I rarely ever write bad reviews, infact i've actually never written one before. piggly wiggly today changed that. i had about $100 worth of groceries for some chili that i was making and I was in a great mood coming into this. i went to check out and this guy didn't talk to me at all, didn't tell me my total, didn't tell me to swipe, he just didn't talk. I asked him how he was doing, nothing. literally nothing. the bagger was the same way, i said have a good day they just stared at me. customer service rep please talk to your guys. read more

I absolutely love this location! I mean they have a lot of the local items available. On my recent visit , I even saw some frozen meals from Roots & Revelry! I didn't even know this was a thing. This location is always busy but in a good way. They have a excellent wine selection! It's almost overwhelming bc there's so much to choose from. You have been warned! Lol Quality meats & produce too. The deli has some good food as well. I've had some hot meals from here & loved them. I love the staff here! What can I say I've always heard about them, idk if they have these in Dallas maybe out in the rural. But yea I just had to come to one just to say I have. Overall your everyday grocery necessities are here, was here in business and just had to get some things to survive the week. Years ago, I worked just down the hill from this location of The Pig and stopped there often because it was on the way to work. It's now a bit out of the way, but I make a point to go by once a month or so because of the beer selection. They fit a whole lot of variety into a relatively small space. It's one of the two places in Birmingham that stocks my favorite beer, Terrapin's RecreationAle. I go for the beer selection, but pick up other groceries while I'm there. Huge bonus: You won't find self-checkout here. Instead of making customers deal with the usual frustrations of self-checkout, the front of the store is filled with cashiers and baggers who are always ready to help. The Pig is giving more people jobs which better supports the community. Service is quick and outstanding. read more

I had a bad experience with this store. I bought 2 bags of potting soil, 40 pounds each and one bag of mulch. I went outside to get it and there were no 40 pounds of potting soil. I went back in and it turns out they only had 20 lb bags of the same brand of potting soil. The manager went outside and scan the bag came back in and scanned the barcode in the book and went in and out so many times I was in there for over 30 minutes waiting on the manager to figure out what was going on. She took up 30 minutes of my precious time and finally I just asked for a refund. Considering they kept me in there for over half an hour she could have just said take two bags of the 20 for each 40 lb bag that was wrong up and that you paid for with my apologies but instead she acted angry and very mad at me because they made a mistake. The mulch was $3.50 higher than Walmart but I still purchased it anyway. The potting soil was higher than Walmart also and then to be treated like that I'll never go back never lost that foot in that store again. read more

This is more than just a grocery store. Their breakfast is southern fast food at its best. You get your choice of cheese or regular grits, eggs, bacon and a biscuit (there's other breakfast options if that's your fancy) all for $3.84 tax included. They include a fork & knife so need to worry as your running late to work. I question myself, why I've been wasting my money elsewhere for breakfast. The store has been around forever, situated in a nice section of Homewood. The employees are always very nice and cheerful, making your shopping experience feel appreciated. If you miss breakfast... they serve lunch as well. You even have the convenience of the grocery store for whatever your needs may be. Enjoy. You won't regret it!! read more

If you are a craft beer drinker, they have the BEST craft beer selection of any grocery store in town. I'm definitely not exaggerating! They have beers from all over the world as well as local breweries. Price wise they are the same as everyone else, but selection wise they are amazing. I've been here a few times; mainly just for a quick stop for ice or last-minute forgotten items for a party or something. But I've never used this location as my go-to shopping spot only because it's not convenient for me. It's a fairly small grocery store, but it is a neighborhood store and works for that location. Overall, prices seem a tad high for regular grocery items. But I stopped here after work for two reasons: they carry Orpheus Brewing's Atalanta tart plum saison and the wine tasting. I had heard they are one of only a few that carry this beer so I looked them up and saw the info about the wine tasting. I remember years ago reading about the wine tasting but never thought about going. I knew this location was known for their wine selection, but I'd never taken the time to check it out. Wow! I was really impressed with the selection, the prices and the knowledge of the wine manager. Really nice and helpful. So the wine tasting featured five (or six?) different wines and you heard a little bit about all of them. I can appreciate how they allow you to take your glass around the store while you shop so you can really taste it without feeling rushed. At least I think they allow it because I saw a couple of folks coming back with full carts and empty glasses! Anyway, I highly recommend stopping by this location for great prices on wine. A lot of specials and great sales on a variety of wines. You will be pleasantly surprised. read more

I live in Homewood and go by the Pig a couple of times a week. I've never seen a business that was so friendly but was just a terrible store. All the Five star comments on here come from the wino's that shop there. You'll see at least one to two rich wino's carrying bottles of wine in there each time you go. It's ironic, because you know they're alcoholics, but they got that dang mask on.. but I digress. Any thing that's perishable like fruit, dairy products, frozen foods, ice cream... anything with a date on it, there's a 30% that it's spoiled or rotten. That's why the winos have zero clue about the milk or anything like that. They're probably too drunk to realize the ice cream has melted and refrozen about 4 times. I have bought 1/2 gallons of milk only to get home and find out it's turned into a mixture of buttermilk and cottage cheese. I've opened ice cream that was so bad, I couldn't eat the stuff for a month. Great for a diet, but I'm not on one. If anyone that works reads this, they knowns this is the truth. They've HAD to have complaints about the same stuff I've listed. I use to take it back, but I'm too damn tired. I'll get can-food there and stuff like soap. If I need milk, I'll go to the Circle K on Lakeshore & Green Springs ($6 a gallon) before I go to the Pig. Tonight I got a bag of salad that was just terrible. As usual, I just grabbed it because I was tired from work and didn't inspect it for 5 minutes. Maybe that's the goal of the Pig. By constantly selling stuff that's spoiled or rotten they'll drive me to drinking. Then I'll be a wino, buying $65 bottle of wine and won't give a damn that the cheese I'm eating is older than I am. read more

The store is really weird. I came in a couple minutes early to pick up some things for the office. Five minutes early. So I waited in my car for them to open while I checked a few emails on my phone. Five minutes later my car is surrounded by police officers. This really happened. They felt hostility for me simply being there a few minutes early. I guess they are like wild animals. Don't look at them in the eye and they won't attack you. To this day, it is one of strangest experiences that I've ever had. read more

My son was turning 9 and wanted a Godzilla Birthday party. That is not as easy to pull off, as it sounds btw. I ordered a Gozilla cake topper kit from amazon and stopped in the Florence location, on Palmetto street and talked to Stacey, in the bakery, about what i was thinking for his cake. She came up with some awesome ideas and i left feeling relieved and confident that his cake would be awesome. When the kit came in, it of course was a little different, than it looked online and the cake we discussed would no longer work. I went back to talk to her and took the kit with me and showed her the differences and how some of the things that we discussed would not work. We talked and she told me to leave the kit with her.....i had planned to put the toppers on it myself, after i picked the cake up but she told me to calm down and that she would handle it and make me an aweosme cake. When i picked my son's cake up i was so happy!! I couldn't wait to show him!! It exceeding my biggest expectations!! I couldn't believe how awesome it was and neither could anyone else at his party. So, considering that this Piggly Wiggly does a solid job for its size and location I give it a 4. It has pretty much everything you need and a little bit more. I enjoy this location much more than the one on clairmont. There's actually a meat counter, and the beer area is more inviting (this really is important). Generally speaking, their selection is much better than other Piggly Wiggly stores I have visited. Oh, and they also have a craft beer tasting once a week. I'm new to the area and was told their deli has amazing food. I stopped in at 12:15 and was greeted by the friendly store manager. We briefly spoke and I told him I was recommend by my friends at work . The store was nice , clean and well organized. The check out was quick and all the employees were so friendly. It reminded me of my little hometown store back in Florida. Oh almost forgot - the food was delicious from the deli. I had meatloaf, rice & gravy with turnips and cornbread.
