Omg!! I never thought I'd get excited about a grocery store! This market has so much to offer and items are reasonably priced! I love to cook "exotic" dishes, and I could find all of ingredients here. The aisles are labeled so things are easy to find. There's plenty of staff to help you as well. They even have a restaurant type place inside. We took a look at the menu, and it seemed like they offer lots. It smelled delicious! The fruit selection was so huge and was fresh. I have been to New Grand Mart a couple of times because my friend who lives in Ashland wanted some mushrooms. I'm not from here. Back home in Houston, I know the only place to find good variety is at Asian supermarkets. So, I searched on Yelp. Here we are. I couldn't believe New Grand Mart has almost all mushroom varieties in the Asian markets: fresh Shiitake Mushrooms, Oyster Mushrooms, King Oyster Mushrooms (hardiest kind), White Beech Mushrooms, Brown Beech Mushrooms, Snow White Mushrooms aka Seafood Mushroom, Enoki (good for grilling), Wood Ear Mushrooms aka black fungus 黑木耳 (incredible meat texture), Baby Bella Mushrooms and Button Mushrooms. The only thing I didn't see was portobello Mushrooms. I immediately noticed the clientele was mixed ethnicity. Wow, the store was playing Spanish music and there were aisles of Hispanic products. So, I concluded that New Grand Mart is a truly an international supermarket. Definitely a good place to share my food culture knowledge by bringing people from other areas to come explore. read more

There are items sold there that cannot be purchased anywhere else. I've never seen so many difficult to find peppers, both fresh and dried.

If you can turn off your nose to the sometime off putting smell upon entering, this grocery store is the place you want to visit if you are looking to expand your food experience! There is an aisle dedicated for each of a number of world foods from Latin to Korean cuisine. While I consider myself fairly attuned to Latin food, I was astounded at the number of items there for which I had never heard of. The frozen section is similar, but on a smaller scale. In exploring the fruit and veggie section became enamored with the fresh papaya offered that had already be cleaned of skin, as well a wide range of root vegetables, including some of the yuccas I've ever seen. I found the team there to be agreeable and helpful in finding nuggets hidden away somewhere in the store. For me, it has been a leading factor in my dealing with the traffic of Broad St. to more frequently travel out to the West End. read more

Stopped by to see what they had to offer and was so pleased with the selection. If there's a difficult to find ingredient you're looking for, they probably have it. I was very pleased with the produce selection. I was able to grab everything that I was looking for without having to bounce from market to market to find them like usual. Burro bananas, culantro, oyster mushrooms, fresh lychees(if you could smell these lychees-so good) and so much more were readily available. If you enjoy cooking, this is a must stop. read more

What a gem for fruit and veg! I am always pleased with the variety, quality, and prices! Honestly, you could do all of your produce shopping here, and you'd probably save money compared to mainstream grocery stores. The snacks and sauces are great. If you're out of your element and don't speak the language on the packaging, fear not, you can use Google Lens to help you! Just download the Google app and it'll translate things. Or be adventurous! Try a new snack! The frozen dumplings section is A+! Lots to choose from. I admittedly haven't tried the meat and seafood, and I am a little intimidated by the smell of the fish. It is very powerful, but everything looks clean. So maybe it's just a ventilation thing. This is definitely my favorite Asian mart in the area! read more

Very disappointed first time visit. Their produce department, usually the main attraction in international foods grocery chains like this one, was a major disappointment. The mini bok choi and many other varieties of the greens were severely wilted and unappetizing. All the American eggplant was heavily covered with brown spots...not at all fresh. In addition, the fish department was even fishier smelling then usual and had several dead fish floating in the live fish tanks --the workers seemingly oblivious to them, and seemingly uninterested in keeping the live fish healthy. Why would I consider buying a live fish from a tank with so many dead fish floating in the same water? Honestly, the overall impression was that this location just doesn't get the volume of shoppers typical of these markets. The rest is that the typically very fresh produce and fish are sitting around too long to appeal. This was my first visit to this international grocery location. It will likely be my last. read more

I came into New Grand searching for oyster mushrooms. I had been seeing a lot of buzz on IG about these particular mushrooms having a similar texture and fry-ability as chicken! Well I have good news to report. Yes, New Grand had the mushrooms and yes, they were very similar to chicken in texture and if properly seasoned taste! While I was at New Grand, I couldn't resist stroking the isles and licking up other things I thought were interesting. I ended up with somen noodles, black bean paste, bok choy , red bananas, oyster mushrooms and I was not disappointed with the selection nor the price. I will be back! also, they do accept EBT. We have had a good meal here. We don't Handle spices well anymore. So we have them make it mild. We had a couple of appetizers. Some sort of noodle dish that was Very tasty. I come in from Charlottesville as the closer alternative to going to Centreville for my asian groceries. I appreciate this location as well as the variety of fresh produce and packaged goods. They don't have the friendliest or most helpful staff and they don't do the best job of keeping the products stocked at all times, but it's still a whole lot better than what I can get in C'ville! I also like how I get a free case of water every time I shop here! (Because I always end up spending $150 or more! haha) The korean/chinese cafe there also has great food and korean baked goods. read more

Came back in to grab some chicken for my dog. It was all rotten after sitting in the fridge overnight. This is not the first time it happened. Do NOT buy meat or seafood here. I usually go to the location in Midlothian and have had a wonderful experience there. I was super excited a location opened in the west end area. However, my experience at this location with the manager and the people at the register has been horrible. First time around when they treated me horribly for a misunderstanding, which I didn't mind brushing off and moving on. The manager and the registers person decided to speak negative about me in Spanish thinking I didn't understand what they were saying and they completely ignored me when I tried to understand why they were so upset. I ignored the reaction and moved on with my life. I went back again for a second time and not worrying about my first experience there. Second time around different register lady couldn't figure out why the machine wasn't taking my debit card. So she called over the same manager from last time over to figure it out. The manager proceeded to blame me for the error and that something must be incorrect with my card, again all in Spanish thinking I don't understand what she's saying. What really made me mad is she read out my debit card information in front of everyone very loudly everyone could hear it. That is extremely unacceptable in any situation, it is a debit card as a store manager reading a customers card information out loud is absolutely wrong! And the manager was extremely rude second time around as. I'm extremely upset with the service I received twice at this location. I had to call my bank and cancel my card right away to avoid any unexpected charges. read more

Grand opening! I love this store so far. They have everything international you can think of, and not just a tiny section in one aisle! The entire store is international. The fresh produce looks great, so many things I've never seen before. The seafood section is huge, with live fish and crabs. There are Jamaican, Latino, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and more types of foods in there. It just makes you want to try everything you see! Or go home and try to make something different. read more
