BEWARE! THEFT AND LOSS OF VALUABLES! Last week, 1/29/25, I was horrified to discover that the storage unit, 914 Hopper Ave in Santa Rosa, which I have continuously paid handsomely for had been burglarized and robbed! Boxes ripped and dumped! The entire unit turned upside down and ransacked! Everything that I was paying Public Storage to protect - ALL WERE STOLEN - even though there was still a lock on the door. The manager said only employees had access to the key but who knows. One google review says the manager lets people stay/live in their units. If true, that's a definite liability. Still trying to get answers which is difficult, because the Public Storage 'claims' line does not answer. It just rings endlessly. Literally the WORST storage company I have ever used. There is no one that actually works at the property so you have to go through a headquarters phone number. The headquarters phone number doesn't have customer service either so you have to chat with a robot which is super infuriating when you angry already. I have had my stuff here for 8 months and only once have I ever been able to reach someone in the office. The only time someone comes in to the office is to call and tell you to pay your unit but then they dissappear again never to be useful again. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. read more

My lock was cut at Public Storage and have not been compensated. This facility has had multiple break-ins to storage units, I suggest to look elsewhere to keep your things. They didn't inform me of the break-ins until after I had my stuff stolen. This business has terrible customer service, they have made no attempt to reimburse me or compensate me for their inability to protect my property. If you want to keep your property from the public I suggest you don't use Public Storage. read more

I had met with zero customer service from a near by competitor of this business. After countless attempts to reach them from out of state after reserving (I had to book before my arrival in CA) I gave up. After a week of trying, I reached only people out of the state, who were going to message the manager that I needed a call & mark it urgent. After a week of multiple calls, there was not one returned call or response to my messages. I called Public Storage on Santa Rosa Ave in S Rosa, & the manager Stacy, actually picked up the phone, after a representative of the company reserved the space for me online. She could not have been more responsive and helpful. I left a message for her a day later, & my call was returned promptly- on her day off. Very impressed thus far. If you need storage in this area, I highly recommend this business. It seems to have local people who actually live in the area and can be reached when you need to connect with someone on site, or who will return a call or pick up the phone- If customer service is appealing to you, you might give this location a try. read more

I am partial to her, in that she is a tough cookie on policy; while inconvenient and stressful situations arise, and I needed pardon for a little rule bending or lienency, to what seemed to me ridiculously uptight, there were no acceptions. The real bottom line here is: I KNOW MY UNIT IS SAFE, AND PROTECTED AGAINST CON ARTISTS, SCAMMERS, TECHNICALIITIES, AND BITTER EXES. Public Storage - Self Storage Near Me - Santa Rosa, California

Moved to Santa Rosa a few months ago and needed to place my items in storage. I thought Public Storage was a reputable company however my experience proves otherwise. No more than 3 months later, my storage unit amongst MANY others were broken into. Carole, the manager, decided to call me at 4:30pm to tell me that during her morning routine she noticed the lock had been broken off of some units and mine was included. She refused to tell me if anything was left in my unit and even insisted I pay $25 for a new lock. Be advised that this storage facility is only monitored by 2 cameras, non of which face any of the units according to management. The manager and the police also shared that break ins are happening very frequently in this storage facility. read more

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. They don't even deserve one star. First off, moving is rarely a pleasant experience, and this move was no exception, especially when I found out that I would have to shell out $350 a month for a fricken storage unit. RIDICULOUS! When I rented the unit the woman told me not to worry that I was moving in on a day other than the 1st of the month, they "pro-rated" so that I wasn't going to be charged for days that I wasn't actually renting. Ok, great, but what she didn't tell me was that ONLY applies to move in, not move out. I scheduled my move out for the 15th, thinking, silly me, that I could save $175 if I was out by the 15th, because well, again, that's what the lady told me on move in day. Again, her words were, "Don't worry, we "PRO-RATE". We don't charge you for days that you aren't actually renting". Again, silly me for believing her and not reading the ENTIRE fine print. Then came move out day... As I started carting my boxes of belongings out I noticed that everything was covered in dirt. Like street gutter dirt. My mattress, my furniture, Lamp shades, boxes, EVERYTHING was covered in dirt. And not just a little street dirt, TONS OF IT. My Bunn coffee maker was covered and that gritty dirt was literally seeping down into the vents that lead to the water tank. My toaster was full off it. EVERYTHING had a coat of dirt street. What the heck? Why was all of my belongings covered with gritty street dirt? How can that happen? Every box that wasn't literally sealed completely shut with tape was dirty on the inside. Well, l when I spoke to a young smug office guy, named Eric, he basically shrugged his shoulders and said something about the maintenence guy comes in with a blower and blows the off the pavement~ Yeah, RIGHT INTO THE UNITS! My God, $350 dollars a month to end up with all of my belongings covered in dirt. When I told Eric that I was not happy that I busted my A$$ to get moved out so I would be refunded a half a month he actually kind of laughed and said, "Yeah, my boss and I talk about this all the time. Everyone thinks they get a partial month refund but they don't." I asked him if, since I was vacating the unit that day, he would rent it out the next day, and he said, "Yeah, probably." I told him that was unfair because they would be getting double rent for the two weeks that I was vacating early and he said, "Put your padlock back on then." I then told him that I would be contacting the Corporate Office to make a complaint, and he kind of grinned and turned and walked away. I called the Corp, Office and got put thru to the district manager Heather M. She basically apologized for me being unhappy but said that I should have had my belongings insured. Really? Insured against dirt? My renter's insurance has a deductable and they won't pay me for cleaning my own belongings~ she may as well have said "Too bad so sad." I told her I had photos of the mess, but she didn't even want to see them. And as far as HER employee assuring me that they pro-rate? Her response was "It was written in the contract, and you should have asked customer service about it". I sure do not recall reading anything on the website regarding no refunds for early vacating of units when I scheduled my vacate day , but I certainly DO remember being told by the lady who checked me in that they do PRO-RATE and do not charge for days you aren't actually renting. They should be ashamed. I will NEVER EVER rent from Public Storage again. Oh, and 4 days later... I am STILL cleaning the street dirt off of my belongings... read more

The best thing about Public Storage Santa Rosa on Hopper Avenue is property manager Drew, who is professional, courteous, friendly, and candid. He answered all our questions without reservation and was attentive to our requirements. We chose Public Storage Santa Rosa on Hopper Avenue primarily due to its proximity to our home and to U.S. 101, making it very convenient. We are also banking on the fact it survived the 2017 Santa Rosa fires. The reasons we give it 4 stars are: 1. The storage locker doors inside the 2-story building are wood, not steel, like our previous storage facility in San Rafael. Indeed, the prevalence of wood in the construction, rather than steel and concrete, did give us some pause, but it wasn't a deal-breaker. 2. The lack of electricity in the storage unit and generally underlit hallways. This will necessitate the use of a headlamp when conducting activities when it's dark out. Drew explained why there is no electricity - to discourage people living / working inside the units - and we accepted this as understandable. 3. Limited access. You can only access the facility between 6 am and 9 pm. This is generally reasonable, but we were spoiled by having 24-hour access at our previous storage facility, which sometimes came in handy when we were returning from a trip and wanted to drop things off at ungodly hours. Otherwise, we are quite happy with the price and convenience of our 5x10 unit and expect to make good use of it over the next few years. read more

You can judge this book by its cover. The property is clean, secure and well managed. People make a difference, and Carole the property manager is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. Very friendly service and was very easy to sign up, do online automatic payments, notify of vacating, and check out! We had never stored before, so it was nice that they were able to estimate space requirements well and actively search out a good deal based on current promotions. Didn't do much price comparison with other facilities and definitely some interesting traffic coming in and out, which made me a little nervous while doing large moves. Would have appreciated a trash can/dumpster closer to the back of the facility in addition to the front. There was a small amount of space under the wall of our unit to the next, and some random small items got swept under and in. Overall, a positive experience. I am moving from Eugene Oregon to Santa Rosa and wasn't sure I would need a storage unit. I purchased the storage unit via internet and it would not let me pick a date ahead sooo I had to pick the day I was purchased the unit 8/23/2022. My move in date was 8/26/2022 I paid to make sure once I drive 10 hrs and 500 miles I had somewhere to put my stuff in the event the house I was moving into didn't have room. I only had the U-Haul for a couple days to add to the stress. Once I arrived in Santa Rosa I had movers unloaded the U-Haul and much to my surprise I didn't need the storage unit after all. I called public storage only to find out I would NOT get a refund of $498.00 and Public Storage Would NOT even pro-rate for a couple days. Public Storage tuned off the auto pay and then would rent the unit out again only to make another $500.00 grrr rip off. I was going to use the refund to pay the movers. I would not use public storage ever again totally a rip off and price gouging. Life happens and it was better for me to be safe than sorry BuT to be pro-active I got taken advantage by public storage for $498.00. read more

This was not the first place I looked at when searching for a storage unit during a recent move- however after reading the terms/agreement at a nearby competitor, I respectfully declined (as soon as I was able to stop laughing) due to the borderline criminal no-liability clauses. Not the case here! I actually felt good storing my beloved Mac and other valuable items and had no doubt they would be safe. I don't remember the last time I wrote a review but I felt this was so bad, I couldn't let this one go. This was probably the worst customer service I've ever experienced, anywhere! Every time I spoke with Diane, she made it seem like I was bothering her. I had a reservation here and when I called to ask if it was an outdoor unit, she replied, "I don't know, it's 6pm I should be getting of work by now." Ok I get it, I called right at 6, then why not just let the call go to voicemail instead of giving me attitude. Then the day of my reservation I did not show up on time (my fault-I got caught up packing!). I apologized and tell Diane that I can be there in 15 mins. She says, "don't come, i'm going to the bank first"-(with a super passive aggressive tone). I ask when she will be back. She says, "I don't know, there are lines at the bank."-again super passive aggressive. I can't truly capture her tone by a written description. Just know that Diane definitely does not care about customers and about the business. I hope that managers or owners screen her calls to capture this huge issue. I decided to find somewhere else to rent because I could not imagine having to deal with Diane, especially when we all have to deal this covid-19 pandemic. I know canceling my reservations won't make or break the business but I will never rent from there, and I will recommend against this place to you and all friends and family. I just went in on Saturday and got a storage unit. They didn't have any available in the size I wanted but both Darcy and Carole took care of me and got me one that would work! They were so helpful and made the process very easy for me! The premises are very clean and I love how secure the locks are. The lock they use make it impossible for someone to cut it or break into your unit! I highly recommend this storage facility. read more

Rented 3 different storage units over the last 2 years at the Hopper Public Storage. I've noticed vagrants living in the storage units and a high rent increase every 6 months or so. The first month we only paid $32 for a 10 by 15ft unit after all the fees and taxes. I'd recommend bringing your own lock to save $20. They have great customer service, we were locked out of storage and the lady, Cristal, stayed after hours to wait for the locksmith to come. We were in the need of a storage while we we're remodeling and I call all around Santa Rosa. Everywhere we called they were either extremely rude or acted like they didn't want our business. Until I call the Public Storage on Hopper. I spoke with Darcy. She was both very helpful and very knowledgable. I told her that we would like to think it over and that we would make a decision by Saturday. She told use we could either book our unit online or come in. Which ever was easier for us.
