DO NOT RENT A UNIT HERE. DO NOT DO IT.
My experience here was awful.
Broken AC in my unit, so it was hot all the time.
Also, BUGS. So. Many. Bugs.
ASK TO INSPECT THE UNIT BEFORE YOU PAY. I WAS NEVER OFFERED THIS. HAD I BEEN OFFERED IT, I WOULD NOT HAVE PAID $121 TO RENT A 5 X 10 UNIT THAT WAS HOTTER THAN HELL.
They also jacked up the prices and when I called they told me that they couldn't tell me why. That it was corporate. But their District Manager told me why. (Hi Terrence!) It is because their facility is old and needs renovation, so they hike up the prices to pass along the cost to me, the tenant. He also told me that if they rent to you with a "$1 FOR THE FIRST MONTH" special, they are going to jack up your rent. So your rent will go up by about $20 a month for no reason. You are better off renting with Extra Space Storage who have newer, air-conditioned units where you will not sweat. And no bugs.
Read on before you rent space here.
#1) They will tell you when you rent the unit that you need to take their insurance to rent. YOU DO NOT. This is a lie. But I was told repeatedly that it was a requirement. That made my rental price go up.
#2) The facility is old and falling apart.
#3) When I originally rented, the until they gave me was on the second story. That means you have to climb and haul your crap up a rickety ladder to a door in the wall that is about 15 feet up. This door does not have rails or any kind of safety feature.
#4) Feeling unsafe, I asked for a unit on the ground level. I was assigned a space in the part of the building where the 600 numbered units are. When we opened the door to go to the unit #686, the climate was instantly hot. HOT. To the point that going from one room where the 500 units are, to the 600 unit area, the temperature difference was noticeable. I complained at the front desk and was told to purchase a set of bucket/humidity pellets for my unit. That was the answer. BUY THIS THING. I want to note that the humidity pellet/bucket thing I bought was priced 3xs more expensive than if I had purchased it at Home Depot. So was the lock. Do not purchase here.
#5) In the times that I returned to the unit, I repeatedly told the employee on duty that it was stiflingly hot in the area that I was in. EVERY TIME I went to the unit I was dripping in sweat in minutes. It was not 80 degrees as they claim. It was more like 85+ degrees in there. Imagine, moving heavy boxes in an 85-degree coffin. NOPE!
#6) I received a notice in my mail that they were hiking up my rent. I decided that because of this, I would vacate the unit. This was on 4.6.17. I called them on 4.7.17 to say I was vacating and would like my money for the month back. They told me I missed the date to vacate and get my money back by one day. And that they would not return my money. Imagine that. I paid for an extra month - IN A COFFIN HOT SPACE AFTER COMPLAINING REPEATEDLY.
#7) First I spoke to Brenda, the manager. Unhelpful. I called customer service. Unhelpful. I called the district manager, Terrence. Now here is where the situation is laughable. Terrence told me he could not give me my money back. He then proceeded to say that they never say the units are air conditioned, but rather "climate controlled" and that he had been in the facility on 4.5.17 and inspected it and that everything was OK. Um, I had been to the facility this week and nope, still coffin hot. At some point my complaints should have warranted that someone offer me another unit in a cooler portion of the building. They did not. NEVER ONCE. Neither did Terrence. He offered me a "credit" on the inflated rent and would not give me my money back for the extra month I paid. (He even claimed that he would fire someone for not reading me their 'script' about insurance properly.) Imagine that. He can fire some low-rate clerk, but can't give me back the $121 I paid in advance for a no air conditioned unit. SOUNDS PRETTY DRAMATIC, right?
