We signed a paper contract when they dropped off the unit, although I don't really remember signing a contract. But then 3.5 years later, they sent us a digital contract and asked us to sign it. But because I don't remember the paper contract, I refused to sign the digital contract. Even though we were paying every month on time for the last four years, they refused to give us one more month with the unit because we refused to sign the contract. Additionally, after returning the unit, my credit card was charged two months in a row, and I had to call the company to get a refund on my credit card. I would recommend the business because the delivery and pickup of the unit was simple. But everything else involved with renting this unit, I don't recommend.

It was a good price for the unit I had but it is older than the other locations. They do not have any carts or pulleys to help you move your stuff. The doors are old. Someone put an unknown lock on my unit, never told me when the lock would get cut, said my account was behind (it wasn't) and then had it tagged for auction. Jamie was amazing. She is in the office (before it was extremely hard to find someone on property). She followed up quickly. She called proactively. All great customer service. She deserves a raise :) I hope her supervisor realizes the wonderful level of customer service that she provided.

Just like their so-called corporate office, you'll end up getting transferred right back to the same location you're already having issues with. There is no real customer support--just a loop designed to avoid accountability. If you're okay with being price-baited, lured in with easy online setup, and then hit with steep rate increases within a few months--with little to no clear communication--then by all means, this is the place for you. Otherwise, don't bother. I would not recommend Extra Space Storage in Elkridge, MD. The manager, Ryan, is extremely rude and repeatedly reminds customers that he is "the manager," as if that excuses poor customer service. The overall attitude from staff has been dismissive and unprofessional. I also learned that Ryan and another employee, Jessica, placed comments about me in their internal system that were completely inappropriate. I attempted for weeks to pay my bill online but the system would not allow it. The month of February being shorter caused the system to push the next month forward, and it would not accept payment for the prior month online even though it could be paid in the lobby. The payment methods should function the same way, but they did not. Instead of addressing the technical issue or the customer service concerns, the facility attempted to move forward with eviction notices. When I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, their corporate office responded only about the fees being correct and never addressed the behavior of their staff or the service issues. The rent for my 10×10 unit increased from $120 per month to $172, which is a significant jump. I also noticed many units on my floor with red locks, which suggests other customers may be experiencing similar problems. If you're considering storage, you may want to look at smaller, locally owned facilities instead. In my experience they tend to treat customers with more respect and understanding. I will be leaving this facility, but on my own terms.

On loading day seven guys came and were done with our very full house within about 4.5 hours. Three days later (it was our request to delay delivery and unloading) four of them met us in Vermont and within 6 hours had unloaded everything to the locations in the house that we requested. They were interesting, funny, dedicated, and hardworking. We would highly recommend them and would use them again.

My friend and I live in the same complex and moving to another unit across the parking lot. So, we need her place and my place moved into one space. We have packed everyone up and though we were ready to go. They called me to confirm my move today and spoke with Chris. We went over the items and then the price. He even threw in a free kitchen packing kit and said the guys would help. Cool. He also gave me discount and I was happy. Kion calls me an hour later asking me to confirm the move. What? I spoke to Chris. We go over things and he tells me we are good to go. I am emailed a confirmation and then see a different price. I call back and speak to him again and he says, oh, that is an estimate but we would be done before that price. Then, I get a call from Mike. He wants to confirm my move and inventory. What the heck? He says his notes are confusing so he wants to check. We go over things, AGAIN. He then tells me that it sounds like more work so, he is going to send 5 guys instead of the original 2 guys and a truck because it's gonna be a big job and that it would take 9-12 hours and double the price that I was told. Umm, what? For a 2 bedroom apartment?? He tells me I can speak to his general manager, Kion. I literally confirmed with him before! I literally start crying because I am already stressed from preparing to move in a timely manner before the 31st. Kion and I speak again and he won't even let me get a word in and trying to say that the numbers Mike estimated are correct and that there is no way it wouldn't be a full day job. When you contact customer service via text, they take HOURS to get back to you. Then if you're don't reply to their text within 2 min, they close out the conversation and you have to start from scratch. So if you're driving, or showering, or left your phone in another room, you have to start from scratch. Working with this company has been one of biggest regrets in life. Worst thing is I'm paying 300 month for them to basically hold my items hostage, and I can't seem to be able to schedule anything.
