Ok Publix. I don't love the layout here. I know they're trying to keep all of the important things on the edges (produce, meat, dairy) but I don't like that the cheese and eggs would be the very last thing I grab. And the beer and wine is on an odd aisle in the middle of the store, right next to the frozen pizzas? No. And why is the peanut butter and jelly with the eggs right by the pharmacy? None of it makes sense to me. My main gripe is that I came on Sushi Wednesday around 6pm, hoping for an easy, cheap dinner. I located the sushi and picked out what looked good to me, only to find out at the register that what I selected was not included in the $5 promo. Apparently they had sold out and all the $5 options were gone. I didn't realize this, as nothing was marked with the discount, so I just assumed all that was left was included. Btw, what was left was all california rolls, not even anything with salmon/tuna. Just a general gripe about grocery stores nowadays: I do not want to do self check out. Hire the right amount of people to work at your store. Have enough lanes open. Not everything in the world should be so that you cannot speak to somebody else. We hear recently for a special on their cranberry turkey sub and it was really good. I picked up a salad from the fruit area I. The rear and both were good. Both remained fresh in the fridge a long time. I used a $2 perk that was good on a $10 purchase. Needless to say I was pleased with that deal. I went back today. Coming from New Jersey, a state known for their great subs, in a way it hurts me to state that a supermarket has some of the best subs in the area. But it is also a 100% true statement. Publix subs are very good. My go-to sub is probably their Italian sub, which is truly a tasty offering. I also enjoy their roast beef and cheese sub. I would definitely recommend upgrading it by using Boar's Head meat. It is definitely worth the small upcharge. It is great to see Publix expanding beyond the boundaries of their home state of Florida and spreading throughout the southeast. Not only am I happy about it, but I am confident that the communities that Publix opens a location in are very grateful for a Publix opening by them. Although this Publix is close to my house, it is not my typical grocery store. I feel like Publix in general never really has. The customer service has always been great and the stores are usually very nice. But the prices tend to be a little higher unless you are willing to base your shopping trip on their specials that week. Which with two one-year-olds running around my house... I am not willing to do. That is basically the only reason I don't shop here regularly. But they do have certain things that bring me in here regularly that you no other grocery can beat. Chicken Fingers and Chicken Salad are the one's leading the charge. This store in particular feels a little more cramped that other Publix. Yes, Publix is a chain. I'm generally a no-chain girl. But, with grocery stores, that can be difficult. But, Publix is awesome. They have everything I need to survive: organic fruit and veggies, almond butter, hormone-free chicken, and they even have some of the more obscure things I like. For example, they carry Justin's Maple Almond Butter. It is by far the BEST almond butter I've ever had (try it, you'll thank me! especially if you're trying to go paleo or cut out legumes like peanuts). I also try to avoid dairy and soy, making milk choices limited. I prefer coconut milk to almond milk any day, but, again, it can be hard to find. This Publix tends to keep the Silk Coconut Milk in stock! Yay! Another plus to shopping at Publix instead of some other chain grocery stores is that it is always clean, the staff helpful and friendly, the parking lot is well lit and generally has some type of guard or police officer there at night, and their store brand is fabulous. I do my grocery shopping at Publix and at Aldi. They have great deals, especially with their B1G1 sales they have every week. Beats the prices at Walmart, easily. They will typically have some pantry staples on rotation and have similar type items on B1G1 so I will make sure to purchase when they are on sale. To make things a sweeter deal, they have coupons in the store and sometimes digital coupons that can be stacked with their sales. I have gotten some good deals here for pantry staples. For produce it is hit or miss with prices. I will generally purchase produce at Aldi, which is another adventure and review on its own. I will sometime purchase free range eggs here, which I am very happy they stock. I am disappointed in the lack of free range/organic/humane meat as they do not have as much of a selection. I've found that it's pretty difficult in Birmingham to find such meats, but I am happy to see more options for eggs on the shelves at Publix and other grocery chains. Sometimes you can catch a sample... and the samples are a decent sized portion. Along with their sample, you can pick up a recipe card on how to duplicate what you just ate. I have yet to try to replicate a sample, but these do give me some fresh, new ideas for dinner which is always something I am looking for. They also have prepared food that you can pick up. They have a deli, bakery, typical grocery food like chicken and fixings, as well as soups. I had their chili one day and unfortunately suffered greatly the next day. I haven't been brave enough to try again... perhaps the temp wasn't high enough or I didn't eat it soon enough. For what it's worth, it was delicious going down... The customer service here is great. Cashiers are always willing to answer any questions and help educate on sales. Baggers will typically pick up on those that may need help delivering groceries to their cars... and I would say 90% of the time they help me with my groceries. I am pregnant and they figure I need all the help I can get. I see them help mothers with kids and seniors as well. It's definitely a great trademark for Publix. I just wished I had someone helping me with my groceries from the car to my kitchen! read more

This Publix is one of the best I've ever shopped at. I may be a little biased because this is my go-to store in my neighborhood, but it's seriously that good. The employees here at Publix are superior to any other store I've shopped at. They recognize your face and always seem to be in a good mood. I shop here for the atmosphere and customer service alone, but their BOGO is clutch. The good thing about Publix (in Alabama) is that you don't necessarily have to purchase 2 to get the deal. You can purchase one of the BOGO's and receive 1/2 off the price. Another thing I like about Publix is their butchers. They will carve, cube and slice your meat at no additional cost. It's perfect if you are purchasing a lot of meat for frozen bagged meals. Publix's pharmacy is also a winner. At this particular location, they have a drive through pharmacy service that makes picking up my RX's helpful after a hard day's work. Their pharmacist's are extremely helpful. I recently spoke with my pharmacist about an RX refill and she helped guide me to find the correct generic version that would work best for me. Way to go Publix on Montclair! I am fan of Publix and the BOGO free promotions that they do occasionally. They have a top notch customer service team and the atmosphere is much better than Wal-Mart which isn't hard to do. This location usually has a police office at the front door later in the day just for extra security measure and reassurance. This is in Irondale! The only con I have about this Publix is the lack of options in the beer selection. Although this store has more options than other stores I have been to, they are still behind in the game. Nothing crazy awesome about his one in particular except the fact that they are building a new pharmacy (what it looks like) currently and the cashiers are really great! I love the service that Publix offers in general, and this location has always been exceptional in this category. The cashiers are always very friendly, and there is one bagger there that always goes out of his way to tell you to have a good day or thanks for stopping by...even if you are just walking past him when he is at another register. Parking also seems to be easier at this location than others that I occasionally visit. The prices may not be the best in town, but the buy one get one free specials are what I come in for. Unlike other places, you can buy just one of the BOGO specials and still get it at half price, which is nice if you don't need that much of a given item. Nice, clean store with friendly people and a great selection of groceries -especially organics- and non-groceries. Their pharmacy even has an automated system that call to let you know your prescriptions are ready for pick-up (new to me .. I don't do prescriptions but my friend does). I love this Publix! It's clean they always have exactly what I need and the staff go out of their way to be extremely friendly to me each time I go in. The deli meat is really really tasty and me and my husband like to get their deli deals for dinner sometimes. We often get the rotisserie chicken meal. They always have enough cashiers so I don't have to wait in the check out which is huge in my book especially compared to Wal-Mart or ALDI.Their produce is always fresh and well stocked. Man, this place was PACKED on Super Bowl Sunday!!! It is a nice branch in a very convenient location for anybody living in the Mountain Brook, Highland area that appreciates higher cost/higher quality goods and service. If you're not into paying much for groceries, you got Winn Dixie and Walmart just around the corners. If you can get in and out while buying the items on sale that they have every week, you'll be doing great! The app is very helpful on the smartphone; you can create shopping lists from their weekly ads which shows all items on sale and their rocking Buy One Get One deals. I tear these things up; and it feels excellent looking at the box on the bottom which tells me how much I saved! Woohoo for saving money! This is a classy grocery chain blossoming up into Alabama from the Sunshine State. Check it out; I'm telling you, get in here for the sales they offer especially. That's pretty much all I buy here.
