Although I just recently rented a space the young lady Richere was so nice to me so helpful I always have a hard time doing stuff online didn't seem to bother her to go the extra step to help me out even show me the unit in the space and she also informed me that rates can go up and down so it was giving me a heads up cuz I read reviews and people made me nervous but they warn you ahead of time so I just rented it I don't know what the future will hold but I do know that they were very nice and I'm very very happy with them so far especially the young lady who helped me read more

Very easy check-in process. I made an appointment for 9:30 am on a Sunday and the young lady working was there on time. Very friendly and explained the process and costs to me. She showed me to my unit and answered all my questions. I have never used public storage before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Overall the place looked clean and was well lit. I like the fact that I can drive in and park to remove my items. Big plus for me is that it is down the street from me on Clark. I am going to assume that based on the fact it took me 6 months to get a space that this place is very popular :-) read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. We had issues moving in since I was given a code that did not work. That day I was not able to talk to anyone to help me with this issue. There was no one on-site, the time kept getting changed to when he/she will be back in the office and no one picked up any of the calls I made. I had to change the date of my move-in due to this issue. And now they're increasing the price of the unit. I tried talking to someone to ask why I paid $40 the first month, then $60 the following month, and I've been paying $94, only to have it change again next month to $104. The only way to talk to someone is through their "chat now" option online and was told it was "incremental price increases" yeah duh, but why. I'm done. Here's to hoping it'll be "easy" to get out of this hole. read more

This place is in serious need of property management help. I rented a 5x10 locker. The process of renting was fine. When I started to move items in, I noticed that the drywall of the adjacent locker was so loose that one could reach in to my locker. The adjacent locker was vacant at the time. I brought it to the attention of the onsite manager. She said that she would report it to maintenance and make sure that locker would not be rented. I checked back 2 days later - no fix. I asked again and was told that I can move to another local and the adjacent local would not be rented. Really? No maintenance person available to fix so I have to hassle with a move? I learned that this is the quality of the property. This past week, I packed the car and drove over to drop off items only to find the entry gate was broker "until further notice". No email or text to owners? Good thing that I hadn't driven far. Went back the next day and the gate was being repaired - great. Only to find that the most convenient elevator was broken and only the back elevator was available. Then, on 2 occasions I found people hanging out in the locker area just sitting on the floor. I understand that people in challenging circumstances need a place to go during the day and to store belongings, but it was uncomfortable to be alone on the locker floor with people sitting on the floor hanging out. The end of the story - I moved my belongings to a competitor facility after 1 month. The wall of my unit was still not fixed and, despite promise to the contrary, they rented that unit out. read more

Renter beware: these are some SHADY folks running this place. Now that I'm finished renting with Public Storage, I finally feel comfortable sharing my review on these storage units. I reserved my space online and that process was fine. No issues on that end. But from my first visit onsite to sign the paperwork and get assigned a unit, the staff at Public Storage was not honest and were very misleading. Some examples: I was told if I didn't buy one of their locks, they would not be able to give me the unit and I would have to come back when I had my own (which seems absolutely ridiculous; nevertheless I spent the $20 (!!) on a pad lock because I didn't want to deal with it). Additionally, they told me I HAD to purchase insurance on the unit. I told them perhaps my homeowners insurance covered it and that I would check that. They said I had to at least sign up for their insurance in the meantime. While going through the documents with them, I read the fine print about how I was NOT required to have insurance, and confronted them about it. After a long back and forth, they finally admitted that I didn't HAVE to have it, but that it was strongly advised. There is a big difference! How many people don't actually read through that and spend unnecessary money?? If I wasn't in the process of selling my home and needing to store stuff ASAP, I would have walked out right then because of how dishonest they were. Logistically, it was frustrating to go to the unit in the morning and find all of the dollies locked up, with no staff onsite. If we wanted to have access to a dolly in the morning, we had to contact them the day before during business hours to arrange to have one unlocked. With one elevator, I also found it frustrating at times, because if you have multiple people moving in/out at the same time, it was not pleasant waiting for it. Finally, after renting for a few months, the rent was increased by about $50 month. Overall - I would not recommend this place for storage. There are plenty of other places in the city. read more

I had a unit at this location for over 5 years. It was always clean and dry and I had no problems opening the garage gate or accessing my unit. The elevators are out sometimes but that's due to issues with the building. I will say service definitely improved when Cathy became the site manager. She's very responsive and helpful. I recently closed out my unit and I really appreciated her support through that process. Would recommend this location. read more

On the plus side: Cathy, a new manager at the Clark location near Montrose, was super helpful. While we were existing customers, she proactively found us a better solution for what we needed and won our loyalty! I also like the new "contactless" way to open the car gate - via their app. On the minus side: the elevator needs some maintenance, as it doesn't always stop evenly with the floor levels and which makes moving heavy objects on wheels tricky. read more

Beware "Sale" pricing!! We rented a space at this location with an online discounted price. There was noting in the terms and conditions to indicate that the price was for a limited time (except that the rate is month to month). After a couple of months we receive a bill for a rate that is almost 35% higher than the contract rate. Effectively, they removed the discount- No notice, no explanation, nothing! I called them to see if there was an error somewhere and they answer with "Yeah, that's the new rate. It's the market price." No, that's the textbook definition of "bait and switch". read more

I've used several storage locations over my 17 years in Chicago and this place is by far the best! The units and facility are always clean, the staff is extremely friendly & helpful, and the rates are quite reasonable. The indoor, gated loading dock is a huge bonus when moving stuff in and out of storage in the winter. I just moved to the west coast and I hope by the time my things arrive in California I'll be able to find a facility here that is comparable in quality and convenience. read more

I don't normally leave reviews, but when they're warranted I feel it's necessary to help not only businesses bring in more loyal customers but also just to share a little love for exceptional staff. Overall my storage unit was clean, rodent/dirt free (ish) could probably use more dusting/cleaning, and they have resources to help you move. (Carts, big walkways etc.) From initial renting to unit move out, Jackie (property manager) was unbelievably helpful, knowledgeable, fast and just kind! Very friendly. And funny. I was only in my storage unit for a few months, and during one of the months I needed help with one of my payments. They let me make payment arrangements to satisfy my term and the move out process was extremely easy. I strongly recommend renting here. read more

Several large items of mine were stolen from my locked storage unit. The lock was intact leading me to believe it was picked or someone at Public Storage had access to spare key at the facility. My husband and I reported this to the management - I'm guessing whoever stole our items entered other units as well. Also the garage door has been broken several times when I have visited allowing anyone to walk in without a code. read more

Would never rent from Public Storage again. Three months after you move in they raise the rent 30% (a HUGE increase on any rental property). Went from $85/mo to $112 after three months. Then another raise after 7 months. The place is dirty and really old. I found multiple dead mice in my locker over the year. read more

If I could go lower than 1 star I would. Stay far away from this place. Finding myself in a tough situation where I needed to store a few boxes while moving apartments, I found myself at this the Public Storage North Clark location. I made it a point to move my stuff out a few days early than the end of the month so as to not incur additional charges. Upon move out I informed the office and left with a smile on my face. A few weeks later I recieved a bill stating that I owed more than a weeks worth of storage fees for the next month. I had an extended conversation with the gentleman in the office and he apologized and informed me that the charges would be taken care of. At the end of the month I recieved yet another bill. This time I took up the matter with their regional office who again stated that the charges would be taken care of. another week passed and I found myself now getting calls from a collection agency over only about $50 bucks. I am still fighting the jerks at Public Storage for these fees to be waived and the collection item revoked. I would think twice and find another place to store your stuff. read more

This place is a creepy dump. The building is an old factory of some sort... they built the storage units kind of haphazardly inside to fit as many as possible. we got the cheapest that was still a decent size (5'x7 or something...). The door of our storage unit faced another wall that was about 3' from the door, so things had to go in at an angle. Their $1 move in for the first month is... very literal and slightly misleading. It's not one full month unless you start on the first. If you start on the 20th, for instance, you're getting 10 days for $1 then on the 1st paying another full month. Also, they require you to buy their $15 lock; in addition to a $20-30 setup fee. So when all is said and done, it adds up to nearly the full month anyway. worse than anything, the guy who worked there was nearly impossible to understand ... he showed us the unit, then would make comments... i seriously have no idea what he was saying. i just nodded and smiled as if he weren't speaking English. the whole signup process takes about as long as it does to buy a new car. too long. also, they don't have carts for you to use when the office isn't open. they have them, but this place is ghetto and has to apparently lock them up. that was really my last straw... no carts? considering most of the storage lockers involve a walk of several hundred feet down narrow halls past the elevators, that makes the place useless to me. i moved out and canceled my account. what kind of indoor storage place doesn't have carts for people to use ? ? ? I was previously at "The Lockup" ..and that place feels like a Bel-Air mansion in comparison. read more

The location makes storage very simple with a coded entry system, parking inside the building for loading and unloading, carts for renter use, and a massive elevator. Tamara was great! I was able to quickly reserve a unit and move my stuff in within a week, and she made the process of securing the unit and moving in super simple and easy. She was always kind and professional and was able to answer all of my questions. The unit was clean, and the enclosed garage is very convenient. Move-out was also very simple and painless. The only downside was that (at least when I had my unit) the location only had one working dolly. So if possible, I would suggest bringing your own as a backup. Stay away from this place. It's dirty, smelly and the people working there are incompetent (probably why they work there actually) The place flooded (water pipe burst) on a Thursday but they didn't think it was important because they called me on Sunday!! Everything moldy and ruined and had to be discarded. I am sure I could have saved a lot more if these lazy morons would do their job Also someone went in to my unit and stole some stuff. However Public Storage didn't care. They were not willing to look through their video surveillance to find the idiots who did that. I don't care about the stolen things but I think a company who specializes in storing people's stuff would be interested in making sure it doesn't happen again I moved my stuff out and I will never store anything at PS. I reserved a space online, and mistakenly thought they were open until 6pm on Saturday. I casually strolled in at 4:55, and was told they were closing up and I would have to come back tomorrow. No big deal! But i return the next day, after jetting home from work, and arrived at 4:25. Plenty of time to set up my reservation and get my keys. They would not even let me into the office, and insisted that they were 'closing up'. 35 minutes early?? I will definitely not be storing my things there. read more

The desk dudes were pleasant enough on the two occasions I visited, then made an online booking. Our first floor unit is decent and clean so far, not to mention a good size. Tamara was great with all the logistics of making our reservation, and extremely helpful on our move-in day. The facility has a huge loading/parking zone, so you don't have to worry about traffic or double-parking while you unload. The freight elevator is huge, and there are also several heavy-duty carts for loading. This makes moving in and out quite simple, no matter what floor your unit is on. Units are tall (10 ft. at least), providing tons of room for stacking and storing. Highly recommend this place - the low rating comes from previous ownership, so look at recent reviews on here and Google+ for an accurate representation of the facility. read more

THU and her team are wonderful to deal with. Their customer service is wonderful and they do everything with a smile on their faces. The parking garage is rather large and the elevators can accommodate a large amount of boxes and furniture so you don't need to make lots of trips. Very competitive prices for storage.
