I am going to really miss this location once it officially closes. It's one of the few place where I can get Dungeness crab claws in the seafood department. I also got a yummy king cake from the bakery. There aren't huge markdowns at this point but there were some clearance greeting cards, bundled for $5 a package. The prices here are better than any other storm in Birmingham in my opinion and the staff is super nice and helpful and you can tell this is a good store because the people that have been there have been there for years. I will be honest. With Instacart being my go-to way of buying groceries these days (pickup at store), I haven't set foot in any grocery store in months. I decided at the last minute to cook breakfast this morning, and decided to stop by this Winn Dixie because it's minutes away from my place. Quick in and out purchase. No lines. Pleasant staff. Decent prices. Sure, you may pay a little more for certain items, but you can also a lot here if you look for sales and BOGO. I love the option of shopping without bumping into others and where the workers actually know where items are located that I'm looking for. My brother in law is a pharmacist here at their pharmacy. I switched all my prescriptions over to him during the current crisis and he has been doing our groceries after work here. All the food he brings home is fresh and of good quality. Please continue to come to this place but not if you're sick! Essential employees have families at home and we need to be mindful of the rules so we can protect them and their loved ones. ie my brother in law has a pregnant wife at home, a toddler, a mother 65 plus of age, and in laws in the same boat. When you do come, stay 6 feet away from everyone, don't hoard because they get shipments twice a week, don't touch everything only the things you need and use sanitizer when you come in and leave. I heard they're putting in plexi glass/sneeze guards to protect employees but I wish they didn't wait so long. read more

The best meat selection in town. Pharmacy staff is fantastic and patient. They are doing double duty these days due to the pandemic - vaccines, boosters, flu shots - all on top of regular Pharmacy duties. Store is tidy, produce is fresh, and the inventory is well stocked. Despite not having enough time to peruse the aisles like a crazy person (because I seriously have a huge crush on grocery stores) we b-lined it to their fairly robust wine selection that spanned the back-left corner of their store. Chardonnays, Pinots, Merlots -- they had them all! And then in the very corner, there are the Moets. If your height falls under seven feet, you'll have to request the assistance of a staff member to retrieve your Moet. It's pricier, obviously, and they make it a bit more difficult to obtain for good reason. From what I remember, they carry three, maybe four, flavors. I asked for their apricot Moet, because... why the hell not? I later looked at the prices of Moet at other grocery stores, once I returned to Atlanta the next day, and Winn-Dixie sold it for ten dollars-ish cheaper. For real, to be exported from France this is pretty affordable, and I would've never known to visit this establishment if it wasn't for my homie. Other tidbits: -It's incredibly clean. -Produce section was on fleek. Very niicccccceeeee. (Borat voice.) -Ftaff there are very friendly. -Complimentary WiFi and coffee. Overall a good grocery store. They did a renovation a few years back, and the interior is very nice. The best thing they have in my eyes is that they are right by my house. There beer selection is thorough, but not the biggest I've seen. Good wine selection. And the produce is always fresh. They do have some of the best meat selection and quality of any grocery store around here. Prices are fair, but not the cheapest. Their specials are well marked and they have great fuel perks. I still think there are other places you could shop and come out cheaper (event with specials and fuel perks). But for the quality, the prices are reasonable. If you strictly stick to the specials, they will compete with any one. This is my overall quality, go to grocery store. And if you are nearby, it should be yours too! read more

I feel bad asking this, but why is Winn-Dixie so bad? So basic. The most basic. Basic is the word. They don't have any "good" brands. Very little options for anything organic or interesting. If you love plain white bread and the most basic grocery store items this is your store. I live around the corner so I periodically try it out again and end up having to go to two stores because it just doesn't have what I need at the store. I love to find grass fed beef and free range chicken, organic options as much as possible, free range eggs, grass fed whole milk. Not just that, but like even medium high brow brands cannot easily be found here. I came here to make this post to ask Winn-Dixie if they want to stay in the game would they consider stepping it up a pinch. I've noticed their parking lot is never half as full as Publix right next-door. There's a reason for that and it's easily solvable. Come on guys! :) read more

This is a very nice store. They have great produce and it's always organized and clean. They also have great deals! If you get the free Winn Dixie card there are so many buy one get one free or similar sales that you can get and it's on major items! Have to admit it looks awfully nice and the fruits and veg seem fresh and fluffy. One thing I always used to love about WD was that their express lane said "10 Items or Fewer". Ah, lovely to see proper grammar and word use by a grocer. Unfortunately, the express lane is now "self check out," which I don't think will ever catch on. Not with me anyway. Why do I want to bag my own groceries when someone will do it for free? But I do think they has closed the gap with the Publix behind them. Clean, well-organized and polite and responsive employees. I'm going to whichever has the shorter lines, trusting the market to keep the prices close. On last week Wednesday I went into Winn Dixie to order a cake for my Co-Workers Birthday. I went to pick the cake up on Sunday for his birthday was Monday October the 4th. When I got the Cake I was Very Disappointed with it. I was supposed to be a picture Cake with an Alabama Football Theme. The Cake itself looked like a First Grader prepared it. The picture on the cake looked awful. It had big bubbles all under the picture. The color on the picture did not look like the picture I left. The only representation of Alabama Football was a Very Thin Line of burgundy cake piping. Nothing Else. What ever happened to 'Thinking Outside of the box" or "Costumer Satisfaction". We must learn in business that you only get "One Chance" to make a Final Impression on a costumer. If that cake was an example of somebody's best effort, I'd hate to see their worst effort. Needless to say, I WILL NOT be going back the Winn Dixie on Montevallo Road for anything. For the most part, many of your grocery stores are about the same. There are categories however...cheap, midrange and EXPENSIVE! In my mind, WD has kinda been midrange, depending on the neighborhood. This one in Crestwood had declined over the years and it had really fallen off the map when Publix came to the 'hood a few years back. But with the recent renovations, WD has done a great job of changing its image. I think my favorite part of the renovated store includes the fruit & veggie section, beer & wine section, the sushi bar and the fresh cut cheese section. Pretty much any kind of cheese you think you might want, they have. There's also an olive bar if that's your thing. The side of the store with these sections has been outfitted with nice dark laminate floors...cool addition to a grocery store. What a great place. It is clean, welcoming, has great variety, and friendly customer service. The rewards program is the top reason to shop here as you get $.05 off every gallon of gas for every $50 spent in store. The reward expire at the end of the following month so use them! The price is higher than nearby competitors I believe but Winn Dixie is beating the others in their alcohol selection mainly beer. I love that they have such a wide variety compared to these others that may have 4-5 local beers and the rest is nasty 'domestic' bud light stuff. read more

This new store is much improved from just a few months ago. I appreciate the large selection of organic frozen foods. There appeared to be a nice selection of organic grains, snacks, etc. in the center aisles, but those items weren't on my list. With the growing popularity of this location, I hope the floral department will become more competitive with Publix, and the organic produce department will expand. Check out was a bit slow, but they are training new employees and I can wait a few extra minutes for that. As far as pricing goes, Wal-Mart is just down the street and Winn Dixie's prices aren't low enough for a one stop shopping experience; the prices of my light bulbs and Pine-Sol were high. I'll be going to Wal-Mart and then stopping by at Winn Dixie or Publix to pickup what I couldn't find at Wal-Mart. One other item, a while ago there was a segment on the news about Winn Dixie selling expired meats. This has stuck with me, and I haven't purchased meat from them since. I did pick up some turkey bacon yesterday and noticed that the expiration date was four days away. If you are going to purchase meat from Winn Dixie, check the dates. Come here all the time to pick stuff up for everyday needs. Its always a clean store, help is all over the place and ready to help however they can. They have a wide variety of meats, seafood, fresh vegtables, beer and wine. The discounts they provide with the card is really good and it goes along with a hook up on gas at participating shells in town. When we first moved down here, the cashiers and baggers were very below average and looked like they didnt want to be there, but over the last few months it has gotten MUCH better. read more

I was so happy to see this store be remodeled a while back. I always liked going there (friendly service, good sales, etc) but the store definitely needed a face lift. I was amazed after the work was done. The place definitely has more of an upscale feel to it. I really like their wine section, and the frequent sales that they run (including an ongoing 10% off any 4 bottles...on top of the great sale prices!!) The made in house sushi is also really good too if you don't feel like going to a restaurant for some. I know a lot of people are leery of store brand products, but their "Chek" drinks (of which there is a huge selection) are VERY good...and usually $2.50 a 12 pack or less! This has to be one of the nicest winn- dixie's. Honestly it feels like you are walking into whole food. I love the BOGO's. If you have not had their brand of drinks...they are awesome. I will say when I went here sunday I got upset. I forgot my card and tried giving them my number..... they could not find it. I had to put all of my groceries back in the cart, go to guest services and get another card. I am not going to pay full price if you do not have to. I was upset they just didnt use another card or discount it... ... I did this to save 5.oo... If i would have realized that was all i was saving then i would have not gone through the trouble. I like this place. It's pretty well kept. It has a pretty neat design, and they clearly mark sale items for you. They have a few specialty items I need that others places didn't have like lactose free yogurt and Velveeta shredded cheese. I think I can get used to this place. There's also a Redbox out front, which is always nice. They have a Western Union inside, too. read more

It has kind of an open market feel to it when you walk in. One thing I didn't like was it has a lot of signs on their shelves indicating what's a good buy, so many of them, It was kinda distracting. People were friendly, and not to crowded. I know it's just a grocery store, but it was nice to get in and out quickly and get all that I needed.
