I had several people ask if they could help me find items, the deli lady made a special order for me, and the cashier was pleasant. Yay! We have a Publix in the neighborhood. What a treat to have such a well-stocked store with tons of prepared food options, a Starbucks, great selection of international foods, seafoods, meats, wine, beer and a super friendly staff. We've been watching the progress as they've completely transformed what was a tired Martins Grocery store into this lovely, fresh and inviting store. Several weeks ago I found chicken thighs in a Publix that were supposed to be ready to cook, not frozen. I opened the pack of chicken thighs (Publix brand). One side was so frozen I had to let them thaw. They were not ready to cook. Today I went into Publix (John Rolfe) and found chicken thighs. This time I bought Greenwise. Two of the thighs had a little ice on the back side. It would seem to me the packaging and the presentation of the packs should not hide the icy parts just so they can be sold. My overall experience in this store was good. Usually I have no issues. I will say that I had a Publix issue today. I always pay using the Publix App. I cannot tell you how difficult it is to do this when I have been logged out of the app. Publix needs to pay more attention to the accessibility of the Publix Pay. I paid for my groceries and left. I logged into the Publix App. later on. I had to update my password. Publix needs to update their technology so that the app. and Publix pay is user friendly. Always a nice store/people, but the deli counter is also always agony -- lots of employees passing through, but only one person (maximally two) serving customers, no matter how many customers are in line. And it is just a consistent problem. Maybe management should spend some time watching the deli! read more

Since moving to Richmond a few years ago, DH and I have complained that Richmond is a grocery desert. We were excited about Wegman's coming to town, but who wants to drive that far? So it is Publix to the rescue! Good variety of things. Competitively priced. Good locations. Lovely prepared foods (if you need that kind of thing in a pinch), good bakery, butcher, and produce. As it's grand opening was on August 19th (yesterday), Publix is still in new supermarket mode. New supermarket mode can manifest in a couple different ways: crazy chaos or super friendliness. Mercifully, this Publix fell into the latter. Store staff was out in force with free samples, helpful suggestions and earnest smiles. I imagine that after this opening weekend is over, those folks will still be there and still be just as good at their job. The prepared foods, sushi and all the other things you'd expect from Publix (a supermarket definitely on the high quality side of the bell curve) will still be tasty. I actually look forward to going to the grocery store! The employees are over the top friendly. They remember you and always go out of their way to say hi. Seafood department is great and steam some outstanding shrimp! Cakecakes are delicious and easy to prepare. Produce is fresh. Bakery items are totally melt in your mouth! I went there tonight before an event and the store is well laid out and staff are friendly. Some of their organic veggies though are higher priced than Whole Food. I'm thinking dandelion greens at nearly $5.00....they are like $3 at Whole Foods and often on special at WF. The Romaine is more expensive but looks nice. I've got a pet rabbit and unlike Walmart and food lion, Kroger, this Publix doesn't carry anything(no Timothy hay, small animal treats), so they aren't as good as the other food stores I've been to for small animal foods and some produce prices. read more

Update... I reached out to corporate about their expired product issue. I received some tepid response back. We went a couple of weeks ago and still an issue with expired products. We literally bought some stuff earlier that day and it was bad. In addition, the prices for produce is very high. You can pay similar prices at Whole Foods for the produce and meat and the quality is far superior. read more

Best grocery store in Short Pump! The best deals, extremely friendly and helpful associates, everything is fresh and delicious! I can't believe the differences in Publix stores throughout Richmond. The John Rolfe Parkway store is the absolute best! Great and caring staff! The Short Pump store ( before Publix), used to be the best store around but once Publix opened at a Short Pump it's not very good at all. There are a few friendly staff but there are some that act like you are bothering them. Selection of items is very limited ( the floral department is a joke!). I have seen better arrangement and deals in gas station! The John Rolfe store is soooo much better! Great deals, fresh items & always served with a smile! read more

We have shopped between Publix and Kroger for about one year. Everytime we go to Publix there is something I cannot get. Today I went in for Maitake mushrooms and they don't have them. I went to get some Tate cookies with chocolate chips and walnuts, they don't have them. (Plain only). Their avacados are more than at Krogers as are their small pork loin roasts. Today I looked at the small pork roasts and they were $12.00-$13.00 each. I used to get them at Kroger for $5-7 each. Two weeks ago we wanted potato skins, large box, and there were none. (Back in today). Few good sales, especially on white canned tuna. Going back to Kroger. read more

We have ordered subs several times. Sometimes online and it's never right! I put instructions about what to add and the kind of bread. It is NEVER right. I'm not sure how it can be wrong when the instructions are written. If we order at the counter it also takes forever! read more

I've been willing to pay a little extra to shop at Publix so I can have an easier and more pleasant shopping experience. However, today marked the second time that I discovered expired food as soon as I got home. I bought three large yogurts, two of which had expired ***over two weeks ago***. When I called up to see if they could refund my credit card remotely, they said I had to come back to the store in order to get my refund. I find it ridiculous that a store that charges much higher prices than every other store can't even do basic quality control to get expired items off their shelves or refund customers remotely when things like this happen. If I want to be treated like a Walmart shopper, I may as well just go to Walmart and pay lower prices. Get your act together, Publix. read more

The grocery store itself is fine, but the deli is more poorly run than any I've seen in the past. Every time I order a sandwich it takes forever to place my order, then they never have anything prepared. Once I ordered a buffalo chicken flatbread and they had to ask me if it looks like it's supposed to!?!? I'm standing here waiting on a sub now, these people are clueless read more

I have started shopping here more frequently for several reasons - Publix produce is great - fresh peaches were juicy and sweet while at Wegmans they were dried out and brownish. Prices on a number of items I buy have dropped in price since this Publix opened. It is so much easier to shop here than at other stores which saves time and frustration. I also save money because I am not loading up on expensive extras I find at Wegmans. Only downside is sushi, Wegmans sushi is by far the best, with Kroger a second. read more

I go to this store about 3 or 4 times a week, the staff is always incredibly helpful and friendly. It's very neat, clean and well organized. The deli makes pretty good subs, but some of the employees don't get the recipes correct (I've recieved the wrong type of ham on the Havana Bold and no bacon on the Jerk Turkey & Gouda) so pay attention while they're assembling your sandwiches. The only major complaint that I have is that I've repeatedly bought expired products from here. I've bought expired cream cheese 3 times, expired mustard once, and expired yogurt once. Only once on the last 2 items because now I check the expiration date on everything that I purchase from this store. Which is enough of a hassle that I much prefer going to a different store if I need more than 1 or 2 items. On my most recent visit, I purchased expired yogurt and luckily remembered to check the date as I was leaving. I told the employee and the self check out and went to go grab another pack that wasn't expired, and found that the first 12 cases of this particular yogurt in the fridge were all expired as well! If you shop here out of convenience like I often do, just remember to check the dates on EVERYTHING you buy because apparently the employees here don't pull outdated products from the shelves. read more

This store continues to provide the lowest possible customer service. When this was a Ukrops and even after it became a Martins, the management understood that the Cafe was a Cafe where folks came for a quick bite to eat. The management and cashiers do not want you to stay and eat here. They make the experience as undesirable as possible, from not having cashiers working the Cafe at dinner hours to cashiers wandering around looking lost, not checking customers out to arguing with customers about bagging food that is to be consumed at the Cafe. Hey PUBLIX! If you don't want to run a Cafe do us all the favor of shutting down completely so I don't make the mistake of giving you my money again. read more

I am wanting to like Publix because their staff is trying to go the extra mile and their store is attractive. Bottom line though is variety of products and their prices. Their variety is slightly better than Food Lion (although I can find flank and flat iron steak at Food Lion), but nowhere near Kroger or Wegmans. I see better pricing at all three of their competitors with some of their offerings (compare Starbucks coffee) way out of whack. Yes, they are cheaper than Whole Foods, but that is not where you shop for general groceries. read more
