The home made tomato basil soup was rich, comforting, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Together, they made the ultimate comfort meal. Of course, the pastries were just as impressive--fresh, beautifully made, and full of flavor. We had the cream cheese kolaches and the white chocolate raspberry scone (heated up per her suggestion!) The eggs were lukewarm and the top pancake was cold. What do you do? On the other hand, I got three slices of bacon. The bacon wasn't good enough to eat all three. Soft drinks tasted weird, like off-brand but we were told they were Pepsi products. We were just driving through so I don't know what, if any other options were available.They have a booming business and I'm not sure why. It may be the only game in town. A male food-prep worker with short, dark hair was preparing a salad in the restaurant kitchen…read more While making the salad, he deliberately SPIT into it, knowingly contaminating the food. Despite what he had done, he continued preparing the dish as though nothing had happened. After finishing the salad, the food-prep worker handed it to a waitress without telling her what he had done. The waitress, unaware that the food had been contaminated, proceeded to take the salad out to the dining area to be served to customers. This was an extremely serious violation of food-safety standards and could have put customers at risk of becoming ill. Food should always be prepared hygienically and handled responsibly, and intentionally contaminating food is unacceptable in a restaurant setting.

Not my favorite dining experience. The spicy tacos weren't spicy. The grilled cheese was cold and only the bread had been cooked - the cheese inside was gummy and unappealing. Other than the casual "sorry" from the cashier no one came by even when one of the owners came upstairs to talk to another customer. We were practically permanent fixtures in their dining room waiting for food. I'm sure it's a great place and we were just there at an "off-time". It has very affordable prices and lots of customers coming and going - so clearly it's very popular. If you're on the road and looking for a quick bite this isn't the place. My kids genuinely thought they'd have eaten food faster if they just waited for Rifle and they're not wrong.
