Crowded and messy market with unfriendly staff. They carry some nice teapots and tea accessories, fans, incense, sundries, soaps, utensils, and kitchenware if you don't mind digging. Ethnic aromas fill the air. On your way out, grab some lucky bamboo plants.

Another bad experience in TAN-A . Take a look at the owner gabbing away as you wait in line. The customer experience sucks here. This place is always backup and the owner running her mouth .

I wanted to love this place, but I was really turned off by how many items had expired in 2022. The general health/cleanliness left something to be desired. There was a large cardboard box of rotten mangoes by the front of the store and prepared food was sitting out on a table, unrefrigerated. Lots of cool imported items for sale, but I'd be afraid to buy anything that wasn't prepackaged and stamped with an expiration date.

Ahhhh. My favorite Asian and international grocery store in Richmond other than the market next to Chengdu restaurant and New Grand Mart. Fun fact, this was the first Asian store I went to when I came for college. Many a night runs have been made here when I missed Asian snacks or food. It's small, but it's well-stocked and has everything from the trendy ramen, Asian candies, instant coffee to the more traditional Asian produce, old school snacks, and fresh meat and fish. I believe the owners are Chinese-Vietnamese and speak Mandarin, Cantonese, and Vietnamese. Don't let them put you off, they're just very about business and efficiency. They're not really ones for niceties (please or thank yous), but don't take it personally. The best treasures in this spot that I miss are their giant Vietnamese-style meat buns near the checkout line that have the juicy pork and quail egg filling ($1.50 each as shown in pic), fresh spring rolls ($2.75 for package as shown in pic), sesame balls, and other Vietnamese and Chinese desserts and pastries. Also, they have these amazing Cheung Fun or rice noodle roll (around $5) that have bits of pork, shrimp, and chives incorporated into them. They have these little cute packages wrapped in plastic with a plastic fork, so you can totally warm them up really quickly and eat them on the go. I recommend having them with soy sauce and sriracha. Sorry, didn't get pictures of the Cheung Fun. Having Cantonese or southern Chinese snacks are kinda rare, so I always loved grabbing these cheap eats for road-trips or breakfast. Support this local business! Please note that they have a $10 limit for using cards.

I am in love! Why have I not been here before?! After eating brunch at a nearby pho place, we decided to stop in to buy a few things since it was so close. I ended up spending $100. Just about everything you could possibly want is here. They have interesting produce, really fresh seafood, sauces, noodles, wrappers, cookware, drinks, spices, tea, candy...and the list goes on. I will be back. Oh, and I eat Sambal like it's ketchup, and they had a bottle that is as big as my head. Gotta love it.

    Quite a selection of mochi!

Tan A, Tan A. Where do I start... Let's start on a high note with some pros. The store is very large and there is quite the selection of Asian produce, snacks, and other grocery items. It's relatively easy to find what you want, and it's laid out sort of like you'd expect a grocery store to be laid out. There are a lot of different flavors of candy and snacks. Also, it's very close to some very good pho restaurants, so if you wanted to get a lunch or dinner at one, you can easily hit it up on the way back (which is what I've been doing). Now some not so high notes. The service is very spotty. Of the 3 or 4 times I've been here, only once did the cashier seem to even acknowledge my existence. Not even exaggerating, I've had times where not even one word was spoken to me. Including the price. I've had to look at the slightly angled cash register itself to see how much I owe. In fact, today I stood there with my $22 in hand after she scanned my items for about a minute while she turned her back and started to talking to an Asian family an aisle over. Also, other people have mentioned it, but the back part of the store smells like fish. It smells this way because the back part of the store is packed with fish. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, but it's a strong smell that most people don't find too appealing. There are meats and crabs scattered about in the back too. I guess if you're shopping for this kind of item then it's perfect. I know those last two paragraphs make the place sound deplorable, but really, it's not so bad. The customers seem to be pretty nice and as I mentioned before, the selection really is quite impressive. We've bought snacks, tapioca pearls, tea mixes, mochi, ice cream, and some other odds and ends. I would buy the produce too if I needed an asian fruit or vegetable. We went to Far East around the corner and in comparison, Tan A is much larger, wider aisles, and laid out more intuitively. It's too bad that the staff at Tan A are so difficult to work with. It certainly can't be just because it's an Asian Grocery Store because Far East's staff was very helpful. All that said, I still say to check it out if there's something you're looking for. They really do have a lot of items.

Awesomely fully stocked Asian market for your every Asian grocery & household goods needs! Fresh produce to frozen goods to all sorts of treats & cooking/dining utensils!! I wish it was closer to me! They have every kinds of noodles you could imagine. somen, udon, lomein, bean threads, pancit, soba... You could stock your shelves with any Asian spices you may need. There are great variety of meats and seafood too I will need to bring a cooler next time! Be aware, and be ready credit and debit card users! Good thing I had with me that almost obsolete thing that substitutes cash... Called...hmmm...check! They only accept cash and in state checks. Happy shopping!

It's nothing like the Eden shopping center in Northern VA but it does carry the stuff that I need to make my Vietnamese traditional dishes. We always come where to grab our Bok choy, banh bao, cooked noodles, soup meat/seafood balls, Chinese sausages, sriracha (the BIG ones), and the better versions of ramen. They seriously have a lot of spices and sauces for any Asian style recipes you are pursuing to make. They have a meat deli in the back where you can get some meat/seafood, I normally get chicken feet from the back. I haven't had anything else so I cannot honestly say. After getting my groceries, my husband and I always tend to grab a banh bao or the sticky rice patty. Def worth grabbing to snack on later. They now started taking debit cards with a min of $15, they use to only take cash or checks. Definitely love coming here to get my Asian cook on!

I have no idea what that means, but they have good sandwiches. What to get: A Prosciutto sandwich with Fresh Mozzarella added, maybe What else: Expect an upcharge to add Fresh Mozz How to improve: Don't upcharge so much for Fresh Mozz (sigh) Nick's is a little run-down grocery store which sort-of feels like walking into a check-cashing shop or an urban convenience store that just happens to have a wonderful old-school NY-NJ style Italian deli inside. The deli itself is great, and makes a lot of awesome sandwiches for decent prices. As I said, I don't like the weird upcharges for certain ingredients, but so be it. It makes the prices of a sandwich soar from decent to ridiculous. The sandwiches aren't altogether authentic Italian NY-NJ style, but they are very good. I loved the parts of it that I had fresh, however when I had the rest of the sandwich a little later it had gotten extremely squidgy and soggy because they use a regular loaf of bread rather than anythng hard or Italian. Again, makes it less authentic but still very tasty. Despite these remarks, I haven't had a sandwich this good in the Richmond area before, so you should give it a try. And if it were Niche Produce, then they'd only sell unusual and hard to get hipster vegetables and sandwiches. Whereas if it wer Nix Produce, it would close down soon. And if it were Knickers Produce then I would have torn them down a lot more quickly and intensely than I did in this review.

We had become accustomed to dropping into the Asian grocery for an an abundance of hard-to-find and inexpensive fruits and vegetables; to the Indian store for exotic spices and savory treats (Samosa); and to the Persian shop for pitas and baklava. We've been looking for similar shops in the Fredericksburg area -- and found this store referenced on Yelp. The store was easy to reach off Plank Road, though tucked away in small center (with many closed storefronts) in a neighborhood. The "neighborhood" felt safe, and there was plentiful parking. The shop was cheery and bright, with one aisle of fresh fruits and vegetables, a refrigerated and freezer section, many aisles of packaged goods, and some household items. The assortment tended towards foods from east and southeast Asia. We ended up buying canned coconut milk, and a nice assortment of fresh vegetables that aren't available in our local Food Lion - bean sprouts, bok Choy, bitter gourd, and Japanese eggplant. We were also tempted by the frozen wrappers to make Dim Sum or Filipino spring rolls. Next time! We looked for some Indian spices (coriander, timur), but they were not available. Prices were comparable to our regular grocery store. The older man who checked us out was quick-to-smile, but we didn't talk. We would return to this store when next in Fredericksburg.
