It's what you expect a Mexican chain restaurant to be. The prices are on a high level and the size of our meal was ok. I was able to make a vegan option from the vegetarian section of the menu, it was vegetable enchilada with whole beans and rice. The veggies were fresh, beans good, I didn't care for the rice. They don't allow you to choose al pastor for a option for taco plate, but if you want to order one, you can't either, you have to get 3... what a stupid policy... First time we went here, they wouldn't seat us 40 minutes before they closed even thought people were in there eating. We went a second time to give the food a chance. First, the service was horrible. We were sat, and then no one came to take our drink orders or bring us water. We waited about 10 minutes, then got up and found someone, who turned out to be our server. We ended up having to look for him when we needed more napkins or another drink. I've been eating here for decades & I love it. The cabbage salsa they bring at the beginning of the meal is crazy good and a reason to go in itself. We learned to trust the El Tapatio name from Page, AZ, and were super excited to see it while road tripping around Colorado! Their menu is enormous and very overwhelming, but I doubt you'll find a dud on these pages. My parents ordered the Fajitas Trio & I had the Carne Asada. The Carne Asada was PERFECT and so tender, so flavorful. Truly, I don't know that I could have asked for it to be better in any way. I didn't have much of the Fajitas, but the few bits I had hit the spot, and my parents really enjoyed it. Oh, and I must praise El Tapatio's very refresing cabbage salsa once again--it was just as good as when we had it for the first time in Page! Best Carne Asada plate! I had mine cooked well done and it was juicy and tender with the charbroil marks making it super tasty! Lunch plate is around $13.50. The rice and beans were just like home, not overly embellished with spices, just some cheese. for the rice, simple and delicious. You also get a choice of corn or flour tortillas, fresh tasty pico with just a little kick of spice and dollop of guacamole. This is an average Mexican spot in town. The prices are pretty high in comparison to other places and for what you get. I've had the Margaritas several times and they're good. Cutest, nicest, little Mexican place! I would give it a 4 star on solely the food with outstanding 5 star service. We were greeted right on entry and seated in a brightly painted booth inside. Within a few moments a basket of chips arrived, along with the house salsa and a tangy slaw. Less than 3 minutes in and our visit was already off to a great start! This is also one of those restaurants with a *huge* menu of options, so it took me forever to decide on what to get! I saw an "Italian" margarita listed on the drink menu and asked our server what that meant. Apparently, it's a margarita with some Disarrono liqueur added. Hmmmm... I was intrigued but he said he didn't like it very much because it tasted kind of like medicine and that the house margarita was "really nice". He then ran off to got me a tiny taster of that liqueur to try so I could decide (and yes, it did kind of taste like cough syrup!!) I love that kind of honesty! Not selling me the fancy one and just giving an honest recommendation. The house margarita was, indeed, really nice. :) Our meals were served quickly, hot and in giant proportions. Excellent, authentic Mexican food. Prices seem high at first but when those big plates come out you automatically think "ooooh makes sense". HUGE porrion sizes and it's all delicious. Service was great, especually for a large party of 8. He was mothing but friendly, cool and worked hard to get things timed right. We order two pitchers of the house margarita, which was enough to share at about 2 drinks or so per person. Fav meals included the tacos pastor (spicy spicy), the fajitas and the cinco de mayo enchiladas. Each dish was perfectly executed with the right flavors---- that carne asada must have been marinating for days because it is packed with spices and flavor. So was the chicken for the fajitas. Decor is beautiful and bright with hand painted chairs, tables and canvas art throughout the restaurant. Bathrooms were clean. I can't think of anything else to say! As a California-born man whose been stuck on the east coast for the past six months, I've been jonesing for some good Mexican food. So on my road trip back home along I-70 I came across this gem. Festive ambience It's like they took the whole of Mexico and condensed it down into the footprint of a small restaurant. Great selection of food and tequila. If we were charged half of what we paid that would still Be far to much. What really makes me write this review is that they charge for every little thing that says it's included but it isn't. This is the one on North Street. I can't remember the last time I had such good Carnitas Tacos. Now the one in Fruita has the best Chili Rellenos. Unfortunately North Street only offered Crispy Rellenos which I think ruins it. But, I guess many people like 'em that way. I tried one once and I think the flavor of the Chili gets lost. read more
