I loved that it's clear locals come as they have coffee cups ready for them on the walls in shelves. Do not skip on the cinnamon roll. I repeat do not skip on the cinnamon roll. That was one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had. For my entree, I got the lunch/dinner chicken fried steak, potatoes and vegetables. The steak was well cooked, seasoned and crispy. The gravy was luscious and abundant. The mashed potatoes needed a bit more seasoning and the corn felt very basic. Service was super friendly and attentive especially keeping the coffee flowing. Best diner around! Countless visits, never disappointed. Food is fantastic, Supreme Hobo Breakfast with home fries instead of hashbrowns topped with New Mexican green chili and a side biscuit is usually my order but they have pretty good huevos rancheros that I'll get every so often. Along with their homemade OJ, cannot be beat. The servers are real people, meaning the are honest and spunky as you would imagine at a traditional diner. And the diner itself is right next to the train station and is so cute and homey with the train station theme. As many times as I've been here, I'm surprised I don't have a singular picture, but I think it's because I'm just so ready to dig in everytime. Jaycee M was our server, and was absolutely terrible. She basically took our orders threw our food down and then gave us our checks 2 min after getting our food- then on top of that shoves the kiosk in our faces while I'm knee deep in my bacon. I love pufferbelly but Jaycee was so terrible I have to write a review about it. Food was great as usual but you need to either fire Jaycee and send her to McDonalds or give her some training cuz she butt fucked sucked. Three very different experiences here now in the last 8 months. First 2: phenomenal. Must order the cinnamon roll. I don't even like cinnamon rolls (or anything sweet for breakfast for that matter) and it is DIVINE. I even went on a tour de GJT last summer during my first visit and tried different ones at different breakfast places per recommendation by my friend who is a local, and Pufferbelly wins hands down. However... Don't come on the weekends. My most recent visit was during a weekend, and it left a lot to be desired. The cinnamon roll wasn't warm. Almost was as if it had been sitting out for a while. All previous visits were hot, fresh out of the oven. So as long as you go and order it on a week day, you'll be happy! I've had a couple of items on the breakfast menu at this point and it's all been wonderful. I did particularly enjoy the breakfast burrito with green chili on top. I recommend this for sure. Easily shareable too! Hash browns are normally great. Lots of good flavor with the right amount of crispy on the top. Service is also usually great on week days. Most of the staff have great personalities and are very quick with service and drink refills. Our weekend experience was totally opposite as far as personality went. It took a long time to order our food and when we did, we definitely felt like we were an inconvenience to the server. Also, she was super aggressive with the coffee and tea refills. Normally not one to complain about attentiveness to refills but it was overly so. Aggressive. Pouring hot coffee unprompted / unsolicited into a cup that someone who was in mid-conversation was holding. Anyway, I do recommend this place. Just don't come on the weekends. read more

Came here for brunch during CMU's parent weekend and had a wonderful experience. Don't let the neighborhood deter you as the food and service are worth it. It is located near the old railroad station, hence the name\theme. Getting to the parking lot is a bit of a challenge given its location and construction going on. It has a good variety of breakfast\lunch options and I went with brunch and had breakfast burrito that was outstanding. My son went with skillet that was huge and filling. My order gave me the option of toast, pancake or cinnamon roll and I went with the roll not knowing they are made fresh there and had to wait a little bit for the next batch to finish. It was massive and the best roll I have ever had. I couldn't even come close to finishing it and took to go. Service was great even though there were fairly busy. The price was super fair given the amount of food provided. I will be going back on the next trip to Grand Junction! read more

It might not be the prettiest or nicest restaurant or an instagram worthy place to eat, but Pufferbelly has been feeding the Western Slope for years and providing residents and visitors alike with comfort food. If you're looking for huge portions, pleasant servers and want to chat the regulars who eat here daily, then this is the place. I had Pufferbelly for the first time in 1996 and return each time I visit family in GJ. The only thing I ever want is their biscuit with butter and homemade jam and a cinnamon roll to split with the table, so that's exactly what I ordered along with a scrambled egg on the side. The biscuit is the size of my hand, it's buttery with a touch of salt, pillowy but has that nice crust on the bottom that we all love. Smother it with butter and jam and it's a meal in of itself. My sister ordered the chicken fried steak skillet which was loaded with breakfast potatoes, cheese, onions, peppers, mushrooms, bite sized pieces of crispy chicken fried steak and then topped woth gravy. It's every bit as hearty as it sounds, does not disappoint and will fill you up. read more

I love the Pufferbelly! Driven by this place a few times and always wanted to come in here. Finally did and I am not disappointed! It's nothing much to look at and it's not in the best part of town, there's a couple of dilapidated buildings around and well, it's next to a train station... nowadays you know what that means. But all of these things just king of add to the charm. A couple of trains came and went as I ate shaking the whole restaurant, which was fun! Anyway, when you walk in you immediately know what you're getting into. This isn't a place you order a salad. You get a coffee, and you're gonna get a chicken fried steak. Which is exactly what I did! I told my waitress Rhonda (who was lovely by the way) it was the first time I had been here and that apparently entitled me to a free sweet roll which was as big as my head!! It was also very moist and tasty. The chicken fried steak was very good, the crust still slightly crispy on the outside even underneath the gravy it's obvious they hand make this it's not preformed. Said gravy could do with a good shot of black pepper, but I can understand that may make it unpalatable to some. Either way, not bad and I remedied it with a few shakes of the pepper shaker. The eggs were cooked well and not overdone, the hash browns left a lot to be desired and I'd probably say to avoid them unless you're really in the mood. Mine needed a lot of salt and were a little under browned. I had toast, sourdough to accompany the meal and it was good, nice and heavily buttered and delicious. Overall the food was pretty solid, and most of it was definitely handmade even the jelly. I'll definitely be back! read more

Come hungry! Located right next to the Amtrak station...the restaurant is named appropriately as the train engines were puffing along as we arrived. After a short wait on Sunday morning (the wait gets longer later in the morning) we were seated. You need to order the cinnamon roll and just ask for a box, you won't finish it, but you'll love it again later at home.
