For an upscale grocer, this market definitely deserves 5 stars. From the moment you walk in, your eyes are welcomed with a gorgeous display of flowers, from the humble daisy to the exotic orchid. The produce department is fresh, well stocked and beautiful. Everything is organized and clean. Organic or conventional, your choice. I love the coffee section, the aroma arrests your nostrils and you want to stay here forever. The selections are numerous and I even picked up a hard to find Louisiana coffee: Cafe Du Monde. The cheese case is glorious! From average to pricey cheeses, a cheese tray from this store is sure to draw raves! It's quite extensive. I like the Champagne cheese! The prepared foods and the deli are incredible as well, I often pop in to grab a salad for lunch! I literally could go on and on. No, this may not be your everyday grocer, although they do have the usual staples, but this experience is a treat and a splurge! Always impeccable service and beautifully appointed, this store is without parallel.

Fresh fruits and veggies.

I don't normally review grocery store / department store type places, but I find myself going to The Fresh Market and leaving pleased every time. For those who haven't been here, The Fresh Market is a grocery store that has some of the normal things you'd find at any grocery store along with seasonal, local, natural, and otherwise novelty items. Things that I like about Fresh Market: ------------------------------------------------- - The baked goods are pretty good. They have a fresh muffin section that has items like corn muffins, blueberry muffins, and the like. The corn muffins are delicious and my fiancee has went back for more chocolate chip muffins. Today we tried a cheese and herb focaccia bread and it was also good! The apple cinnamon donut holes were good too! I haven't tried the cookies or cakes but they look pretty good. - Seasonal Items: At Halloween they had some interesting Halloween candy items and a different spread of candy than they normally do. Now they have Christmas and Thanksgiving items. And to clarify, it's not just holiday foods, it's also trinkets, gift items, and other novelties. I think part of the appeal is you can come here every other week and the store looks completely different. - Snack items you can't find most places: Things like Unique Pretzel Shells and Organic Sunny Bears to name a couple. - The variety of items: Sometimes when you go to a store you know a couple things that you need, but end up finding some neat things you had no intention of getting. I've ended up with items from their aisles that caught my interest like soups and frozen burritos. - The sliced deli meat and ground meats: We've gotten some deli meats here and some ground turkey that were pretty good. Can't really speak for some of the steaks and other items. Things I don't like about Fresh Market: --------------------------------------------------- - Identical items are occasionally cheaper at other stores. Fresh Market does have some "normal" grocery items like Tostitos Corn Chips in addition to their line of chips and different varieties, and items like Tostitos are a bit more expensive than say, Kroger. Not dollars different of course, but things like 20 cents can add up. - The flavor variety of individual items can vary quite a bit. If you have a methodical grocery list with specific flavors you may run into some issues. Things I don't have clear opinions on yet: ------------------------------------------------------ - The fresh dinner foods and lunches. They, like most other grocery stores, have "build a lunch" and a la carte items you can purchase pre-made and then eat them. I haven't tried them yet, but the panini sandwiches, chicken, and wraps look good. Overall ---------- I really like Fresh Market. The availability of their items and layout of the store changes seemingly frequently, so if you have a definitive shopping list of items you must get, you might not be able to get by with just here alone. That said, the seasonal items and variety is actually what appeals to me because every time you go there the experience is a little different. I'm a fan.

I had to get it even though it was WAY over priced.

Totally disappointed that the items here are WAY over priced! Product was ridiculously over priced. You can literally go to Walmart across the street and they have many of the same items for $2+ less. All the produce and asian ingredients I purchased was much cheaper for the exact same item!! I will not be returning. Cashier wasn't friendly either...

One of my favorite stores!! They have the Big Meal Deal! A four person meal for $20! Not to many places have raw nuts, but they do!!!

I ordered a burger while I perused the sections. The marinated large white beans in vinaigrette had me searching the recipe so I could try to make them myself until I can get back to the store! By the time I checked out, my burger and fries were ready. AND LET ME SAY...it was an incredible burger!! The fries were pretty salty but they were hot and delicious. They also have a nice wine section, gourmet cheeses and meats....charcuterie board, please!

I've been coming since about 2010 and I love how much it has evolved and now boasts 3 locations in the heart of the city! the Patterson location boasts the famous lunch counter - with Hans on the grill, you can't go wrong - and the newest addition...breakfast! My obsession - the best soft shell sammy on the coast! It's perfectly fried (not too hard, not too light) and the arugula & aioli pair nicely to make this lunch so memorable. Do like I did & find a spot in the water to enjoy. The market, itself, is my favorite - the fishmongers & butchers behind the counter are so kind and boast a wealth of knowledge to answer questions about sourcing, food prep, and pretty much anything you throw their way. I love the expansion they've done since Covid - it gives you so much space to shop, roam, and even pull up a chair & eat.

Nick's is owned by several Nicks. Nick Nolte, Nic Cage, Nick Kruschev and Nick Elodeon. Mr. Elodeon…read moresays that kids love Nicks because of all the cartoons. I have no idea what that means, but they have good sandwiches. What to get: A Prosciutto sandwich with Fresh Mozzarella added, maybe What else: Expect an upcharge to add Fresh Mozz How to improve: Don't upcharge so much for Fresh Mozz (sigh) Nick's is a little run-down grocery store which sort-of feels like walking into a check-cashing shop or an urban convenience store that just happens to have a wonderful old-school NY-NJ style Italian deli inside. The deli itself is great, and makes a lot of awesome sandwiches for decent prices. As I said, I don't like the weird upcharges for certain ingredients, but so be it. It makes the prices of a sandwich soar from decent to ridiculous. The sandwiches aren't altogether authentic Italian NY-NJ style, but they are very good. I loved the parts of it that I had fresh, however when I had the rest of the sandwich a little later it had gotten extremely squidgy and soggy because they use a regular loaf of bread rather than anythng hard or Italian. Again, makes it less authentic but still very tasty. Despite these remarks, I haven't had a sandwich this good in the Richmond area before, so you should give it a try. And if it were Niche Produce, then they'd only sell unusual and hard to get hipster vegetables and sandwiches. Whereas if it wer Nix Produce, it would close down soon. And if it were Knickers Produce then I would have torn them down a lot more quickly and intensely than I did in this review.

sausage. plump, juicy, flavorful sausage. who doesn't love it? (vegetarians, please don't answer…read morethat.) i had the pleasure of touring the sausage craft facility this past weekend and was lucky enough to sample and walk away with some goods. sausage craft is a new wholesale food workshop that believes locally-raised livestock provides better-tasting meats, something i find very few people can argue with. chris mattera ("the sausage guy" as their website boasts) has been into sausage longer than his (business) partner, brad hemp ("the sales guy"). i haven't had the pleasure of meeting chris, but brad is beyond knowledgeable and embraces the fact that he has to live with copious amounts of sausage jokes for the rest of his life. now, only after several months, they've crafted (no pun intended) 15 different types of sausages and local markets and restaurants have welcomed their meaty delights with open arms. (really trying to refrain from obvious jokes here.) during my visit, i got to try their hot italian sausage (with loads of chili flake and fennel) and the carmelina's (coarsely-ground lean pork with a little heat, slightly dried, and flavored with a rare regional italian pepper). when i got back to dc, i was still craving brad's sausage, so i cooked up some hot chorizo and della nonna (coarse-ground pork with white wine, pecorino cheese, and parsley). they can't do wrong! i have a couple more in my freezer i haven't tried yet..and i'm sitting here thinking of what to make for dinner this week. the aftershock of my visit? brunch yesterday was a disaster. brad ruined sausage for me forever. i don't want anyone's sausage but his. i'm going to have to plan trips to richmond every month or so to pick up exorbitant amounts of sausage from now on. okay, okay. all jokes aside, sausage craft's sausage is made from humanely-raised meat without any added hormones, antibiotics or steroids. no preservatives. no synthetic casings. they also do custom orders, so if you're looking for a particular meat or style, brad and chris will work with you to produce an amazing end result. it's about as good as it gets.

I used to buy my Chorizo and Linguica at Kroger. Kroger stopped selling the authentic sausage and…read morestarted selling the Sausage Craft products. The Sausage Craft didn't look right. I broke down over the weekend and bought a package of Chorizo. First, It was more expensive. Second, the sausage was in a thin casing that looked sterile. You could tell the meat was not attached to the casing and if you pressed on it, the meat product moved freely back and forth. Yes, the sausage was soft. Third I tried to cook it, both sliced and as a link. Neither went well. Trying to cut the sausage into pieces was like pushing down on a tube of toothpaste with openings at both ends. When cooking the whole links, I tried to cut the links in half to brown the one curved side, the casing broke and it was like goop in the pan. I did try to eat a piece after cooking. The sausage was mushy. There was some meat, but no flavor. Then the goop came in and you got the flavor. It reminded me of watching a special where they stuffed a Tofurky. It appears, like some other brands, that there is meat and a generic goop. The difference in the types of sausage isn't the meat, but the flavors/seasonings put into the goop. I will not be buying any sausage from Kroger again. I certainly will never waste $10 on one pound of this straight to the kitchen garbage can product again.
