Had a delicious authentic Mexican meal. I made a reservation and the hostess was very professional and super friendly. They work as a team, so we had multiple people checking on us to make sure we were taken care of. I was very happy to see that most of the diners were Latino. I knew I had chosen wisely. I chose combo 20, I think, which had a chile relleno, enchilada, and taco served with refried beans, coleslaw, and rice. It was amazing!! I really liked that you have the option of substituting black beans or pinto beans for a healthier option. I really enjoyed the mushroom salsa!! I had never seen or heard of it and it was really wonderful. I had a delicious drink that I forgot the name of. The chile relleno was the best I have ever had. Most Mexican places charge a huge premium on any combos that include a chile relleno, but not here!! The drink menu and the food menu is very lengthy. They were just covered in greasy cheese. The rice had absolutely no flavor. And the beans were overly salty and had a weird flavor. The chips and salsa were decent. But they give you a bowl of diced mushrooms to go along with it. That's a new experience for me. It was not a good experience either. They seem to be fairly busy so people in Colorado seem to like this place. But it is not good Mexican food. Totally do not go here. My mother got the bongo soup. This restaurant was in walking distance across from the Holiday Inn we were staying at. We went around 4pm so it wasn't busy at all. Ok, stopped by this place on a pit stop from Denver. It was quite a way away from the highway, but it had good reviews here so we thought we'd give it a try vs some fast food. What a pleasant surprise! The place looks nice, had very nice and attentive staff. We were seated and promptly got the free chips and salsa, and another bowl with a mushroom, carrot, onion, cilantro, and a couple other ingredients. The mushroom "dip" was unique - I've never seen anything like it, and it was good - but tasted better on a dish (see below) The salsa was probably the best salsa I've ever had with chips. It was surprisingly spicy but with a complex flavor. They had a huge menu with a lot of options. She got the shrimp Caesar salad for something light, and said it was fresh with good flavor, feels nutritious and filling. It felt healthy and tasted good (she also tried the mushroom dip with it and liked the combo). I ordered the burrito loco with carne asada. Very good - the carne asada was thin strips of very smoky and flavorful steak. The burrito was very large, with generous portions of sour cream and guacamole, with plenty of cheese, green Chile sauce, and a perfect combo of beans, tomatoes, lettuce, rice. This was delicious, and I'm glad we went a little of the highway for some food. Nota bene: the person next to us ordered the chimichanga, my normal first dish. She really liked it and said the margarita was "out of this world, as good as I've ever had." The crispy Chile relleno that I ordered on the side was really good too! I recently had a job at Starbucks in Grand Junction and noticed this establishment that looked interested, and your boy was hungry after the long drive. I checked them out on yelp and the reviews and overall rating were not that bad at all. The restaurant yelp page did say MI MEXICO - CLOSED but I observed folks leaving and entering the restaurant. I gave them a call and they were like YES, we are open. I told the lady that they need to update that cause I was about to Leave and go somewhere else. The restaurant was next door, so I was like let's see if the place is as good as their high rating. When I walked in, the decor was beautiful. Had that Spanish ambience to it that made the anticipation run high. The seats in the restaurant were very uncomfortable. The back of the seat was hard and made my back feel like I was doing wall sits! The waiter greeted us with complimentary chips and salsa that we munched on while we looked over our menu. Was time to get a drink and order some food. Nothing really didn't catch my eye on the menu so believe it or not I ordered the traditional wings and yes, I was at a Mexican restaurant. (Don't Judge ME) with a beer to help me relax a little bit. My lady ordered the Deluxe Beef Burrito, w/ flour tortillas, guacamole, sour cream with beans and rice. The wings were ok but what can I expect getting it from a Mexican restaurant. The Beef Burrito, however, was another story. Being that my lady is Hispanic, she didn't like her food at all, stating that it didn't taste authentic, and I had to second that thought with my tastebuds. She took a big bite and spit it right back out. The food was inedible! WAITER PLEASE! The Waiter quickly came, and we told him that there was absolutely no flavor, and the food left a lingering taste that was awful in my mouth! Mi Mexico was more than accommodating and they even took the Deluxe Beef Burrito off the ticket. We really like their food. Especially the happy hour. You usually have to ask for the happy hour menu and at times when that is done the service goes south. Its like they are offended that you dont want a full dinner at 3:30pm in the afternoon! They advertise it all over the radio so this baffles me. Maybe they think tips won't be as good. And maybe they aren't from some people. My last tip was almost 60% though. I always tip on what the non discounted price would have been. Not the servers fault the food and beverage is discounted for happy hour. That being said, we've always put up with the "happy hour attitude" because it's so good! I must say the last visit though was exceptional. Victor gave us great attitude and service. We enjoy the atmosphere of the bar so we always sit there, even if eating dinner. All the apps we've had are great. Beer is always extremely cold. Also, the mushroom ceviche they serve with the chips and salsa is bad ass! Keep up the great work. We'll be back! read more

Came about 2:30 pm and the Carne Asada Supreme lunch special is still as good as ever. Service was excellent, food hot and delicious. It came out quickly. I recommend the corn tortillas with butter. The meat was perfectly grilled and tender. Some places don't have good food quality after the main lunch hour, but that's not the case here. Come and try them out. Lunch Special prices are until 4pm. So we stopped at the Mi Mexico in Montrose and the service and food was amazing. This stop was not so much. Food was ok and same with service. We actually ordered the same thing at both places as we liked it so much at the other one but it did not stack up to the other location. Food was just ok and did not compare the location at Montrose and our drinks were empty more than full. They were not busy when we visited so that was not the issue, staff was just busy chatting and doing other things than worrying about customers. Location was standard Mexican flare and colors and provided an ok meal for the price. Would suggest the Montrose location though if you are looking. read more

My dad brought us here for lunch on Christmas Eve, upon us all wanting to try it. This place was previously an Italian place called Johnny Carino's (under different ownership). I tried one of their pina coladas and it was really good. Chips, salsa, and pico de gallo were brought to us. The chips weren't as good as others I'd had but they weren't the worst either. The pico de gallo was really, really good. I am a sucker for cilantro and this pico definitely had it. YUM YUM! I ordered Enchiladas and my meal was so good! I finished the whole thing, much to my surprise, especially after gorging on the chips and salsa beforehand. The meals were large in portion size and I thought for sure I'd have to "doggy bag" my meal. I found it a bit strange, however, that coleslaw comes with the meal. Really...cole slaw? Weird, to say the least... Our waitress and the busboy were very good and their service was really efficient. Always checking on us and keeping our glasses filled with water and drinks. That's one thing I always look for and will give kudos on. Customer service is key and when you get really good customer service, they will get good reviews. One more thing: this restaurant is very clean in appearance and the decor is nice. Will pay another visit to this restaurant upon our next visit to the area. Also recommended it to other family members of ours who have been wanting to try it and my dad said he will gladly return again as well. read more
