We went to The Stockyard in Delta last week for their yummy burgers and homemade fries. They had a drawing for a free pie that draws on Sunday. I got a call that I had won and what kind of pie could she make me. I told her banana cream or chocolate cream. I picked it up today. We got chocolate cream. Fresh from scratch, Graham cracker crust, large layer of dark chocolate, on top of that a fluffy milk chocolate layer and whipped cream on that. Not too rich, just perfect. Thank you The Stockyard! Can't wait for our next burger and fries. Everyone is so nice in there. It has become a weekly stop! We recently retired and relocated and are loving the area. read more

My wife and I went for her birthday, it was a Sunday and most restaurants around here are closed. It wasn't busy, the waitstaff were very friendly and helpful. It wasn't a great value nor a poor one, it seems like cost has become kind of a non-factor anymore since you can rarely eat out for less than $20/person, so I don't give cost a lot of weight in my opinions. The food was tasty, my wife really enjoyed her burger. The only criticism is that our fries were cooked in oil that was too hot at the time and they got a bit scorched. Went there for lunch yesterday and ordered the chicken fried steak ($18.95). The food was MEH and we were continuously swatting flies during lunch (inside). Great place for breakfast in Delta. I wasn't sure, based on some of the reviews - but you don't have a lot of choices in Delta on a Sunday! The menu isn't large, but my husband (a biscuits and gravy kinda guy) saw that the gravy was specifically "sausage gravy" - so biscuits and gravy it was. It didn't disappoint - the biscuits were clearly homemade. That is increasingly rare and very much appreciated. The gravy not only had sausage in it, it was loaded with chunks of sausage. He also got a side of sausage patties. They were good, but a little salty for us - but great when eaten with some of my pancakes. I did the cowboy breakfast - one pancake, one egg, one meat. I had pit ham (awesome big slice of tender, sweetly smoked ham) and an egg over medium. The egg tasted like a fresh egg to me and obviously, I love the ham. The one LARGE pancake was ethereal. It was light and almost fragile. Very tasty! The place is large. When you go in the main door, to the left are some booths and counter seating. In front of you is a refrigerated case full of homemade pies and cakes - so many different kinds and all made here (not just "baked here" as may place call it when the bake frozen big-box items - this stuff is MADE here). To the right, more booths and then an entryway to the lounge area. The lounge area does have a bar, but it also has tables that can seat large parties. When we were there - a table of about 14 or more family members were enjoying a group breakfast. Service was good - especially considering there were 2 servers and a counterman for all this space (and - it was mostly full!). What a terrific experience! After walking out of A&M Creations earlier in the evening due to a horribly rude server, we stopped in at the Stockyard. We are so glad we did! We hadn't been to The Stockyard in many years and remembered how good it was. So, after showing our guests from Florida the Grand Mesa, we were ready for some good food. So our choice was The Stockyard. "SIGH"!!! Our friends ordered the Ground Round Dinner and asked for it to be plain with BBQ in the side.When it arrived it was covered with onion gravy and not plain. The server did not ask how they wanted the steak cooked and it was beyond well done. The brisket soup had an overwhelming smokiness, making it inedible. My boyfriend's burger was rare. He wasn't asked how he wanted his burger cooked either. The server never bothered to check on us until we had stopped eating. I nicely expressed my extreme disappointment since they were here from Florida. She asked if we wanted desert and I told her that I was afraid to now! And the tea tasted like instant. For $66 and change for two meals that weren't fit to eat and a child's cheeseburger that was ok, we'll pass on The Stockyard next time. read more

Quick, fast, friendly! Burger was delish. I eat a lot of burgers. This one was hot, juicy, simply delectable. Onion strings are really thin onion rings. Batter was crisp and crunchy. Tortilla soup was demolished as soon as fast as that hot stuff could be demolished. Lemon meringue pie was stand out. Their server was friendly, helpful and full of sass. This is an interesting place. The decor is nice, but in need of repair on a lot of the seating. Our waitress was a very pretty, dark-haired girl with tattoos. Unfortunately I didn't get her name. She was really great. Attentive, friendly, efficient and paid special attention to our 2 year old, even bringing him little plates of croutons and cucumbers. Prices were mainly pretty decent, more or less average, with the very notable exception of the dishes listed under "Dinners". These seem almost comically over-priced. I mean, double or more what I would expect. I think it might have to do with the steaks being sourced from some high-end ranch that they advertise on the menu. I'm not sure, but I do know I can get an exceptional 8oz sirloin at Texas Roadhouse for about 1/3 the price listed here. In any case, we obviously didn't order any of those dishes, instead getting the Smoked Polish Sausage, a Chicken and Swiss Sandwich and a Turkey Club meal. All these were really good. The sausage was possibly the best I've ever had. I struggle on this rating because I want to give them 5 stars but the oddly over-priced dinners and the lack of upkeep have to knock off a couple points. I've eaten here 3 times since I've been here and planning to make it a 4th tomorrow. I love their daily soups. Did I mention that I've eaten here 3 times since I've been in Colorado? That would be 3 days in a row since I discovered this awesome local gem. Their soup has been different every day. I wanted to go every day for a single week to see if the soups would repeat, but alas, I had a full and promising meal schedule. I was also hoping to sit at every possible table but that was not meant to be. If you stop by, take a moment to appreciate the decor and the intricate leather work on the seats. You don't see that kind of stuff every day. They have a typical American lunch and dinner menu. Sandwiches and burgers for lunch, steaks and the like for dinner. I like their salad bar, and they have a spectacular selection of homemade desserts. They have a decent burger. My bf tried the ribeye sandwich and made a bunch of special requests to make it edible for him, but he said it was alright. I thought it was okay with the additions, but as it was, a grilled piece of steak between a dry roll, it seemed kind of uninspired to me. I was not impressed by their steak and I would not order it again for these reasons: 1. Pretty expensive for what you're getting. 2. They put on their menu that they serve a steak blue, 30 seconds on each side. 3. Their steak was too thin to cook rare to begin with, about a half inch thick. 4. Steak was definitely not blue. 5. Sides were frozen veggies, microwaved cornbread, and a scoop of mashed potatoes and gravy. 6. A weird gamey taste to my steak. Maybe it is the local flavor since the meat is supposedly a local brand, but I also ate elk meat that night and the elk was less gamey. Not sure what's going on there. 7. Did I mention that this was expensive for what you're getting? I know they serve local meat and it's a local restaurant, but I don't feel like it's a good bite for your buck. On the plus side, you get a cup of soup with your meal and the service here is real friendly. A friendly face and good service will definitely keep me coming back for more. Oh, and a slice of pie. Or maybe blueberry cheesecake. No, definitely pie. read more

This is an old-fashioned Western diner and family restaurant. It is a fun place, with friendly waitstaff, good menu and good food. I live on the East Coast, and since, when I am at home, I tend to eat largely organic foods and meats, dairy and eggs from drug-free and pasture-fed, cage-free livestock,.Now, let me make totally clear from the start that if this is the kind of food that you are looking for while you are in Delta, Colorado, then you will NOT find it at Stockyars, nor is it likely that you will find it at ANY restaurant in Delta or within 15 miles of Delta~ However, if you are a looking for a good old-fashioned traditional Western diner, one that is locally-owned and operated, and frequented by old-timer locals as well as by travelers from afar who were passing by on the highway, and if you want a place that is open long hours each day and has a wide range of diner-type menu offerings, and lots of old-fashioned traditional dessert dishes such as pies, cakes and ice cream, then this is the place for you! BTW, the pie display, and the pie selection, are each enormous! This place is genuine Americana! It is not fancy, not at all. But the menu selection is wide and great, and the food is good, and the serving portions are hearty. I ate here at least six times during a 4-day stay in the area with a friend while I was on a research field trip, and my meals included breakfasts, brunch and dinners, and all of the meals were very good, and very satisfactory. One thing that amazed me was that this place, which has three seating areas and a considerable number of tables, was always crowded, regardless of whether we showed up for a meal at 7 AM, 10 AM, 6 PM or 9 PM! They seem to have a faithful following, and it is my impression (and also that of my friend Greta who was traveling with me) that this place is a local legend! The service was quite good, albeit a bit slow and scattered at times (simply because the waitresses were so busy with the crowds) By the way, I really liked the waitresses we encountered during our numerous meals at this joint -- they reflected a wide range of Western women, including gritty and tough older women with gravelly voices from too many years of smoking too many cigeaettes and with hearts of gold, to young, saucy, sassy tattooed trendy punk waitresses with little bits of attitude! In fact, I remember that during our last two meals here during our stay, and much to the amusement of my friend Greta, who was traveling with me, I developed a crush on a tattooed punk-like and slightly-trendy waitress with soulful eyes who had just been hired and was still going through waitress training! ...sigh! Overall, great place. I would eat here again for most of my meals if I were staying in this area again for a period of time. read more

The ultra casual nature of the waitstaff turned me off to it and made this steakhouse feel a bit more like a truck stop. On the other hand, its decor made it feel like a true-to-life old west joint to get your grub on. Once inside you will find a selection of home-baked pies on display, standard American menu items, and a laid-back atmosphere. It was ok overall. It looked cool in a rustic way. The food ranged from barely ok to very good. Starting with the best, the chicken fried steak sandwich was very good. The fried shrimp, fried chicken and italian soup were good. The mashed potatoes and the white gravy they were served with were on the bland side, but ok. The French fries looked good, but didn't taste fresh or hot. The strawberry rhubarb pie was the worst I've had. The waitress was barely ok, but maybe because she was the only one there. Stopped by here for breakfast while traveling from Montrose to Cedaredge in Colorado. We were greeted the minute we walked into the cute rustic restaurant by 2 smiling faces and told to seat ourselves anywhere. The server immediately showed up and asked for our drink order as she handed us menus. We ordered our food a short time later and as we waited I had a chance to look around. It was clean and definitely an older establishment, but had charm. When the food came, it was hot and prepared perfectly to my liking, a ham, cheddar and jalapeño omelet. I do wish I had remembered to ask for extra crisp hash browns as there were pale, but I find that is the norm at most restaurants. The biscuit was delicious and obviously homemade. In town from Denver working at one of the nearby mines. Went to this place for dinner. Order the larger sirloin steak with vegetables, and the daily soup on the side. The soup was good, 3-stars. The rest of the meal was nearly unacceptable. The vegetables were cold. Not room temp, but cold. Maybe they put the plate outside (in Jan.) before bring it to my table. The steak was probably choice grade, very tough, but cooked to my order (rare). Definitely not worth the $21 price tag. Seasoning on the steak and vegetables was lacking. The vegetables were completely plain. No salt, no pepper. The steak was lightly seasoned using Montreal Steak Seasoning. I could have done better at home. My coworker ordered a mushroom and swiss burger that looked much more appetizing and was significantly cheaper. Overall this isn't a bad place for lunch or dinner, but stick to the sandwich side of the menu. You'll likely be disappointed with the dinner entrees. read more

Yes the decor is interesting but the food needs help. I would strongly recommend not ordering a hamburger. The hamburger had a funny taste to it and almost like it was half spoiled. OMG DON'T EAT HERE, YUCK!!! I was visiting Delta, Colorado 7/17/19 and the clerk at Days inn recommended this place for a good steak dinner which I was craving. The name STOCKYARDS should've been my first clue. My friend and I entered and seated ourselves in a booth near a window. Next thing I noticed were dozens of dead flies on the window sill. So we moved to a different table. Second clue! We ordered, the salad came and it was not fresh. The lettuce had brown edges. The worst is yet to come. When our plates arrived so did a million(slight exaggeration) flies which we had to constantly fan them away. They were determined to land on our food and they did. Management didn't seem to be bothered. I couldn't eat in peace after three bites so I asked for a to go box, which they provided. I was so grossed out by the whole thing that my stomach couldn't handle it. My dog ended up eating my $25.00 steak dinner with overcooked tough meat, mushy frozen vegetables and soggy cornbread for which they charged extra. The baked potato was the only thing that was good. Disgusting place. Don't know how they stay in business. I guess ripping off the tourists is how they do it. I usually don't have any trouble walking out of a place.
