They make canceling an account very cumbersome. My relative wasted 10s of thousands of $$s on a space and when we finally cleared it all out (to a dumpster! ) So he paid for large closet for 15 years for NO REASON). I am trying to cancel the account and they say "use the app" but my Dad never setup an account online. I called location and after playing with phone prompts for 15 minutes I got to leave a voice mail for manager. I am skeptical that the message will result in a call back, and if they do call me back, I will raise this rating. read more

Worst experience ever. Someone parked partially in my assigned spot, and I spent the next five days trying to reach anyone by phone who could help resolve the issue. Every day, I spent at least an hour speaking with multiple agents, but no one provided a solution. Eventually, they gave me a new parking spot and assured me I would pay the same rate with no moving fee. Now they're charging me $50 more for the new spot! I didn't even want to move - I had no choice because I couldn't access my original space. This is ridiculous. read more

Old units in disrepair. Had to have our unit repaired many times and still rain and snow got in. For one of the repairs our door would not open and it took over a month to get it fixed. The worst is they raise your monthly rent frequently. I started at $165 and ended at $370 a month. The last increase was over a 20%, which I finally moved to a different storage company for less than $80 a month for an INDOOR unit which is very nice. I believe they keep increasing the rent because many people have it on auto pay and forget about it, so if you don't complain or move, they take advantage of that. I looked on their website and the same unit is $165 now when I was paying $370. I guess that is the reward I got for being a good customer for years. I was a recent customer of one of the sister Public Storage facilities in the area and had a very bad experience. In researching alternatives, I came upon this facility in Winfield, and made an online reservation. From there, the experience became the very BEST one I have encountered with a business in a long time. After making the reservation Danielle called me and we instantly bonded over my storage needs and possible solutions. I then made a second reservation and we scheduled an appointment. Having just completed the appointment yesterday, I can't say enough great things about Danielle and her products and services. She is an OUTSTANDING professional with a wonderful personality and a great business style. Being a former HR Director, I can tell you unequivocally that she is the type of first class manager that I want to help run my business. She went above and beyond and the extra mile etc to come up with the best solution for my needs. I will continue to be a valued customer with Public Storage because of Danielle, and I hope that she is recognized and rewarded for all her efforts and results. I'm very,very happy to have decided to rent a storage space at this Public Storage location. Chelsea at the front desk was a joy to work with and extremely professional. I had my rental unit shown to me,my gate code assigned,all of the rules explained, first months rent paid and a shiny,brand-new lock in less than 10 minutes. The whole process was painless, easy and actually kind of fun thanks to Chelsea, her wonderful attitude and obvious desire to do everything in her power to please the customer. The only thing I could sort of complain about is the mandatory insurance that you're required to carry on your unit. Nothing about insurance was mentioned when I called the 800 number to get initial pricing info. I do need to point out that during that initial call, I spoke to someone in a random call center in some other location - not anyone affiliated with this Winfield location. So, the additional monthly charge for insurance was kind of a surprise, but the premium is very reasonable and when you think of it, insurance isn't too bad of a thing to have to have. I price compared with Uncle Bob's ( ? really - what a dumb name ), Simply Self Storage, and AAA Self-Storage, (all in the St. Charles area) and even with the insurance premium, this Public Storage location is an extremely good value. Overall, I highly recommend this Public Storage location. Chelsea is an excellent customer service representative, and Public Storage should be proud to have her as an employee. In this type of business where price and amenities are all pretty close between competitors, customer service really makes the difference in choosing where to rent, and the main reason I chose to rent here was the wonderful service that Chelsea provided at the time of rental. Quick easy clean. I use storage every year, whoever is least expensive. This year was by far the easiest. Renting online requires the purchase of a lock, but it is refunded if you bring your own. The friendly office staff refunded with no questions. read more

If there was less than one star I would do it. This place is a huge mess. I set up on auto bill only to realized they didn't add it correctly. When I tried to gain access it cost me an extra $30. They won't take responsibility for their mistake since I closed my account. They have low hanging branches that scratched the top of my new truck. When I told them there response was "it not our tree it belongs to the neighbors". Avoid this place, so many other companies that deserve your money! read more

They charged me for a lock and made me sign up for their insurance there, even though i had a public storage lock of the same type, and it was covered on my home insurance policy. They said I was not eligible for the 1 dollar first month or any other discounts because I am white, and that it was only for minorities. I suggest go to another place till they get new management at that facility. read more

I've rented here before. The previous manager was horrible but they have good prices. This time I called and got a new guy who was awesome to deal with. The online price was the best so I booked it and drove in with my van packed with boxes. The new guy was great and very friendly. You can waive the mandatory insurance if you bring your homeowners insurance declarations page. I bought a lock from them that is very secure and design for their lockers. They have a bunch of RV's parked there in a large gravel lot. I would highly recommend. 5 stars read more

I have been renting from this location for several years and it has always been convenient. When we needed a larger space, I spoke with Twain at this location and he was very helpful. I've been storing here for about half a year now, and while for the most part it's a very good facility, I do have a few complaints: when signing up for the unit, I was given a price online and only found out once I was in I'd need to pay more than half what the unit cost on top of monthly rent for insurance. Kind of skeevy. Also, they recently raised my rent, not even a year into being there. Unfortunately it's not worth it to move my stuff from here somewhere else, which they probably know and is why they raise the rent on you when you've only been there a short while. If it wasn't for those two things, this place would get 5 stars. Employees are nice, facility is superb, units are well-kept. read more

Barbie and Twain were available, friendly, attentive, and efficient when we arrived to complete our registration. The facility is easy-access, clean, and well monitored. I have stored my boat here for the past few summers. Met with Twain today and secured a spot for this summer. He was very detailed in his explanation for the procedures of entering the gated storage area. Nice to know that we can request special access times if needed. Also nice to know that Twain is the on site manager and will keep and eye on our boat. read more

Learned to be careful of outdoor storage unit since several boxes got mold on them. The staff and others were very helpful, until I left a message about the mold and got no response. I would have given a much higher review except for the fact of finding mold and then getting no response from the message I left. read more
