Employees are always friendly so one star for that! Absent any more stars due to broken storage…read moreunit. The door keeps coming off of the tracks, which prevents closing it. It's impossible for me to fix on my own, so I often have to wait for many hours for someone to assist. When this happens after the office is closed the storage unit is not able to be closed OVERNIGHT. As one can easily imagine, I've contracted a storage unit so that I have offsite safekeeping for my belongings. In my understanding of renting storage units, that's kind of the point. If the storage unit is wide-open overnight -- or at any time when I am not there to choose and supervise that -- it is entirely ineffective in fulfilling its only purpose. Further, the latch doesn't slide, so often times I can't open the door, or lock it. I'm very grateful one of the friendly employees once called me to tell me that the unit was unlocked. If they didn't do that, I wouldn't have known in that particular instance; several other times I DID know, because it wouldn't lock and I noticed that for myself. This is all clearly very problematic, even as a once off, it's happened on a multiple times per month basis for the 15 months I've had the unit. This is a chronic ongoing issue. Extra Space Storage does nothing to fix the problem or mitigate the cost to myself so I have to absolutely insist that anyone reading this please consider alternative options. Spending money every month to waste your time and ruin your day isn't a common chosen pastime, but if you're an unlikely fan of that, by all means, go for it!

When I first brought it to their attention, I had noticed it had damaged a piece of furniture, but didn't seem to have been damaged beyond that. I asked who I should contact and the woman at the front was nice enough, but said No one was going to do anything. I left a voicemail for the manager, April and never heard back. About a year later, we were leaving the unit and went to get the rest of our stuff. This is what we noticed all of the mice droppings and further water damage to our property. We brought it again to the attention of the woman at the front desk, who was on speakerphone with April at that time and again said that "they ain't gonna do nothing" but to call back next week. I followed up and spoke with April who said that she would get back to me no later than Wednesday, but have not heard back since. Despicable. I have over $3500 in damage to property that went straight in the trash. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau, and I am also filing a complaint with the Attorney General. Don't do business with these people.

We had a lot of stuff and large furniture, and 4 bedrooms sets. Everything was disassembled and reassembled without any issues. Before they were completely done they made sure everything was where we wanted it and would move around again if necessary. They were wonderful, professional, hard working, never complained, kind, considerate, just a pleasure to deal with all day. But that's not even the issue, since that is in their fine print. The issue is that these people are impossible to reach by phone. The office was closed over Labor Day weekend, which is a very busy move-in weekend for students at the local universities, and they had a phone message saying nobody would be in their office answering their phone and that you should text this other number. Texting that number produced no results. The bottom line is that you shouldn't waste time looking around, just use Burkhardt. One of the owners David came a week before the move, gave me a reasonable estimate and was incredibly personable. Then yesterday they sent two guys (Morgan and Kyle) who were absolutely tremendous. Sometimes you never know what you're getting with movers, but these two guys were courteous, listened to make sure that things were done the way I wanted, and they let me know on multiple occasions that they were dedicated to making sure that the job was done the way I wanted. And to make it even better, they were also focused on being efficient which meant that the move went smoothly and quickly without any feeling that they were cutting corners. It wasn't until later that I found out that Morgan is also a Burkhardt, and it gives me confidence that this company is going to be around for a long time. Moving is usually an emotional affair, but Burkhardt Movers were so fantastic that the sadness of the move was quickly replaced by gratitude for how pain-free they made the move. Thank you Burkhardt Movers!

My friend about was looking for mover recommendations when I told her about my horrible experience…read morewith this company, She said I should warn others, so here I am. I had used this company years ago in the early 2000's and had a good experience. However, the time I used them again a few years ago was a nightmare, One of the owners came to my apartment to give me an estimate. I was getting rid of most of my furniture because it was old and/or broken. So basically all I had to move was a bedroom set, a couch, and some boxes. He quoted me two people because I did not have a lot to move. In fact, when I used them before I only had two people because I did not have a ton of furniture but much more than I had this time. Anyway, imagine my surprise when on moving day THREE people showed up. One of them said to me that they didn't have much work that day. Oh so I am supposed to pay for that? They know they have you though because moving is stressful enough without an argument. Plus, I stupidly thought it would go faster. WRONG! They were so slow that even with three of them there would be long gaps between getting furniture. I went outside at one point and saw the three of them just hanging out on the truck. So finally when everything was done I said ok I will meet you at the new place. One of them said, we have to stop at the office real quick. I get to my new place, and it took them over an hour and a half to arrive. I called their cell phone at one point because they had given me the number, but of course they did not answer. So when they finally showed up and moved me in, they way overcharged me. At least a third more than what I was quoted. I was so tired and worn out that I just paid it. I had to return to work the next day so it took me a while to unpack. That's when I started to notice that I was missing things, jewelry, handbags, designer sunglasses, china from my Grandmother, a huge jar full of change, clothes etc. The problem was i could not prove any of it. I also stupidly used bankers boxes so I did not seal them because I have never had a mover steal from me. One of the movers even said to me that I should not have used them! I was too stupid to realize that the reason they took so long to get to my new place was because they were going through my stuff to see what valuables they could take. I am still heartbroken because some of the things they took were family heirlooms which really only had sentimental value. Please do not hire these people at any price! I wish I had brought them to court, and I still might. Anyway, I am hoping I can spare someone else from their thievery.

When they finally showed up around 6PM I gave them each a bottle of water. They proceeded to explain all of their costs which were not relevant and there was a lot of BS, so much BS that you could smell it. They talked about how much size it would take in their truck, about recycling anti-freeze and tires, nothing made any sense and then they hit me with an estimate of $1,200.00.
