minutes for our food. When it was time to pay, the lemonade was still included on the bill. I paid it, but the lack of service, attention, and even a simple apology was very disappointing. If I'm ever craving pizza I always come here. Pupatella is a great staple for me because of their consistently high quality pizzas. It's a certified Neapolitan pizza chain and I can definitely tell the difference. Because of that, it tends to be more pricy and smaller than delivery but what you get is way more worth it in my opinion. I usually always get the prosciutto and arugula one. I love how in every Pupatella you can see them as they make your pizza and put it in the oven. This location is the original and still my favorite one that I've been to. We got this pizza on Grub Hub. It was really greasy, floppy, and just bad. It's a medium thick crust but it was so soggy with oil that it couldn't hold the disgustingly huge amount of sauce, cheese and toppings. Soooo much cheap terrible pepperoni. Finally tried the famous Pupatella. I was so excited about trying the pizza that I had already scarfed down half of the pizza after realizing I didn't get a picture. I ordered online on a Friday around 6:30. Order took about 40 minutes. They were extremely busy and they keep a great flow of people. It was very lively inside. The pizza was great. I got the Caivano. The char was perfect. The crust wasn't extremely thin, which I like. This pizza came with tons of meat! No skimping. I will say that my pizza wasn't exactly saucy or super cheesy. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to see what all the buzz is about. The small parking lot in front of the restaurant was packed but I saw a sign about additional parking behind the 7-11 (it's actually next to 7-11, so don't get confused. There's a neighborhood behind 7-11) so I parked on the street there. It was a 2 hour max, no meter. I entered the restaurant and asked if they sold pizza by the slice. They do not. One of the staff saw my disappointment and offered that they have small pizzas available, about 12". That was ok, so I ordered a pepperoni pizza. Total with taxes was $17. I sat down to wait and it was ready within about 5 minutes. I ordered to go. I ate the pizza when I got home without warming it, but it was still good. A small/medium pizza has 4 very large slices; I folded them to eat them. The crust was nice and soft, though quite burned in some spots. We decided to try Pupatella for a date night after seeing that had such positive reviews for best pizza in Northern Virginia. We were very surprised with how authentic the flavors were fresh the pizzas were. The vibe and ambience of the restaurant is more of an authentic Italian experience and it is casual, but still appropriate for small groups and date night. We were able to get seated pretty quickly after arriving at 7:30 PM on a Thursday night without a prior reservation. For food, the fried mozzarella balls were definitely a highlight and made fresh. We ordered a custom pizza with spicy salami, as well as a pepperoni pizza. Both had really fresh flavors and were true to the Naples style pizza you can find in Italy. We LOVE Pupatella DC. Today was probably our 12th visit in the last 6 months, and today we needed a good break from the current weather. Our visit today Feb 7, 2026, was not good. Our pizza was luke warm to cold, and the beer was warm not cold. The entire experience was really poor. We will be back but we will wait for the Spring and hope they can get back to the Pupatella quality that we have come to expect. read more

I'm updating my review to praise Pupatella's outdoor dining space! Don't be fooled by the humble exterior. There is a quite expansive back patio that is absolutely lovely. This is a great spot to hang out with friends or bring your family. There is also a parking lot off the back of the outdoor seating area, which is great since the parking in front is very limited. The back patio has a lot of shaded options, including many tables with umbrellas. The food is as good as ever. These are thin pizzas, so don't go overboard on the toppings, lest your pizza be a soggy mess. I usually stick to something simple. Lots of good appetizers, especially the arancini. There is also a fairly expansive beer and wine menu. Service is friendly and fast. Pupatella has a cozy, local atmosphere that is nice but unpretentious. I will definitely be back. read more

Am I wrong to expect cheese is part of the pizza when ordering a custom pizza? I mean, even Papa John's starts you off with a cheese pizza and you can add extra toppings. So I ordered a custom pizza with pepperoni, garlic and cherry tomatoes. I didn't add the optional cheese selection because, you know, I thought it already came with cheese. Just updating to say it is still fantastic! All the food has been great, but I love the Diavola pizza so much, I often get the same thing (the spicy salami is the best I've had). Kids love the kids pizza, and we all love the Nutella and apple dessert pizza. The apps are also fantastic. Also, the last couple times we've been there they were running a promotion to give a percentage of profits to local schools or charities. Great of this place (that doesn't need to drum up extra business) to help out and really be a part of the community.
