We left without any british chocolate much to my husband's dismay, but next time we shop there I will arrive with a list prepared for items needed for asian dishes I'd like to make, and we can grab a chocolate bar then! Checkout was easy, and it was a busy saturday but no long waits. Next time we go we will also plan to grab our lunch too--the food court looked stellar.

Back home in Houston, I know the only place to find good variety is at Asian supermarkets. So, I searched on Yelp. Here we are. I couldn't believe New Grand Mart has almost all mushroom varieties in the Asian markets: fresh Shiitake Mushrooms, Oyster Mushrooms, King Oyster Mushrooms (hardiest kind), White Beech Mushrooms, Brown Beech Mushrooms, Snow White Mushrooms aka Seafood Mushroom, Enoki (good for grilling), Wood Ear Mushrooms aka black fungus 黑木耳 (incredible meat texture), Baby Bella Mushrooms and Button Mushrooms. The only thing I didn't see was portobello Mushrooms. I immediately noticed the clientele was mixed ethnicity. Wow, the store was playing Spanish music and there were aisles of Hispanic products. So, I concluded that New Grand Mart is a truly an international supermarket. Definitely a good place to share my food culture knowledge by bringing people from other areas to come explore.

I took my time browsing and thankfully I wasn't bombarded by employees trying to help. Later on when I got home I just happened to notice 1 of the 11 items I purchased was past it's best by date. Got on here and apparently this I wasn't the first or second person to have this problem. The thing that gets me is there were tons of what appeared to be employees stocking vegetables, you would think at least one of them would be assigned to go out and keep an eye for past due dates on the shelves. Really wanted to like this place with a 5 star, the music and atmosphere were on point but I'm really disappointed I basically wasted $ on something that employees should have been checking themselves. So far away it's a little difficult for me to return. I'm a big fan of Desi next door, and I'm sure I'll be back in the future, but next time I go here I will definitely take it upon myself to keep an eye out for dates. Dishonest owner…read more Purchased a 4 lb (!) bag of chickpeas which became infested with bugs not long after. The bag was UNOPENED with an expiration date of 2024. I brought the item back for an exchange and was immediately and loudly accused that I had not purchased the product there. I told them I could show them my credit card bill (since I'd thrown away the receipt). THEN the owner rudely and loudly yells at me that they don't take returns after 30 days. Then changed his mind to 2 weeks. (!!) Again, the bag was unopened with an expiration date of 2024 (!!!) Horrible people. I've bought bags of beans and chickpeas from Walmart that stayed fresh for years! I am the one who was supposed to be upset, but she was very arrogant; I don't need to talk about Biryani, as she has the copyright for Biryani and said she will not know, only the chef knows ever after I politely asked to verify with the chef and tell me, she was angry. I made a mistake; I should have taken the biryani with the meat and reported to the county health inspectors. They should raid this restaurant, issue a citation, and shut it down. This type of attitude is not going to help.
