The first time I went was wonderful and the Spanish waitress was charming. Chicken fried steak was delicious as well as the option to have green chile instead of toast. This morning though was disappointing and ended up with a mouthful of nasty beef fat in my Mexican breakfast. Also decided to try their coffee and it was weak AF. Asked for a stronger cup and after waiting 20 minutes the waitress finally brought it, but it tasted like instant Folgers. Thankfully she comped my meal and I went outside to smoke. Then she came running out like I was going to dine and dash, accusing me and said she called her boss. It is a clean restaurant with pleasant staff and the BEST green chile I've had in several years. I got the crispy chile relleno with eggs, refried beans, hash browns, and flour tortillas. Wow! We have been going to Mary's for breakfast for years. The food is very good with my favorite being the tamale and eggs, and the corned beef hash and eggs. But, sadly, today will be the last day we will be coming here because I've had it with the attitude from a server named Maritza. Maritza used to be friendly but over the years, has started to have an attitude with us. She clearly has her favorites, based on the way she greets customers. I really don't understand her behavior towards us because I have always tipped her well and we have never been problem customers. Several visits ago, she spilled water on the table. She took her time coming back to us and when she came back with extra napkins, she just tossed them on the table. I was incredulous! Did she expect ME to clean up her spill? So I didn't do it, but it drove me crazy with a mini lake on our table, so *I* ended up cleaning her spill. Coming in to eat here was like playing Russian roulette...are we gonna get a good server? Or are we gonna get Maritza with an extra side of attitude? Today, we were greeted with a grimace, while the other customers got a smile and a happy exclamation. She was not happy to be serving us, nor were we happy to have her wait on us. (We don't have any problems with any other server there. Everyone else is friendly.) She tossed the straws at us. When we got our breakfast, it was so good that I thought, "Ok, so it's one server...we can handle it for good food." Then, she tossed the check at us and that's when we made up our minds to never come back. She should get a job at one of those restaurants that specialize in treating customers badly. This happens all of the time and today was the last time we're going there. You can't even enjoy your meal. Two different servers contstantly stop and talk while we're trying to eat. Like I even care about their personal lives. I told my friend just don't make eye contact but they stop to chat anyway. Last straw, a guy was walking around with a coffee pot and we didn't even have coffee. He asked how our meal was and I had just taken a bite of my food and gave him a thumbs up. He stayed there until I was finished chewing. Next time, it is going to be take out. So rude. read more

Hole 'N' the Wall niceness. The restaurant itself is comfortable. They practice safe distance, masks and condiments are individual. This is the only restaurant I feel comfortable going into to eat. They got a new cook and though I wasn't sure about ordering the patty melt I did. It came out perfect. The bread crisp as a patty melt should be. The onions well grilled too, making it a patty of flavor. The servers are sweet and friendly as ever. I highly recommend if your looking for a little flavor and comfort. read more

One of my favorite little holes in the wall. Delicious authentic food, great drinks (alcoholic and sans alcohol) easy going atmosphere, with large screen TVs to watch the Sunday football game! I love home cooking!! I ordered the biscuits and gravy and it was like my homemade! Try the huevos rancheros for another breakfast treat! The refried beans are definitely homemade. I had the chicken fried steak, ordered the 4 ounce and was served a humongous (at least 8 ounce) steak with great white gravy. Eggs are always served the way we ordered. OK - I have only been here once, so this is a temporary review. I did want to post something just so people know this is a good place to go. We went at lunch, but did also look at the dinner menu. I think the dinner menu might offer a better value, but I was happy with my lunch! So - all the good news first. Mary's has arguably the best French Fries in town (my second choice is Bin 707 - but they are a completely different type of fries). Mary's fries are clearly hand cut. They were freshly fried for us and had that beautiful brown and tan coloring of a fresh potato (not one that has been sitting around for hours in water). They tasted of potato, not just of a starch tuber. Honestly, I closed my eyes and revisited my teen years when a bunch of us would sit at a diner nursing our fountain Cokes and sharing a huge plate of fries. Heaven. Service was friendly and assiduous, without being cloying. Our server kept tabs on us and our food - and other servers would stop by to top of drinks and make sure there was nothing else wanted. My husband had the green chile strip burger with swiss cheese. Looked like the bigger part of a freshly roasted (not canned or frozen) poblano pepper under a slightly overcooked burger patty. The cooking was his error - he should have ordered it medium. So no dings for that. The burger was very good - but the star of his plate was those fries!! I had a senior meatloaf (homemade) meal with mashed potatoes and gravy. The meatloaf was very good (not as good as my mother-in-laws meatloaf, but definitely homemade and tender). The potatoes were very good - with just enough roughness to the mash that you knew these were made from real potatoes, not flakes. I will quibble with the gravy. For a restaurant that prides itself on Homestyle Cooking - I think the cornstarch thickened sauce (which always seems like a Chinese place) was a misstep. I wanted a good brown gravy and felt let down. I had a cup of the soup of the day - cream of broccoli. Excellent. Again - clearly homemade with nice chunks of broccoli. I love soups and will definitely be having whatever the soup of the day is!! The restaurant is somewhat basic looking inside, with some attempts at decor on the walls. To me - that is fine. I am there for the food and secondarily the service. Both of those worked for me. There is a dessert carousel near the hostess stand. It is very enticing with cooked-that-morning pies and cakes (per our server). Didn't try them - my lunch filled me up. The dinner menu shows many more choices - for not much more money. Seafood, steaks, etc where lunch is pretty firmly sandwiches and a few salads. So - I will be back to try dinner. PS -- Friday is all you can eat fish and there are Saturday and Sunday specials too! read more

We have had many meals here before so today I decided to try the CFS for the first time, OMG it was horrible! Nasty lumpy Elmers glue looking gravy over a weird tasting piece of meat with funky breading. I ate about 6 pieces of it and left the rest, I dreaded putting it in my mouth and tasting it that much.We like the place and will go back for meals I have had before but the chicken fried steak is awful! While the side salad was nothing to write home about, our meals were incredible! I had a spinach, sausage, cheddar, mushroom omelette that had to be one of the best I've ever eaten, next to Mom's. Absolutely loaded adn made with fresh eggs. Yum! My husband's sirloin steak and eggs were, to quote him, fantastic! Hand-trimmed steak meant literally nothing was left on his plate. Not a speck of gristle or fat, and he's very picky about that. The space isn't fancy, and the food was slow to come, but the food was Soo worth the wait. Maria and her son catered our State Marching band event early November. They delivered the food to the Stoker Stadium right on time. They brought enough food to feed our crew for lunch and dinner. Food was hot and yummy. Salsa and chips were excellent! We had a taco bar with chicken and ground beef. We felt like we got a great value for what they brought and they couldn't have been more helpful to ensure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend them!! read more
