Just rented the space yesterday, but I havent actually started moving things in yet. So far the sales associate/property manager, Carmelita, was great! She explained everything and gave us the tour. She seems like she likes her job and that's cool! I got this unit on a black friday-type sale for much less than other storage places I looked at. I like that this location is kind of small so it will be easy for me to remember how to get to our indoor unit. It does seem to be an older/more worn out location. There was mention of the possibility of the door to the indoor units jamming every now and then, but I'm praying that won't happen to us and I just may wedge something in that door as we are moving in so that it doesn't shut. I can't speak on how smoothly moving in can be just yet, but I will update the review when that happens! For now I recommend this location based on customer service alone. read more

Ripped off here - beware! I have rented here for over four years. They constantly raise rates. It has more than doubled over the time I was here. So I go to check out because they again raised rates to over $1,000 per month. When I get there I see they are renting my same unit for $660.00!!! I'm paying almost $400 per month more! I pointed this out to the agent there and she says all I would have had to do is call and complain and they would have adjusted it. They certainly never said that when I got increase notice after increase notice. But they won't refund me the over $8,000 dollars they basically ripped me off. How was I supposed to know to do that? I asked. I just thought prices were going up because of demand, not that this company intentionally makes massive profits inflating prices for their loyal customers. This is the new American we live in I guess. Companies will do anything to bleed every dollar it can out of consumers. They also have mice in their units, droppings everywhere. The employees are the only nice thing about this business. Buyers definitely beware! Look at the rest of my reviews and you'll see I almost always give positive comments. But I would highly recommend you avoid this unscrupulous business. read more

I had stored my items here as I had a month in between my previous lease ending and my new job starting. I had to move to another state and needed movers to assist me in transporting my items across 200+ miles - however, I was not in town to open the unit. I called customer service to see if they could simply cut the lock off weeks in advance of my move, and they said it would be no problem, and that they could only do it within 72 hours of move out. Upon calling them to cut the lock off, they said they couldn't do that - and that they had not done so in the past two years. This completely threw off my move, as it delayed my move because I could not access the unit from states away. I had to hire a locksmith and spend an additional $250 to open the unit when they had promised it would be no issue just a few weeks before. Upon receiving my items, I noted mouse droppings and some of my items were chewed through (bags, small labels). It was disgustingly unkept, and I am so frustrated with the lack of consistency and sanitation. read more

Public Storage has some really annoying and I would say self defeating policies which the staff try to enforce in really untimely ways. When you work Customer Service you have to use a little good judgement as to when you enforce or remind people of things. Sure there are always bad apples and abusers but sometimes a little discretion goes a long way to building a stronger customer relationship. If you stay in the storage area and happen to exit after hours they will send you several emails scolding you. If you need to do any simple repairs or fix on stuff you are storing they will tell you that is not allowed. Customer Service is what will make or break a company in this day and age. Be smart! read more

Please do not take your loved items to the Lockwood drive 20904 location for long term stay. My sister who is temporarily disabled and is not in the area right now is being blocked from paying online and is being forced to fly back to Maryland to make payments on her account. Though she's never had and issue paying with cards online. And her support can't help her pay her outstanding balance before auction next week. The District manager told my sister she wants to inconvenience her like she inconvenienced the property about not paying her fees? I literally listen to my sister try to explain to Fatina? Why it would be hard to fly down. And the lady made it personal with my sister. This was my first time in years hearing a manager be very shallow towards a customer now none of us Can her my sister pay her bill before auction because the manager will only take money order? My sister never had an issue paying online and myself and the church listen to a manager not allowing a client pay her bill and treating her like a criminal for her own items. The Manger told my sister that we would have to collect money orders and pay at any public storage . The abuse towards my sister who is willing to pay the agreed amount by the cut off next week is not allowed to pay. This is the saddest moment I've heard. So all of us in different parts of the east coast can't help my sister at all. I even heard the manager not give my sister a reasonable answer why? The mama German even try to tell my sister who and how she can get my niece to fly down and pay. The manager doesn't understand that the money to fly and have a nurse fly with my sister when when all could come together and help pay the 4600.00 my sister owes. I've never seen a manager fo so personal on a customer. Please don't take your items there. And please pray for my sister that things get better for her. She is getting beat up pretty bad from a manager that blocked her for paying online and inconvenienced her medical treatment. I could see if my sister had credit card payment issues and the Manager confirmed that she doesn't. She just wants to make thing hard. Stating that my sister has made things hard for public storage? I can't make this up 230 am. Sad day. read more

The people are fantastic, but the facility is infested with mice and silverfish. I paid $159 per month for almost a year and when I went to get everything, my couch, bed and everything has mouse poop and pee on it and my bedding, even though wrapped up, had silverfish. If you rent here? Being mouse traps and go in and spray for bugs read more

They lure you in with a low rental rate -- months later they increase the rate. And the increases will never stop. I started paying $39/month for a 5x5 space - by the time I was done, the rate for the same exact space was $95/month, that's more than 100% increase. They think if they just increase the rent by a few dollars, no one will bother emptying the storage unit, and for most people that is sadly the case. Not worth it! read more

Spaces were a little difficult to no, but I eventually found it. I was in and out. No hassle. Very good service as well

Since my last review, Elena, at the Lockwood storage site, went out of her way to ensure that I have a ground level storage space. Since there were no longer any 5x10 units, she is allowing me to have a larger unit, but at the original price. She truly wanted to make sure that I am happy. Susan M read more

Perfect place to store my personal items while I search for a new apartment

I really liked the staff in the office, they are very courteous and helpful. The online process to make a reservation, set up an account and make payments is very easy to use. The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars is because they do not have an elevator and it's not as easy to access your storage room inside the building, however, they have ramp to help you get to your storage Unit. Otherwise, this is an excellent location. I recommend it. read more

It's conveniently located and reasonably priced. The agent was friendly and helpful when I completed the rental process which I started online. The driveways are uneven and water ponds when it rains so I'm often getting my feet wet when moving things in and out. I have a second level unit and there is no elevator and no stairs, only a sinuous ramp, which is no benefit because there are no carts in the storage building. I asked when I checked in and the agent said there were carts, but you need to go to the office to get them, and the office is often closed during their listed operating hours when the agent is showing new customers their space, checking out old customers, or making daily lock checks. The gate requires a personal pass code, but other drivers can follow right after going in or out, and pedestrians can access the storage building area without a pass code. The individual storage buildings are not secured for interior spaces; there is a key pad by the outside door, but no lock on the door. The interior spaces have hinged doors, not roll-up doors. They require the typical disk padlock. I brought my own and suggest you do too. There is no climate control. Interior lighting is dim. Bring a flashlight. There are mice as evidenced by chewed paper and droppings. There is no 24 hour access. Renter's insurance is required and offered, but I get a better rate from my car insurance company, and you could probably do as well. I am storing household items here while I look for an apartment after moving to MD from KY, and will terminate my rental in under 2 months. I primarily selected this location based on location and lowest price compared to others in the area. read more

Wow where do I begin, this place has turned out to be a nightmare so please Be-Ware. The location manager called me to ask about my payment. During the call I asked about my account because it seemed to be quite high, I know that I was behind 1 month because I was out of town but the charges still didn't add up. After speaking to the manager (Tennasin) I was informed that my rate jumped from $50 per month to $81.00 overnight for no reason. When I asked her to explain the reason for the increase she became rude and very sarcastic, very ghetto-ish and refused to give me any information. I asked her why was she calling me about a bill but couldn't speak with me about it nor give me any information on it. She became very combative and rude. I lost my temper and let her have it then asked for her manager's number. She gave me the number to a gentleman by the name of Benjamin Woodson. I called Mr. Woodson and left him a message but he has failed to call me back as of yet and hasn't tried to contact me in any way to resolve this matter. My overall experience with this company has been a nightmare and I strongly recommend that if you need a storage facility it would behoove you to keep looking around. They will worry you to death for your payment but if you have any kind of issues involving the staff or your account you get treated like a nuisance. I'm just going to pay my bill and get my stuff out of there and just don't do business with them anymore, my money spends everywhere. I don't need to deal with crooked storage people jacking up my rate by over $30.00 out of the blue with no warning or explanation for doing so; then I have to deal with rude unprofessional people. I will no longer put my money in to support a company that rips people off, hopefully if more people practiced economical castration of these no good companies we can eventually put them out of business due to lack of support. I will be posting my experience on my Facebook, Twitter and on my YouTube channel to make as many people aware as possible. Stand up and take your money elsewhere. read more

Just rented it yesterday and moved in, I did not. Ame in contact with no one. everything was fine online and it went smooth

I like the proximity of where I live, and I'm happy to see that they are making strides to keep the facility clean and safe. However, the last time I was there last month, I was briefly trapped in the hot, non-air conditioned building that my space is in. The main door to the building jammed when I got in there and there was no way I could open it. Thank goodness someone else was coming in, and they pulled while I pushed. After about 5 or 6 tries the door flew open. This was a harrowing experience for me. My hope is that the door has been fixed or replaced. read more

BEWARE!!! If I could give this place zero stars I would. To start off every person I spoke to was extremely rude. This place is basically a scam. They'll up charge your monthly rent and have zero explanations. Then turn around and ask you to pay for double months rent just to get your stuff out. It's ridiculous and clearly they do this to scam more money out of their customers. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

I did my reservation online and when i got to the storage they have given the unit i reserve to somebody else, they give a different unit inside the building where is more difficult to load, ( i have reserve a drive up unit) then the told me the inside unit don't get the first month for a $1. Carlos called the manager to see what can he do and Bengallo Morrison told him that nothing can be done I could go to a different public storage. I agree to stay since the truck with all my things was on its way. Carlos was great under the circumstances. After we finish all the paper work I discover my code was not working. Carlos help me with his code and told my code would work in a day or 2 its been one week and is not working. very disappointing experience. read more

The location on lockwood drive in silver spring was due on the first today is the eighth, accessed a late fee of $20 called the local office was advised the request would be sent to a manger to see if it could be waived, I just lost my job due to Coronavirus and haven't received any unemployment, this company is not concerned with what's going on, remember that when choosing a storage company, I also cant enter the unit even if I pay the 75$ have to wait to get a call, saying the late fee was waived read more

The customer service at this place has really improved in the past 9-12 months. During our January and February visits, we really appreciated the manager, Melissa, and her proactive approach to working with us to meet our needs. She was well informed about our options and even checked on us to make sure that everything was working out okay. Moving and dealing with storage has the potential to be veg stressful, so we are very thankful to Melissa and her helpful staff. We will be recommending this location to friends and family. read more

NEVER use these sleazeballs. I made my reservation online and confirmed all the details over the phone. I specifically asked whether there were any other charges and was told expressly "No." However, when I arrived I got a stereotypical "consultation" to "ensure I have everything to meet my needs" aimed at adding a bunch of up-charges. The manager admitted that he lied to me over the phone and had not told me about their "required" insurance, which is totally unnecessary for anyone who has their own, and exorbitant fee to use a lock. He also couldn't answer basic questions, took forever to take care of basic tasks, and was quite disorganized. Stay away. read more

Trust me! I worked for Public Storage! I located and built that storage facility! (The records don't lie....) Run, don't walk in the other direction. There are so many, much more reputable firms out there and smaller sites. Even if you have to drive a distance..... You can do better than this poorly run, poorly managed facility. read more

This place sucks don't use them. It is not worth your time to store here - half the time you can't get in and when you do, don't ever have a question. No one ever answers the phone before 10:30 even though they open at 9:30. They are rude and nasty and always on joke time. Stay away. read more
