I have been storing many personal and business items at this Public Storage for several years. Admittedly, several times I have been late making payments over the years. Although I have had to make late payments, and buy new locks, Helena and Laura (The terrific ladies at the front office) have always been gracious, sympathetic, patient, and altogether kind when dealing with my infrequent issues. I am ultimately pleased with Public Storage, and plan on continuing to store my belongings there. I feel my stuff is safe and secure inside their clean and cool buildings. Supreme gratitude to Laura and Helena!!! The employees "on the ground/on the front lines" who have to deal with the highs and lows of their clients on a daily basis. They stole my stuff from inside my storage space. It's an inside job. They make you buy their lock from their company because it's the only lock that fits the door. They obviously have a master key. They stole my xbox and lots of other expensive items. But the lock was still in place. Buyer Beware! Do not use this place. The hours don't work. The people are rude. After signing a contract, I get a call a few days later saying they needed more money. What?? Thank god I remembered the girls name that told me I was covered 100% from this date to this date and she verified that same info. SCAM. They suggested a lock to us to use and the actual key was on such a flimsy key ring, it fell off my own personal key ring without my knowledge. You would think ok no big deal. They suggested it to me, they must have a way to get in or work around the lost key? NO. The only person that can get the lock off was not gonna be around for a WEEK. No help at all. The facility is quite nice and the office staff are very friendly, but...despite getting an email confirmation of my total cost to move in being a certain amount, the ladies forced me to pay for their insurance and for one of their overpriced locks. Mind you, they just handed me the keys to the lock and it really could have been reused, or as another reviewer stated, one in which they have a copy or master of the key. So many warning bells were going off in my head but I went ahead anyway. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to really check out this place and I have to use it immediately. I will report back if I experience any other suspicious activity. So, I went back to their own website and it plainly states: "You may also choose to purchase a lock, insurance, or moving supplies. These additional items--as well as any taxes and a nominal one-time administrative fee--will be included in your first payment." http://www.publicstorage.com/self-storage-reserving.aspx It looks like these "nice" ladies are forcing customers to pay for these optional items. I will follow up on this. Sorry, I am updating my review again after a phone call to the facility. Spoke to one of the ladies and was told that I had to have a lock in my possession at the time of rental to be able to bypass the lock purchase requirement and also that I could have used my own insurance to cover the insurance requirement but I paid for insurance previously so they just charged me again. Come again? Be forewarned that these items are not required and perhaps these ladies are getting commissions or something that is causing them to mislead clients. read more

I have been a customer here for years. 7 years to be exact. I've always loved these folks with the manager, Helena, always being there to support its tenants and bring a smile to our faces. So was Laura before she moved into her own location because of how amazing she was with the customers and responsible work ethics. However, we now have a gentleman that works at this location by the name of Daniel who answers the phone as if he was stoned out of his mind and asleep at the wheel. Not only does he answer the phone with no customer service responsibility but he answers it and places it on speakerphone 3 feet away from him. Yesterday I called them to take the lock off of my unit which is a 24-hour unit because I was running late coming all the way from downtown Los Angeles to replace my lock. I needed to get into my storage unit to get sky lanterns for a deceased relative whom we were having a celebration for last night. He gave no schitts whatsoever and just regurgitated a robotic and zombie-like answer that he couldn't do anything about it due to company policy. However, for the last 7 years I have worked with Helena and her amazing staff on almost everything else and they have always been lenient and compassionate about their tenants. This douchebag does not belong at this location and needs to be fired. I am now looking for another storage facility to move all my things into because of him only. Do not rent from this place as long as this piece ofshit stoner zombie works there. read more

Laura was awesome at assistant me with my first storage space. She showed me around and ways to get from point a and point b. I ended up with walking in and getting a unit for the summer. I am confident my stuff will be safe here. The building is very clean and has good time frames to access your unit. I have been a customer/client in this location for more than 7 years. I moved since then but have decided to keep my belongings and storage at this location because of the management and staff. They are always friendly, polite and helpful. Helena always calls to remind me of due dates and has been such a wonderful help especially at times when I'm forgetful in paying or when I'm low on funds (when I didn't have a job). She would remind me that late fees are not worth it and sometimes I would get a lecture on that topic lol but I'm grateful that she cares enough to remind me. The facility is large and is well kept. I had an outdoor storage before and although there's dust (that can't be helped) the outside was always well maintained. Now I have an I doer storage and it's awesome. Air conditioned and not as much dust obviously. read more

I had to close my business last year which was in the Northridge Mall. Public Storage was ideally located as it was right next door. The facility itself is quite nice, being women we felt very safe leaving our things there and showing up at any time. I think we had a great experience at this Public Storage in large part thanks to an employee named Monica. Honest and hard working employees. They deserve a big raise. I had a great experience with the PS on Santa Monica Blvd near Highland but had such a bad experience with the PS on Chatsworth in Granada Hills. I almost didn't go to the PS on Shirley but I was desperate because there were no other storage places around the area. I did call 2 others but they both had sizes that were too small for me. I decided to risk it and went to the PS here. I don't remember her name but she has a no nonsense, dry sense of humor personality. She showed me the unit, she explained everything to me thoroughly and she was up front and honest about the costs. So I signed up! read more

I've used other Public Storage facilities in the past. This location is hands down the most customer service friendly facility I've ever been encountered in this field across the USA. Both assistants, Helena and Laura are model employees and do their work efficiently, pleasingly and with a great knowledge of the business, all this done with warm smiles, great professionalism and customer care/service as a focal point. Their interactions with the public should be the training model followed by all Public Storage facilities everywhere. I had the best service I've had in a long time at Public Storage in Northridge today. Laura and Eli were at the front desk when I arrived and Laura took care of me. I needed a 5x10 rather quickly and she showed me all the available options so I could make my decision. The facilities are clean. The paperwork was handled quickly and efficiently and I was on my way home in under an hour. I would not recommend this place fore their lack of professionalism. This storage unit seemed wonderful when i first came to reserve a spot. However, the day i showed up with my UHAL Van full of my belongings i was told that my room was not ready. I only had my van for a few more hours before i had to return it and put in gas. I found it very unprofessional that i had reserved this room weeks in advance and it was not ready for me. They were also very rude about the situation telling me they had called me, however they didn't leave me a voicemail and i had no way of knowing it was them, or if they ever actually called. I ended up wasting an hour of my van rental time waiting for them to find me another unit. I had to take my belongings to a different storage unit, and barely returned the UHAL van on time. read more
