HEADS UP! Price goes up every 3 months substantially, we've been a loyal customer at that storage location when it was Lockup storage, who was a storage for the community! public storage promised our price would be "locked in" lasted less than a year, once that year passed, rent increased upon increase, as of Sept. 2025 our rent for a 10x10 is almost $500. more than a car payment or two. There is no such thing as loyal customer merit with public storage definitely not a storage for the community, shop around for other storage, local options. The staff on the other hand are great people, only thing they are always short handed, hard to find someone in the front, Corp. & management needs to step it up!! Perhaps focus on fulfilling the needs of the community & your employees and less focus on filling your pockets. read more

The past months bill was a shocker to us; it was up by more than $150! When we inquired about the drastic raise of our rental fee they responded that they sent us a postcard. Other than that we really liked our storage locker. It was one of the few drive up lockers with 24/7 access. The workers were always nice, helpful and friendly. Its too bad about the price increase. read more

Although specific sites may have excellent managers and treat the customers well, Public Storage corporate is out to gouge the customers and the company does not empower the site managers or their district managers to provide a good customer experience. If you are looking for long-term storage, this is NOT the company to work with. They raise their prices regularly. They will work with you and submit exceptions for so long, but this time around they raised my rent by 25%!!! Their logic was, "we have to raise prices based on market and demand, just like an airline raises their prices." My response to that retort is the airlines don't raise the price on you while you are mid-flight. If the rate increases were on par with inflation, or within reason, that would make sense, but they push hard to get you out by raising your rent to unreasonable rates because they want to rent it out at the new rate. When I spoke to my district manager she said "I have done everything I can," which is either a cop-out, or it means the corporate office and the people who make decisions are not the people who actually work with the customers. They do not empower their leaders to lead and run their businesses. read more

MILLION DOLLAR IDEA---Hawaii has a homelessness problem and so do other places. Whenever I come here and think about the waste of a space this is, I think about what it can be instead. Think about it, people pay to store their crap. Nothing against anyone, its their money and their crap, but is it really that important to pay to store crap? I tease my sister sometimes about it since she has nothing but "crap" in her storage and just wasting money for her habit of hoarding and storing. You may say one persons trash is another persons treasure, but I dont think this applys in this situation. Who the heck stores 5 Christmas Trees, bags of unopened mail, and other worthless "stuff" I wont mention, and PAYS monthly for it? Apparently a lot of people do. I mean I'd understand better if you're storing stuff that increase in value, but in this situation, its a lose money the longer you cant find the time to just get rid of the crap. The good news is my sister slaves me to lug her crap up and down here enough times for me to have the time to think about my million dollar idea about this place which is: Why can't the government or some other entity just buy up this place and transform it into homeless shelter instead. I mean it could work couldnt it? The storage rooms are spacious and durable enough for beds, cooking would be only done outside, and people pay what $50-$300 a month for storing useless stuff that sometimes end up for auction anyways? Small modifications would be needed for running water but the structures and rooms are already in place. Government should grant the money for this and solve the homeless crisis asap. Anyways before I get carried away with this, back to the review lol. The service here has always been nice but getting in and out building and the working the elevator can be hassle. Theres only 3 of those dolly cart things too, so if theres none and you got a lot of shiz, you are sol or have to wait or tuff it out and bear hug everything to where you need to go. The floors are cool in temp but I dont like the auto sensor lights that shut off, I had to run back and forth to trigger them back on while I was loading and unloading things into the storage. Now I am no hoarder, but I am a prepper. (Did not go crazy like most these people during this pandemic) I already had a lot of things stocked before hand and some things like toilet paper, I dont even bother stocking more than I need. I only have one big bin of "stuff" I try to stock and restock if needed yearly. Some of the things I have in my bin are: 1) First Aid Supplies 2) MREs-I kinda dig the spaghetti one yo lol 3) Wipes- I find these the smarter choice vs bulkier/sol if they get wet TP 4) Batteries 5) Solar LEDs and Glowsticks 6) Coffee Filters-Not for coffee, Multi Purpose use 7) Lighters 8) Socks 9) Bug Out Bag (Grab and Go supplies/resources when shiz hits the fan) 10) Bucket of Marbles with Slingshot from 5th grade: (For Zombie Apoc) I mean I dont need a storage room for just that do I? Are these Storage Facilities really the best use of space on the island for storing crap or can they benefit mankind better by being upgraded into the next level. I dont have the resources to take on that kind of immense task or project but maybe others finds it more useful than I, or maybe someone has a better million dollar idea "stored." read more

Decent facility, but HORRIBLE customer service provided by Javier. When trying to discuss a miscommunication based from false information provided the day we got the storage unit, two weeks ago I asked for the manager. First, he replied snarky stating that he couldn't tell me who was the manager on staff today, then followed by him hanging up on the phone. I DO NOT recommend this storage unit company, poor customer service towards a service member was rather shocking. Definitely spend your money else where. P.S. DON'T DO IT!! This place is a total joke. They falsely advertise it as secure, but the gates haven't worked in years. The manager allows homeless people to "hang out" in the back, sleeping on cots or in their cars, washing their vehicles at all hours. WTF right?!? It's no wonder the cars in the back get windows broken out and theft is not unusual. Just have a look around the bottom perimeter units doors. You'll see where the door locks have all been broken off during break-ins. A complaint call to the DM on the mainland will get you lip service telling you that he didn't know the gate was broken and it will be fixed next week just waiting for a part, blah, blah, blah. It's all BS. Look at old Yelp reviews mentioning the same broken gate. Oh and the cameras don't work! Next stop BBB. In fact, they need to be blacklisted by the military. Consider this an I TOLD YOU SO and You've been warned! read more

Then it looked liked I irritated or interrupted the person sitting behind the desk maybe having lunch as she was eating something well the other one just talk to me while doing something moving papers or something.... zero eye contact. Asked if they had small size, then asked what kind of feet, then she focused on the price. No offer to show me, Well what size? Lol confirms not listening to me--I said ok I will walk outside book online as I know it's cheaper, rightfully so it's a business. I really wanted this location, booked it online, in the meantime looking for other storage places- Someone called to confirm my online booking who was much more welcoming-- imagine kind enough to invite to look at the different small sizes. I laughed and said "change my mind as the customer is poor and I would rather pay for somewhere with customer service means something- because I prefer customer focused service rather than money. OMG- found Fran at Hawaii Self Storage in Pearl City AWESOME customer service. Made us feel like family - talk stories with us, called me by my name. I sooooooooo recommend Hawaii Self Storage it's locally owned and they give back to child in need in Hawaii. That is what I call a company that cares about people. Avoid using this facility. Though management seemed very good, the associate we dealt with was so rude, so ready to fight and argue, after only one day we yanked our belongings and went elsewhere. We tried taking our complaint to a regional manager, but she sided immediately with her staff and tried to get us to move and or only let some of us in to access our things. We got a better deal with a better company . No one needs to be treated poorly when paying for a service. read more

I am a military member and alot of things have been changing, I rented the unit with the intention of moving household goods in but the military decided they would move and store my stuff so I went back to public storage and they told me they could not issue a refund and referred me to the corporate office which told me the public storage office must issue the refund so public storage is sending me in circles and refuses to issue my refund seeing as I rented the unit not even a full 2 days and did not even put anyy in storage. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. Stored stuff while deployed overseas. Came back after two years of faithfully paying my almost $200/mo fees only to find a big surprise. Stuff got damaged due to a chronic/recurring roof leak- dry rot, water soaked, water stains, mold/mildew, puddles, etc.. Facility took no responsibility even though their leaking roof trashed a lot of my stuff. I get it that the make you sign a clause exempting them, but would think they would refund my storage fees to help compensate me for the loss of my stuff when it was clearly their fault. Also, live and dead roaches in lots of my items. No issues with staff. They felt really bad about what happened. Just be warned if you are on the top floor. Hopefully your unit isn't next to mine. read more

Horrible, never again! I went to get my things and there was a unit partially open. There was an electrical cord running from outlet to unit, a bike parked outside, and I could see the disarray of clothing, etc. I told the office and the gal just ignored me. There is no professionalism here From the first day I moved in, it has been horrible. The security system is bad. Cameras don't cover the entire place and what it does cover cannot be seen in the poor camera quality. The place is dirty and it was real warm. I wondered where the temperature control they offer was? This is where someone got their unit broken into. It will happen again as long as people are living on there. read more

I explained I didn't have a ride, I was between houses and I was trying to get a ride to get my stuff out,. They Said Pay Daily And Everything Would Be Fine. Then I go there to get all my stuff and they tell me it's 568.00.. I rented it on Oct 31, 2014 and tried to remove everything on December 3rd, 2014..and that was my price. .. Sometimes is good to just admit when your wrong and not continue to argue with a customer. I've been paying for storage almost going a year now, especially with covid. I'm one of the thankful ones who is still able to work and continue my payments for my storage unit. I had call to let them know I was going to be late this month and spoke with Fransisco and he said it was okay and he would document it. My wife gets a call from Lena who told her that she didn't see any notes whatsoever. So I called her and told her that I already spoke with someone about payment. Then she tells me there was a note only saying a payment will be made on the 16th so I asked her wouldn't that mean that I made contact with someone and you should actually do some research before contacting me or family. She had an attitude for her not doing her job correctly. If you don't like dealing with customers and can't admit to your faults then maybe you should consider working in the warehouse. I am a Navy Sailor. I started business with public storage and parked my Lexus in one of their units from Nov 2020 because I joined navy boot camp last December.  In April 2021 public storage called me that the catalytic converter on my car was stolen and they could not tell me when it happened and who stole it from my car. I paid public storage every month to guard my car but it failed to take its responsibilities and liabilities. It's a total public storage's fault but they rudely refused to resolve the program they made. Public storage is really a big nightmare to me! read more

Clean, well-lit, convenient location, parking, clean restrooms. The lobby and elevator (door open button) could use a little more maintenance and improved transitions at the entry and elevators. Won't notice it as much with small items, heavier items tend to need a bit of muscle especially on the soft tiles that started to peel. Pack light, stack nice. Storage halls and units are carpeted which could be good or bad depending on individual needs. Be sure to check out the unit with an employee and make sure it is what you expect before signing the contract, especially if you reserved online. The door location/size may be crucial to your needs and some units are not specified on the reservation site but still may be obtained in-person. Rent naturally changes with demand of the unit size and the notice is postal mailed. Be sure to check your mail at the address on file as sometimes those notices might arrive a little less than 30 days ahead. read more

I had reached the call center for information and I tell you this girl was so RUDE I couldn't get a question in without her Interuppting me and talking over me, this office is in waipio. I asked for a supervisor and was connected to a voice mail, left my concerns about this very rude rude girl and never received a phone call back. 2nd scenario I wanted to make a payment over the phone and was told my email was wrong and should have been noticed when I signed up. Well I did let the girl in office know because I remember telling her of course it wasn't fixed and now I could not pay it on computer. This man whoever he was so rude and and said I would have to pay for $20 extra for over the phone or pay $35 for being late And he went on and on and on what a total jerk. he said I did t ask for your opinion well I said I just gave you one. He said was my fault my email is wrong. REALLY? This guy was so rude. I cannot believe they hire this kind of people like this answer the phone and rude to customers. read more

Very bad!!! I had a lot of things stolen out of my vehicle. When I discovered my vehicle, the battery was missing as well as most everything that was in my vehicle totally about $1000. There appeared that there was security cameras and when I was alerted to the theft the staff told me they were reviewing the security camera footage. But when I went to the facility, they admitted that none of the cameras worked. Not only was my vehicle broken into, every other vehicle on the property appeared to be broken in. Missing tires, broken windows, open hoods, broken locks. Really hard to believe that a storage facility has no security whatsoever. I was leaving for a period and didn't want to leave it unattended, so I choice to pay to have it in storage. wow! Call after call to managers and regional managers went unanswered. read more

Reserved online and came in on our check-in date to two very helpful staff, Michelle and Angie. Michelle handled all of our paperwork, offered military discounts, showed us our options and unit, and offered advice on storing a couple of our items we didn't already have boxes for. They were very personable and helpful. Getting in and out of the facility to our unit seems easy enough and is behind coded access, which is great. She even mentioned if we needed a few extra days at the beginning of the month when we do move our stuff out, they can prorate up to the 6th so we have more time! $ Saving Tips 1. Reservations-make reservations online by going to the Public Storage website. You get better prices and better deals/promos. Walk-In-Customers usually get ripped-off. 2. Insurance-Decline their Orange Door Insurance. Use your own insurance like "Homeowners" instead. Why double pay when you may already be covered by one of your insurance providers? Call your insurance providers to find out. You don't need to provide them with proof of insurance coverage, just decline at the time of rental. If you do buy their Orange Door Insurance, go for the cheapest and don't store more than you're covered for. If they ripped you off already and you're currently renting, you can remove their insurance at any time to save money, just visit the office. 3. Overpriced merchandise-Buy cheaper merchandise (boxes, tape, bubble wrap, etc.) elsewhere. 4. Overpriced locks-Secondary-locks (padlock, disc-lock, etc.) aren't necessary. It takes a thief less than 1 minute to break through all door locks. If you do buy a secondary-lock, buy for cheaper elsewhere. 5. Promos/Deals-If you're a Current-customer you don't qualify for a new promo/deal during transfers or renting additional units. Only New-Customers and Returning-Customers qualify for deals. To be considered a Returning-Customer you must vacate for at least 7 days. You also can create other accounts using other names to get promos/deals. 6. Late Fees-Each customer is entitled to a one-time late fee waiver. If you ever get charged a late fee, you can request this waiver to get a refund. 7. Staff are nice, place is clean, good climate control, facilities in good condition. They will debit your credit card monthly if you like. However, not as good as the company that preceded it at that location. Why? 1. They lock up the flat-bed dollies, so they are only accessible until 6 p.m., and they make you leave an ID to use one. Gate hours until 9 p.m. doesn't really do much for you at a storage unit if there are no dollies. The hours between after work for most people and 6 p.m. are very crowded, and not much chance of getting a cart. The office opens quite late in the morning as well. 2. No "key fob" for access. You have to punch in an eight-digit access code, to get in the doors, then again for the elevator. 3. Bathrooms are locked now, also. Again, no bathroom access after 6 p.m. 4. They make you buy a special lock for the unit which they will not buy back from you when you move out. 5. Prices seem very expensive. 6. As said in another review, floor times are coming up in the elevator foyer, which is kind of dangerous if you are dragging heavy items. I know there are probably good reasons for all these things, but still, it is a pain in the neck accessing your stuff, and I'm glad to be out of there. None of these things are the fault of the staff, I don't imagine, but I hope the owners read and fix some of these problems. read more

The Public Storage on Ka Uka Blvd. bought out the Lock-Up Storage in October 2012 so Public Storage now has a monopoly in Waipio Gentry. The monthly rent was increased 5% when Public Storage took over. In 2013, the monthly rent was increased another 6%. I just received notice that the 2014 rent is going up another 17%, so in 21 months, the rent under Public Storage has increased 25% (since October 2012)!! Meanwhile, as mentioned in other reviews, hours of operation has shortened. The carts are padlocked and if the office is not staffed, not available at all. The general condition of the property has declined. Litter is left in the hallways for days. Lobby is missing floor tiles and elevator buttons. Abandoned furniture and appliances sit at the trash enclosure for months. Exterior has paper trash, beverage containers, packing material blowing around. I guess management figures since you have all your stuff already in the storage unit, you aren't likely to move to a cheaper facility. read more
