My storage unit flooded in August or September 2025 and the managers never contacted me! It wasn't until I went to move my belongings into a smaller one when I noticed it had flooded! Due to my belongings being exposed to the water for 3-4 months I now have significant contamination to my belongings! I paid my storage unit on time and most of the time I paid my storage bill early! I am devastated! I am disabled and now I am going expected to lift every tote/box and itemize each item! It's not a surprise that is going to be a lot of work for me! I have recently have suffered two heart attacks so on top of my already horrific health issues this is a nightmare! My son rented a storage unit for two months. Three days after paying, he tried to cancel because he no longer needed the storage unit. He was initially told that they would refund his credit card. He paid $161.85 for two months. They refunded him $21.85 for a lock fee. After he was told he would be refunded the money, he noticed after a week that he didn't get a refund and was told that they were not going to refund the money. He called the help desk and was told again that they would not refund his money. This place is not reputable, and this is bad business. They could have at least given him one month's rent back. read more

We set up our storage prior to moving because it was during the weekend when we knew they'd be closed. We hired four movers to meet us on Sunday morning to unload. The gate code would not work, and it cost us $100.00 for the hour they stood around waiting for the manager to call us back. My wife and I finally told them that if they didn't call us in the next 5 minutes we were going somewhere else. They did call then and got us in, but it cost $100.00 because they took an hour to call back. read more

With storage being tight in the Lawrence area, my friends told me it would be months before I found a climate controlled unit. When I contacted customer service, they encouraged me to check the online site everyday. Two days later I found an opening and met the best customer service rep ever. Hazel walked me through the process, gave me a tour of the facility, and went over all the benefits of the storage program. She listened about what we wanted in a facility and explained the security enhancements of the newly built, 2023, facility. The price for the storage was as advertised on the web with an additional small fee for insurance (which is a must as primary insurers push back on insuring storage). All in all Hazel presented a great customer experience and a warm welcome to the area. read more

If you want random high price increases this is the place. Started at $190 for a 15 x 30 at 2223 Haskell in Lawrence, KS. Three months later 21% increase to $230. Ten months later 34% increase to $309. Eleven months later a 25 % increase to $388. I am guessing there are enough people that will put up with the increases versus going through the effort and cost of moving their stuff. They now are advertising the same unit for $286 online to lure with 50% off first month someone in. I moved and got the same amount of space at another facility in town for $220 a month. They also used corrugated metal for the outside wall, which seemed to create enough of an access for me to find animal droppings at least a couple dead mice. read more

A terrible place! Bait and switch with rates. You are quoted one rate online, but when you go to complete the arrangement, they give you a higher rate. Our unit was flooded and the manager said it was just the cement floor "sweating" that soaked the boxes. And good luck making a claim for insurance - you'll never see your money. read more

Website errors caused 2 errant billings when I was trying to register online. I had to pay a 3rd time in person. When contacting support they told me I should just dispute the charges on my card because they won't reverse the errant charges on their end. read more

We used the Public Storage place on 23rd and Haskell for our belongings when we moved overseas. When we returned, our stuff was totally RAT INFESTED. The rats had brought in food from OTHER UNITS and nested in two of our upholstered chairs. There was insulation from the ceiling (two separate holes )all over the place, not to mention....oh god....all of the rat shit everywhere. There was also tons of rat poison pellets that we did not put in there sprayed all over the back. Which means they opened our unit, saw what was happening and just tossed poison in there. It was disgusting. The rats were still in there when we got to the back! They were huge, I am not exaggerating at all. I will reiterated that we did not have any food stuff whatsoever in our belongings. When we complained to the attendant, he did not care at all. AND that we had better clean all of that shit and torn up insulation up or they would charge us a fee. He said that they weren't responsible and to call the insurance people that we paid for for almost 3 years. They won't answer the phone. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE if you have stuff that can be ruined by rats. read more

I have been to the Public Storage in Lawrence KS on 3 occasions (not including today). Two out of the three times, the door was locked in the middle of the afternoon and no one was visible inside. Because there were no available storage spaces elsewhere in the area at that time, I reluctantly rented a 5 x 10 space. That was my first mistake. My second mistake was to believe what I was told over the phone regarding the first month rent. It turned out to be baloney and the cost was far higher than I was told. Today I went in to pay for my second month's rent (hoping I would soon find an opening elsewhere) Once again, around three in the afternoon, I found the door locked and no one in sight. Since I am very reluctant to give my credit card number to these people, I will have to make another 20+ mile trip (one way) to pay my bill. I would recommend to anyone that they look elsewhere for their storage needs. read more

Public Storage provided a storage space for half its cost (as the unit we were looking for was smaller than the one available). The staff was responsive and went out of their way to be helpful. They will force you to purchase THEIR insurance policy before they will rent you a spot and then when you look over your contract it states that you don't have to purchase insurance. This place is like a pay day loan company and they will refuse to give you a refund after they make you pay for a month and a half and you only use 3 weeks of the storage. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Very nice setup for storage... the staff are friendly and helpful, the process is straightforward, the units I saw were clean and totally dry. I dealt with Rebecca and Tina, both were helpful, friendly and professional. Just be aware that units are not always available, so some people apparently reserve storage months before they need it in order to be sure they get a unit. I rented a unit from this location almost a year ago for only a month. When I rented another unit yesterday, the agent, Kandice, greeted me by name as soon as I walked in the door! She was great my first go around, but I didn't expect her to remember me after only a single meeting and a few phone conversations. She remembered conversations we'd had during one meeting a year prior! She's amazing, sweet & great at her job!! My unit was clean & easy to get to. I will ALWAYS rent from Public Storage! This place and business model takes advantage of the elderly and those who would be potentially desperate. They have raised the price on my grandmas unit at least 6 times in the last 2 years. Started at $135 and and now at $188. She is old fashioned and pays all her bills through the mail, yesterday she received a voicemail that the rate increased and that her last payment wasn't enough and that she needed to be there by 6pm to pay the difference or be charged a late fee. She doesn't get home until around then. I went to public storage today to settle this. The lady there wasn't able to undo the late fee and told me to speak with her boss. Her boss only responds to voicemails and still hasn't gotten back with me so I called the district manager and same deal. He only responds to voicemails. I'm usually the type to only leave reviews if they are positive but this is a Bad business, avoid. read more

I sent a package out on Friday from this location for overnight, which I was told by the gentleman at the front counter because the DMV in Jefferson City would be closed on Saturday that it would be delivered the next business day, which would have been Monday. I came in today Tuesday because it said the package had still not been delivered and action needs to be taken. I told the lady at the front counter what happened and she said she would go check on it. She then comes back and tells me that I have to go online and reschedule the delivery, why do I have to do that when I paid $23 for this and was told it would get delivered on Monday by the end of the day? She then proceeded to get rude with me at the counter and started acting like I was no longer important and started helping the next customer in line, no have a nice day or anything at all. This the rudest person that I have ever dealt with at this location and I will not be coming back. The part that gets me is that I was lied to and no one apologized for giving me false information. I will be contacting the postmaster and I will be getting my money back. read more
