Extremely Dangerous & Unacceptable Service* I had a deeply unsettling experience at this Public Storage location. We arrived around 4:30 PM, having been told the facility closed at 6 PM. But at 5:20 PM, the gates suddenly wouldn't open, with no announcement or staff in sight. Left with no safe option, we had to jump the gate to exit--*this is extremely dangerous and completely unacceptable*. I've been renting a storage unit for a while now and my family and I had the WORST experience with this location. The office hours are until 5pm and we were running late, ended up leaving at 5:15pm only to find out we were locked inside with NO personnel on site! We spent almost an hour locked inside bc we couldn't get the gate open and ran out of options so we literally had to call the police to come help us. Horrible experience, this should NEVER happen to anyone, they should always have someone onsite in case of an emergency. Rented Unit (10x15) from July 2023 - June 2025 I want to warn anyone considering Public Storage in Santa Ana about their predatory pricing practices AND their rat problem. What started as a reasonable $268/month for my 10x15 unit quickly turned into a financial and health nightmare. THE BAIT AND SWITCH: July 2023: Signed up for $268/month May 2024: Received notice of rent increase July 2024: Rent jumped to $374/month - a shocking 39.6% INCREASE IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR! That's right - they raised my rent by $106/month after just 11 months. No improvements to the facility, no added services, just pure greed. THE DISGUSTING DISCOVERY: As if the financial exploitation wasn't enough, when I finally moved out in June 2025, I discovered RAT DROPPINGS scattered throughout my boxes of legal paperwork! I was storing important documents that are now contaminated. So not only was I paying 40% more than I started with, I was paying premium prices to store my belongings with RATS! WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU: Here's what I learned the hard way - in California, storage facilities have ZERO limits on rent increases. Unlike apartment rentals that have some protections, storage units are completely unregulated. They can raise your rent by ANY amount at ANY time with just 30 days notice. We had a renovation in our home, so we put our furniture and other household items in a large unit here. All our things were stored in bins and were wrapped in plastic and bubble wrap. The first issue is the rate. Started at 240 and by the time we closed out a year later it was over 500! Really deceptive and not much we could do. It was too much to move again. Second issue was the RATS. We found rat feces in everything and they got into the closed bins! We had to throw stuff out and have everything professionally cleaned. We even brought a couple live rats home with us!! Scared the crap out of my son but he pushed them out on to the street. We paid for insurance but the Vermin benefit is only $250. After all we paid!! Really terrible conditions. The best thing you could do is check reviews and get storage fees in writing. What a racket! read more

My motorhome was stolen from here. The security is a joke here. The thieves just walked in a drove out 13 minutes with my beautiful Fleetwood Jamboree 24D. Never Ending NIGHTMARE!! Zero security, robbed twice in less than 3 weeks. On April 30, 2023 my unit, along with 6 additional units were robbed. SAPD states the suspects used a valid renters code to access the property during regular business hours. The next day I received a rental increase of almost $100, which I had to fight w/the office to wave. My rent "decrease" was only honored/waved for 3 months. Veronica, the manager is the epitome of uncooperative & beyond rude. The office blamed the robbery on old faulty latches. My unit was then left unlocked for 2 days until a new latch could be installed. Less than 27 days later on May 26, 2023 my unit was robbed again!! Numerous police reports and 2 insurance claims later and I've received zero compensation. There's no security past 6pm and the front office rents to anyone especially when it benefits their pocket. I understand they are in business to make money, but they keep raising the monthly rent by over 10% even though if you go on their website they have the same size unit for rent for less than they want you to pay. I feel sorry for people that have a lot of things packed in to the unit, I use it for my 2nd car so it's not a big deal for me to cancel and move my car out. If you are planning to have a unit here, please do not even put this place into consideration. I'll break it down for you with the facts I chronological order. 1. My unit gets broken into, I get a call and went to go check it out, as I opened my unit, everything was piled up on top of eachother like it was thrown in there. I couldn't believe that thieves would just do that. (See pictures bellow) 2. After I made a police report, I talked to Veronica in order for me to move my unit to a different one. I asked her "does this happen often?" And her response was "no, I've been working here for years and I've never really seen something like this" so I continued with the process 3. In that moment I was talking to Veronica, she let it slip that all the stuff in my unit was outside when she found it which means that it was actually HER that threw all my stuff in my unit, not the thieves which in turn damaged many of my items. 4. Time passes and my unit gets robbed once again, I get a call and head over there, this time they took so much more. I called police and police informed me that not only is this NOT a rare occurrence, they get a weekly call reporting something stolen. On average, according to SAPD, they get robbed 3x plus a month! Which contradicts what Veronica said 5. I called Veronica to come down to my unit and she brought another woman with her, I yelled at her for her unprofessionalism and called her out on her lies 6. When I went to the office to move out of my units Veronica said that she had did it, but I didn't trust her so I called corporate and they had to force them to move me out correctly. If you see good reviews, it's mostly Veronica asking for them, but I am here to tell you that this Public Storage is dishonest and not a safe place to store your items! I talked to other people that had their units broken into and they all said that Veronica and other employees are letting these robberies happen, now I can't confirm if these allegations are true, but what I can confirm is that this place gets robbed multiple times in a month and they will lie to you about it! Public Storage - How can you get thing with these hours!! Really 6 -6? - Self Storage Near Me - Santa Ana, California

I rarely leave reviews - but have not been very happy with my experiences with this Public Storage unit. I have rented storage units from Public Storage at other locations before - so feel I can make a fair comparison. The facilities here have been updated - so that is a pro. The staff is generally nice - so that is another pro. However, there are at least 3 big cons. First, after 3 months, they increased my rent dramatically - by over 30%. This is crappy. As I said, I have had several rental units before and this has not happened to me. Of course, they can do what they want, but to me, this is a big unexpected increase. Second - I have RATS visiting my storage space. I have no food stored but, they put rat poison packs in and around my unit (and I assume others). What this does is ATTRACT more rats - because the rats think it's food. So, they (the rats) crawled, pee'd and poo'ed all over my belongings to eat this stuff. Lastly - I have now tried to "move out" of my unit 3 times - did it in person and have called twice - and have NOT YET been able to confirm a move out. I am scheduled to pay again online. So now I have to make another physical trip to the office to confirm that I am actually moved out so I won't be charged another month rent. Moving out should be easy and confirming this should not be this difficult. Hope this is helpful to others. The chunky lady in the leopard dress at the location in was extremely RUDE and extremely unhelpful. She must have had a horrible day and took it out on others. She cussed at me and told me it was private property and slammed a door in my face before I could even ask her for help or if she worked there. I called corporate and the customer service rep was the most down to earth and helpful guy ever. He helped me with access to the facility and directed me to my unit. DO NOT STORE YOUR STUFF HERE!! I stored a small apartments worth of items (furniture, electronics, kitchenware, etc.) in a 10x10 unit for a year while i was out of country. In those 12 months the unit was broken into 4 times and stuff was stolen each time. Each time I confronted the office they ignored my complaints and told me to get a better lock or two locks (which I did and it did not deter the thieves). Management here does not care and your unit will not be secure no matter what measures you go to. On top of all that the insurance that comes with the unit does everything to make it impossible to submit a claim and have it approved. If you're looking to pay monthly to donate your stuff to a thief this is the place for you! read more

I have been renting a 10 x 30 size storage unit from Public Storage since March 2020 beginning in Lake Oswego Oregon and on Dec 15th, 2023, I moved to a 10 x 30 unit in NE Portland because Lake Oswego PS raised the rent from $215 to $402. the month that i moved in Dec I paid full rent to both facilities but i refused to pay for the insurance twice so they told me that my things are still covered cause I could prove that paid Orange Door Ins for the month of Dec, well PS faid to bill me for insurance from January to March when it was brought to my attention when I went to the office to complain again that there is no lights in my unit and inform them that I was seeing signs of rodents and after discovering signs of rodents I discovered that the unit is infested with rodents and spiders and they still haven't changed my 2 two light bulbs. Chaos began there. I forgot to mention, after making my complaint and calling anyone I could reach to resolve this issue, they raise my rent $75.00 last month. When I came to pick up my stuff, I was shocked. My expensive mattress and my couches were badly damaged by rats. They pooped, peed and cut open the fabric. I notified the management, she didn't care and didn't come to look at the damage. I took pictures for the record and left upset with my belongings. I am considering suing them. Long time customer, the rent has more than doubled. With the recent increase the announced with an exclamation point as if we should be excited about the rent change which is higher not lower. "There is a Rate Change on your Storage Space! " While that is annoying, the worst is that there was a rat infestation, some unit had food, and since the units are not sealed off from each other, my unit was covered in rat feces and urine. Solution they gave me some poison packets, and if i wanted to move units. Hoping that it was over I placed the packets in my unit cleaned it up. Then after a month or so came back, to discover MORE feces and urine, sure the packets were eaten, but damn. Most of my stuff is in bins, and the lids all had droppings. Can I give zero stars? This place does not deserve even one star! My mom has been renting a unit at 400 S. Grand since it was owned by Shurguard. She is 94 years old now. We were exiting the facility in a moving truck at 5pm and I was having trouble entering the code to open the gate. Two female employees were inside the office but the door was locked. I pulled on the door a couple of times and they completely ignored me. I went back to the truck and they both exited out the front door. My mom tried to tell the first one that we couldn't get the gate open and she walked past us without even looking at us. The second one locked the office door and walked quickly past us and yelled over her shoulder " enter your code " and kept walking. After a few more tries someone pulled up behind us and opened the gate using their code. I realized the next day that the star key on the exit keypad was sticking and that was the reason I couldn't enter the rest of the code. In addition, we had a couple of small bags of trash and a few broken down cardboard boxes that we asked if we could throw away and they would not let us use their dumpster...after 34 years renting a unit. Three days in a row I used the bathroom and everytime there was no toilet paper and the bathroom was a mess. The rent for the unit is increasing by $100 a month on the first. Over $600 a month and no toilet paper, no use of a trash dumpster and completely ignored when having a problem opening the gate because it was one minute past closing time. These people here don't know what customer service is. Walk by a 94 year old asking for help who has been renting for over 34 years and completely ignore them! Disgusting! read more

Run. There are cheaper and share locations to store your stuff. On day one of move in the unit next to mine was broken into. Poor guy lost many bikes and electronics. Not the first thing you want to overhear on your first day. Not impressed. I git cold feet and didn't move in at all. The place is creepy. Screws all over the unit as it someone is trying to break in from the other units wall. The wall have eyes. It's seems like people live in the units. It's super quiet then you hear pitter patter. Can I do a 0 star? Not only was the single person working never in their office to help us, my gate code didn't even work. So after going back 2 times in one day we finally hit a time where the person on shift was actually in their office. (Btw we tried calling but the phone was in the locked office). Finally, as we return later with a u-haul, we find out that the gate will not open past 6pm. Absolutely ridiculous. So there we were, sitting in a packed u-haul that we have to return TONIGHT and the lady we called for after hours tells us there's no way to get us in. There's a code and a lock for the unit, why can we not have any more access than for half the day? Absolute garbage service, I wouldn't recommend this to my dead grandma. My contract ran out in California so I moved to Missouri to be near my grandbabies. I put everything in two storage units at Public Storage. I had a difficult time finding work here, so I got behind on payments on one unit. The Regional Manager for this site finally not only worked with me but went above and beyond before my unit went into auction. For that, I am grateful. My complaint, however, has to do with the shocking increase in rent. Public Storage increases rent EVERY SIX MONTHS. I had no idea when I rented from them. My large $276/mo unit just increased to $299/mo. That's $23 more. Irks me to the core. Does anyone else have a problem with that?? You need to keep that in mind when renting a unit from this company. They publish competitive prices to start but rent will, most assuredly, increase so you may end up paying significantly more if you rent long-term. If I could do it over again knowing this, I may have rented from a different company. The key language in the agreement is 'MONTH TO MONTH.' That enables them to increase your rent AT WILL. Yeah ... and the 1st month is absolutely NOT FREE. Only until the 1st of the next month. Mine was free for FOUR days. Ridiculous. read more
