The are no office hours posted at the office. When I called I was told by the attendant who answered that they are not allowed to post their hours. I asked her if she could tell me what time the office would be open tomorrow and she said no. She gave me the number of her boss and I called and left messages for four days running and was never contacted. These business practices are insulting to their customers and my advice is to avoid this business and their shoddy customer service. I just rented my first storage space ever - at the Public Storage location in Novato, Marin County; it has been an excellent experience. Not only is the location secure, spotless and new-looking, but the process of finding and arranging everything was made very easy and painless by the manager, Josephine, who was fantastic. She walked me through everything step-by-step and made sure I understood all the in's and out's of the arrangement. We vacated our unit today to find rat droppings and two rugs and a chair damaged beyond repair by rodents. We left because it is expensive relative to other places and our unit was broken into and ransacked a few years ago. There were no security cameras then. The service is awful and the fee increases each year are unbelievable. Empire in Novato is less expensive for a larger unit and clean with good service. Mill Valley Public Storage is convenient but awful. read more

So, I'm glad to see another reviewer mention the problem with billing not being kept straight~ and for us it has been YEARS, which in essence is a constant worry. Right? If you're on auto-pay it's not full proof. Somehow they keep dropping your info, sending final notices even though you've paid...and so you must do the very frequent check in to make sure all is straight and your stuff still there. The desk people seem to be constantly rotating and not really know much. My one star is for the fact that they happened to cut off my lock and put on their own, I just happened to check before going on a long trip...What a panic!! The desk person had no idea why, but said the regional manager only has that right. So asking for the regional manager's info...they said, "Well, it's a new person and I don't know their info.." ;-O About to leave on a trip and they have their lock on your unit!! It's pretty hard to relax until you straighten that situation out!! Seriously, what is going on? Turns out they just got the unit wrong, someone died and they cut off the wrong lock via the estate person mis-stating the unit number. BUT HEY! Why can't you check your paperwork first on your end to see WHO? rents which units and double and triple check???!!! Yes, location is convenient but you have to know how very unorganized they are and not quite sure who is really in charge~ quite a stressful situation. read more

I will give this storage facility three stars although in reality it might be slightly less. But the place is clean and dry and easily accessible. Staff tends to not follow through with what they say they will do in the office. Other than that the place is fine as Storage facilities go. read more

WATER LEAKS from poor roof maintenance in multiple units and UNETHICAL rate increases. My first floor unit had water leaking in from the ceiling for many months I'm guessing based on the amount of mold that grew on my wedding gown and keepsake photos. When I spoke to the person on duty she nonchalantly said oh yeah, a couple of people reported leaks in December 2020 and we had to have the roof repaired on multiple buildings. They offered no help or support as I tried to clean out my unit. And they jack up your rate repeatedly when you are on autopay unless you go in and complain. Our rate had gone up to $360 for a 5x10 unit when you could rent a new unit for $230. The insurance they offer with the unit barely covers any damages. read more

9/12/16 The gates don't open it is 10:42am and the office door is lock and the older woman is sitting at the desk on her cell phone. I told her the dates don't open... She says I don't wk her on a regular sorry come back another day. Ugh. Customer service sucks. The customer service here is terrible! One lady brings he baby to wk. she is rude and doesn't offer any assistance. The first gate to the left has been broken for several months and yo have to use the other gate and go all the way around the premisses. read more

DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION, or ANY PUBLIC STORAGE PLACE! Roof leaks, destroyed priceless photographs, my bed, stereo, etc. Their management was not only unwilling to help out, but very curt, and unsympathetic. I called their district manager who did not return my call. I called their customer service who was powerless to help me out with out help from the district manager. I did PAY for insurance, which they outsource. The company that they recommended did not return my calls, and has no operator to speak to. In addition to being overpriced, they negligently left a GAPING hole in the roof. Avoid at all costs. read more

Guy was a jerk, it was a few years ago, but the bad experience lives on.... I was looking for a small short term storage space, I walked up to the counter around 11:55am to ask a few questions, the guy was on the phone, I waited for him to get off, no big deal. He hung up at noon, then proceeded to take a 1/2 hour lunch break, Thats right, he closed the office, kicked me out, ate a sandwhich in his car and read comic books. I had a few questions about renting. ..what was the cancellation policy, hours of access, did they have fire insurance or sprinklers. Had they ever had problems with theft... the guy just acted (or was really dumb) I asked to see a copy of the lease, and he refused saying I could only see the lease if I was going to rent a space..... well how would I know if I was going to rent unless my questions were answered to my satisfaction, or I could see the lease. I rented the space, and was allowed to review the lease(which had all kinds of stuff biased toward the owners of the property), no protection or coverage at all for my contents. It was many pages with tons of fine print. The attendant said "nobody reads it all", they just sign it. well thanks but no thanks..... I took my biz elsewhere, and you should too! read more

I'm updating my review from last week out of exasperation for their lousy billing practices. They cannot keep track of who owes what! I received 3 calls when I was there for payments that I didn't owe, and today received an email showing a past due and future balance! There's no number to call on the email and a DoNotReply@ address. When I called, I got stuck in a phone tree and the only live person I could find was a very nice sales guy who could not help me with an existing account. Do not use this storage facility!!. I had a written confirmation for an outside unit for the price of 364 with ,the first month $1. On moving day we called to confirm an arrival time for move in and were told that we had an inside unit for 399 with no first months $1 promotion. I had a written confirmation which they refused to honor. The person we dealt with was very rude and couldn't care less about our business. What's the purpose of a confirmation if they're going to change the price and location of the unit. Moving day is stressful enough without having to deal with poor customer service and worthless business practices. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!! read more

I called Public Storage to inquire about available units at the Mill Valley location. The agent at the calling center was courteous and intent on making sure I actually rented a storage unit and made an appointment to check out a unit. Who needs an appointment to check out a storage unit? I got multiple calls from the main office inquiring if I was ready to rent a unit. I finally made my way there and the lady at the location was very courteous and doing a fine job explaining the contract. However, the $1 special turned into a $63 special (a way over priced lock at $18, forced insurance of $11/mth and a "processing fee". The day after we moved in, we already received a bill for the following month. Nobody likes bait an switch tactics like this. read more

I used storage while I was away on my trip for a few months. I got $1 for the first month and some other charges which was still a deal! It's a great place by the freeway outside the city. Evelyn is the woman who greeted me, showed me the area and very efficiently produced the contract etc. She's very friendly and very knowledgeable and so far so very good! read more
