Stella's was a great spot to start a fun day of co-working and exploring in downtown Richmond. My colleague and I were having breakfast next door at Perly's, and stopped into Stella's for a couple of iced cherry blossom lattes to get the day started in style. This little shop is full of Richmond cuteness. From specialty groceries, to locally-made art, to unique gifts and treasures, I could easily have filled my suitcase with goodies. I ended up buying a gorgeous postcard here (designed by a local artist) - the design featured the coffee shops of Richmond. Of course, I forgot to take a pic (who me?) but it was adorbs. The latte was delish, too! I don't usually like cherry-flavored things, but on a warm morning this was the perfect touch. The edible flowers made it just that much more delightful. read more

I am a fan of Stella's Grocery. They're always in the area when I need an afternoon pick me up or a cute gift. I usually come to this location for coffee, specifically coffee during a long wait at Perly's next door. I love their coffee options. This is an intimate/smaller Stella's Grocery, but it has all the local goods the others have packed in. There is a good amount of seating at the front too. You can order your coffee drinks at the front. They also have all the standard Stella's Greek food to go options. At the very front you're greeted by cute Richmond souvenirs and gifts. They have favorites in store like Nightingale Ice Cream sandwiches, Blanchard's coffee beans, Mad Kitchen Co. postcards, and more. I'd recommend getting a drink from here! read more

I had heard good things about this place, so when walking by one I stopped in. They do a very nice job with their coffee offerings, whether traditional or the "novelty" items - I liked my Americano! Perfect go-to convenience store in downtown Richmond - can't believe it took me so long to find this spot! --------------------------------- Food: they have a lot of the same food from Stella's restaurant but in to-go containers, it's perfect for when you run out of food or don't feel like cooking. It's convenience food but it tastes so fresh like a home made meal. I recommend the salmon dishes, moussaka, lasagna, zoodles, and kale salad Recommendations: Their dessert section is a hidden gem in Richmond! You can't go wrong with any of their desserts but my favorite are the tiramisu (SO GOOD), blueberry cheesecake/other cheesecakes. Grabbed a few things from here on 4/9 and most of it was good. The store was clean and a nice vibe. The staff was nice. The wrap I got was really good and fresh, and we tried a dessert that was amazing. I live pretty far from the city and had picked up some pimento cheese to take home. Unfortunately it was moldy. When I saw this I turned the container over and there was a sticker with a sell by date of 3/26... If I ever go back I'll make sure to look for those on everything. read more

For delicious grab-&-go or freshly prepared Greek food, you have got to come to Stella's! The downtown location is really convenient for anyone who works in the city if you need a quick lunch of something to take home for dinner. The counter and pantry sections have so many choices for yummy snacks or a cup of coffee to take to start your morning. I particularly love their Zoodles dish and farro bowls but everything is super tasty and homemade. They have a large variety of premade dishes, like pastas, rice dishes, salads, & more. Stella's also has dips, sauces, soups, grilled proteins, and side dishes. I highly recommend any of their hummus or tzatziki varieties. However, don't overlook their desserts! My personal favorites are the magic bar, which features milk & white chocolate chips, coconut, sweetened condensed milk on top of a graham cracker crust. So I'm close to the location on Hull street which I think is fairly new but is luckily a walking distance from my house! This is my third time coming in and I usually get the chai tea with almond milk, I mean clearly I love this place cause I can't help but keep coming back. The first time I came in was just on a whim, I was out for a neighborhood walk and decided to check this market place out as I've been meaning to for a while now, and I'm so glad I did! I love the atmosphere, and the music is totally my vibe just saying! They have all fresh salads, pastas, wines, cheese, meats, coffee I mean whoever thought of this concept is genius! Not to mention the Continental restaurant is right through a doorway in the market so once you're done shopping here in the market you can go over next door and have brunch/lunch/dinner. I actually wanted to try one of their pastas and picked up the Greek pasta with chicken and let me tell you it's enough for two people, very flavorful and worth every penny, I also got some kind of pastry with feta and spinach, TO DIE FOR!! That's not an exaggeration, please try it when you go. Before I end this I cannot forget to mention the customer service which I am very big on, the ladies who I've met that work here are always so helpful, and extremely personable. When I had questions I always received answers with a smile and a very friendly attitude, never got the feeling like they wanted me to hurry and leave! Lol ha! We were waiting to get into the breakfast spot next door when we were in Richmond for a weekend a few weeks ago, and they suggested we go next door to Stella's while we waited. I'm glad they did! Stella's is a grocery but also a cafe and a coffee shop? It's cute, the coffee was good, and the products they sell were great-looking. I love the Stella's chain, but this location seems to have fairly awkward service and less stock than the others. I've lived a few blocks down in all the time since it's been open, but I've only visited a handful of times. The grocery prices are pretty steep, and each time I visit, it tends to be a high bill even for just a few items. And the staff has been nice but a bit cold too. I don't feel any sense of job satisfaction from them. I think downtown needs more grocery stores that offer basic necessities for affordable prices. You won't find that here. You will find select quality items that can be enjoyed every now and again...unless you're rich. Fortunately I'm moving close to the Scott's Addition location soon. I definitely prefer their full menu of hot items. read more

Cute little grocery shop with food and items from local merchants. They have everything from bottles of wine to fun gifts to coffee beans and prepared foods. We went specifically to pick up Nightingale's Ice Cream... we picked up two and they were perfect! The best part was the warm hospitality from the store clerks. read more

I just discovered this location while waiting for a table at Perly's Deli next door. They have two other locations, one in Scott's Addition on Rosneath and One in Malvern Gardens on Lafayette St. They sell fresh upscale prepared foods, like Turkey, Ham & Leg of Lamb. They include all the sides like stuffing, creamed potatoes, collard greens, brussels sprouts, turkey gravy and cranberries. They have Greek, Kale and Spinach salads. Everything you would need to a great Thanksgiving meal. Of course you must order on their web site in advance. They also have a great selection of dry goods, a cooler with specialty beverages and ingredients for all type of meals. A great store front with tables and chairs as well. The SO went here for something super quick (totally forgot what it was.) But I really wanted to check it out for myself since there's a huge lack of any type of "grocery stores" in Richmond, which is a possibility the worst thing about this city... I knew about this place for a while (when it was Kholmann's), but didn't have the need to visit. So what's this place all about?! It's similar to Union Market. You have your small grocery store section, then you have the area where they make sandwiches/salads. It's that but on a smaller footprint. Though it doesn't look like they cook things right on the spot for you. But it could still be made in house and they just heat it up once someone orders it. They have a place for you to sit and enjoy whatever meal you get from the counter, right next to it, a small wine selection. Which is nice in case you need something for dinner that night. Then about a handful of shelves for groceries and freezers for desserts, drinks, wine and beer. In the front of Stella's is the counter, with muffins, pastries and meals ready to be heat up, or to be taken home cold. We got two things from here, Chocolate Mousse Pie ($4.99) and the Turkey Lafayette ($9.99) (and an expensive bottle of vanilla extract and hichews). The Turkey Lafayette is a bit expensive for a panini.... but it was just enough for us at the time. The shining star here is the Chocolate Mousse Pie. Bought it on a whim and the SO and I enjoyed it. The chocolate is rich and the crust is crunchy. Couldn't ask for more really. This isn't a bad place to grab a quick meal before going home or work. But with Perly's next door, kinda defeats the purpose of the counter area. They do serve coffee, so I can see this being a place where you can get a cup and jet. It's good for people that lives in the city and just way too far from the Kroger, Farm Fresh and Ellwood Thompson. While on a walk, I saw the door to Stella's Grocery was open so I popped in. Very excited to find it was chock full of great stuff for anyone and everyone. Beer, wine, desserts, meals, snacks, treats, and all look fantastic. I got a few dinners and desserts to bring home along with some wine. Who needs to go out when you can bring quality like this to the the comforts of home? The pastas were wonderful. The magic bar was... magical (had to). The lemon bar was perfect. I mean it. Ok to clarify I do understand that I'm downtown. A $10 sandwich is not a shock but the panini I just ate was at best a bread sandwich. One slice of deli meat a slice of cheese and two pieces of bread. They also let people waiting to eat at Pearlys sit at the few tables they have. Good place to wait not so great to eat in. read more

I just wanted to send a message with constructive criticism, but there appears to be no way to do that, and people who have asked questions on the FB page have gotten no response, so it's a review. I went into the downtown location today and found 0 vegan hot food options, which was disappointing but not remarkable. I then noticed a couple cold pre-made bowls, one of which was labeled "vegan" in the title but contained honey in the ingredients. Not having good vegan options is one thing, but mislabeling things as vegan is not acceptable. Please be more careful with your labeling (or make sure you understand what "vegan" is), or maybe even consider having more options. Vegans: check the ingredients twice, or maybe just go elsewhere. read more
