We had just had lunch and decided to try this grocery store. Across the street is a huge Kroger that you get lost in and the parking lot is always crowded and busy. So, we decided to try Publix across the street. They have ample parking. It wasn't so crowded and they had everything nicely organized. The staff were friendly when we couldn't find things and the cashier was personable. I would go back here again. The only reason I gave it four stars is they did not have sunflower oil, which is something I think is pretty basic. read more

Was yelled at by a cashier, I guess because I touched my bananas during the self checkout. He removed the item and made me redo it in front of him--was really strange and uncomfortable AND the price was the same so I don't think it was that. Customer service at this store is just weird. read more

I walked out of this place googling how to report a place to the FDA. I LOVE Publix as a franchise and I hate that this location is destroying the Publix name. I went to get a Publix sub, I stood in line and noticed something moving in the corner we of my eye. I saw a few fly buzzing around in the bread pile (not a box that closes but just an open area where bread sits). I look and I see a couple of flies. I really wanted the sub though, I came all the way. I asked the lady behind the counter if there was any other bread they could use for the sandwich that was sealed and not open. I told her I saw flies in the bread. She did seem shocked there were flies. But when she shook the box so many more flies than I saw originally buzzed around. Very disgusting. She told me there was no other bread they could use. So I left. Not a great experience. I feel like Publix also sells packaged bread so I think the whole situation could have been handled better and they could have offered to use that. I wonder what happened after I left. There were people behind me in line. When I was leaving the lady was shouting to her coworkers that I saw flies in the bread but I heard nothing beyond that. There needs to be a safe way to store the bread. This system is not sanitary. read more

3 stars is for design set up & location .. i would not recommend coming here if you think you would be mistreated because of color... The workers behind the deli are either unhappy/unfriendly or are programmed to mistreat people of color... First & Last time at this location & i'm sure they won't mind... I would still like to acknowledge how dope the set up is from the garage entry to neat elevators & stairway .. The upstairs looks like a store in a mall .. This location seems bigger than the one on Mechanicaville Turnpike but i never had mistreatment there .. The Deli staff wasn't horrible to my taste but after being in VA for years i can directly tell when i'm not one of them & how it seems to be thrown to the back .. I was offered a sample which i declined because i already knew what i wanted prior too .. Huge fan of Publix in general, and their excellent customer service. This location needs some help. Elevators need a deep cleaning. They switched to smaller coffee cups, but didn't adjust the machine, so the coffee just spills all over, and the machine drips. No napkins in sight. Clean it up! read more

I've been to this Publix several times and I'd say it's my preferred location in the Richmond area. Situated on the second floor of Carytown Exchange, the store is spacious, clean, and well-stocked. I love their freshly made Italian hoagies in particular. I like that it's easy to park despite being in Carytown too. read more

This is where I do my grocery shopping now, but it could be better. There were no shopping carts today, and the meat selection is never very good. With that said, I don't have to check myself out at a self-service register and Publix has a pretty good app with a lot of coupons and savings. read more

This location is pretty new. Maybe a year or so. We enter from across the Starbucks. The street that leads into Carytown. We park at the top of the parking garage. We are in and out easily. This store is so clean. The pricing is meh. Somethings are worth it other Meg, you can get it cheaper elsewhere. You may have to ask yourself if it is even worth the drive and gas. The staff here have always been good. Some even strike up a conversation with you. The selection of products is nice too. A selection of vegan, gluten free ect. The produce section makes me drool. Sometimes they have those rare items. read more

I really wanted to like this store. It's been on the way for so long, with such ambitious plans demolishing Martin's/Ukrop's and rebuilding from scratch, unlike the other Publix locations that moved into existing spaces. Plus you've got to root for a place whose grand opening happens during a pandemic. Such bold moves in a corner already saturated with grocery options! So why is this spiffy new Publix the last grocery I'll check (after Kroger, Ellwood, and Fresh Market) in the area? All four times I've visited, I haven't found what I came for -- items that are in stock according to the Publix app. While the store is robustly staffed, the staff aren't always helpful. More than once I've had to ask them to move out of the way when they're chatting in front of something I'm shopping for. Another time, the eager pandemic salad bar attendant pounced on me for trying to get a closer look at the wilted greens. Folks, there's a reason all the other stores dispensed with their salad bars. Despite the potentially airy space, the cold, muted lighting casts a pall over everything, giving the impression of a windowless space. It's surprising how little effect the windows do have. This effect is exacerbated by the store being upstairs, where my phone service cuts out, so I always have to log into the store wifi if I want to check something. It's worth mentioning that the Publix app has less utility than other grocers' (e.g., Kroger, Whole Foods) apps. While it gives in-store locations for items, it does not provide prices, though it does let you clip coupons and other offers. Publix has a reputation for being expensive, and this one didn't disappoint. Everything on my list cost at least a dollar more than at the absolutely packed Kroger a next block over, without the local flavor of Ellwood Thompson's or the upscale warmth of The Fresh Market. The one bright spot seems to be the legendary Publix deli. Literally, the deli is well lit. And every time I've passed it, there's a customer there. I prefer to make my own sandwiches, so I won't be one of them. read more

Infad is an excellent manager who was here to save my morning shopping! I have visited this Publix store several times now, and it has quickly become my favourite go-to for morning Coffee and shopping needs! Here is by what metric do I give my complete 5-star approval. 1. Dedicated in-building parking lot provides shade for my car 2. Free 32A J1772 Commercial Electric Vehicle charger and charge your EV! 3. The lobby is always SHINY clean 4. The music is clean (non-explicit) and at the correct 'background' volume that makes it there to enjoy, but quiet enough to focus on your conversations with your mate 5. I have met several of the staff members and all were extremely pleasant, polite, from the Cashier, to Customer Service, to the Deli. read more

Carytown - Richmond VA. I'm sick to death of being treated like I'm invisible every time I go to the deli or hot case. Every time. They make eye contact and then ignore the customer. Not even "Someone will be with you in a minute." Today the young man at the deli counter was on his phone with his back to the counter. The young woman who finally helped me at the hot case put down the broom she was using to clean the floor and proceeded to take food out of the hot case without changing her gloves. There was no manager to be seen (probably in one of the 11 huddles they have every day.) There have been two times when I have literally yelled, "Hey! Could I get some help?!" These are the higher paid workers and they do the worst jobs. I know that you're short-staffed, I know workers don't show up and don't call, but it's the management's job to make sure this doesn't affect the customers. read more

My positive comments: I recently bought a custom theme cake from the bakery at this Publix store. The outside decorations on the cake were exactly what I requested on my order. My negative comments: The cake itself was not what I ordered. I requested a vanilla-chocolate combo cake flavor and a lemon raspberry cake filling. Instead, I got only a vanilla cake with a lemon cake filling. No one told me and nowhere on the copy of my order form did it indicate that substitutions would be made if the bakery didn't have all ingredients available to make the cake as ordered. This was unacceptable in light of the fact that I ordered the cake on a Monday and didn't pick it up until Friday of the same week. This allowed plenty of time for the bakery to either get the ingredients needed to make the cake as ordered, or contact me to let me know they needed to make substitutions. My score: I gave this cake 3 out of 5 stars. The decoration on the cake was perfect and the cake was very moist and good (excluding the not so great lemon filling). However, I was very disappointed by the substitutions that were made without notification and my consent, and the option to cancel the order if I didn't want the substitutions. read more

Shopping really is a pleasure here. Sometimes when I don't feel like dealing with Kroger's parking lot I come here. It's so convenient because there's always parking and you are right by the door. The fried chicken here is really good, the store is so clean and there's plenty of space. I like coming here for those reasons. I know it's expensive ish, but it's good for picking up a few things now and then. read more

The garage parking at this location is very convenient. The store seems exceptionally clean. Normal selection of foods expected at a supermarket. Not a real Publix fan and this one looks so out of place in historic Carytown. Prices seem to be at least 15% higher than all other grocery stores. They do carry a full line of Ukrops food. I think that's the number one reason why so many in the area dig Publix. Not worth the high prices, in my opinion. read more

We have a nice new grocery store in Cary Town called Publix. I've been there twice recently after shopping at Kroger across the street ever since I moved to Richmond. When I walked it, I was not sure what to expect? Thinking that Kroger being right across the street and being established in the neighborhood for years, maybe Publix wold put a spin on their store to draw in more customers? Maybe a large produce section or bakery as an example. I went there to buy a steak and I was surprised at how small the meat department was, along with the limited selections. So, the million dollar question? Would I go back? Does the new Publix have enough draw as a new store to transfer my grocery budget from Kroger to them? If you asked me yesterday, I would have said maybe. If you asked me today, I would tell you HELL NO! Just like I will never give the My Pillow guy a penny of my hard earned money, I also plan to never eat a single Goyo bean. It was reported that Julie Jenkins Fancelli, the daughter to the family who own the grocery store chain, has donated a lot of money to the Trump train. Most recently, she donated $300K towards the event that took place on Jan 6th with all of the crazies and wack jobs at the US Capital. Knowing that I will never set foot in a Publix chain even if its the only store around for miles. Goes to show that money can't buy common sense or intelligence. If she wants to support such a loser, then she does not deserve my business. read more

I really wanted to like this grocery store but You can't beat the Kroger prices and discounts. I feel like everything here is overpriced (they do price match) but imagine have 18 grocery items and making them price match all of that. It's very time consuming. I would rather go to Kroger. This place is shiny and new and the customer service is excellent as well as the cleanliness. There is always someone wiping down carts and someone around to help guide customers. Personally for me I won't shop here for everything because of the high prices. read more

This is one of the best grocery stores around my area when it comes to quality of food. Hands down great food. But the customer service is terrible! The attendants at the self checkout are Usually very rude and inattentive. One specific blond woman seems to be intentionally rude. It seems as though she despises her job. 3rd time going to deli and having a problem, first one was with cooked fried chicken being fried, feathers and all...YUK! 2nd one was the potatoe salad went in the trash...was bad even tho date was not expired and then this last time i bought some sandwich cold cuts that were SOUR AND HAD AN ODOR! ARE YOU GUYS TRYING TO GIVE SOMEONE FOOD POISONING? OMG! That can literally kill someone one! Then also I bought a jar of condiments by the olives and pickles and it leaked all over my bag which indicates it was NOT CLOSED! In the past I have found MANY out of date items as well so BE SURE TO CHECK THE DATES ON ITEMS!
