Probably one of the most unreliable shops (or business in general) in the northern Virginia area. Paid for dyno time weeks in advanced and 2 days away from my scheduled appointment Ken calls me telling me that there is an "emergency in staffing" so I had to reschedule. A week goes by i get the same call saying their dyno "is broken" and he's not sure if it can be fixed in time for my sat tuning session. Either they are terrible at staffing or their equipment is sub-par, or maybe a combination of both. this place is truly upsetting and they have lost my business. read more

I have a hardtime trusting others with my car, in fact I don't. I've got a case of OCD to make things worse. So like many, I just do all the work I can myself. Well my wife and I just had our second child and if you have kids of your own, you know exactly how busy newborns can be. My baby... I mean my 1997 Supra needed a rear main seal replaced and I needed it done fast. I just didn't have the time to do it myself with all of life's more important responsibilities taking up my attention. There isn't really anyone in our area that is knowlegable in the Supra platform. I had PTuning do an alignment on my previous Supra years ago. I was very impressed on how clean and organized their facility was. They are local to me and I decided to give them a chance with my rear main seal as well as an alignment. To give you an idea of what caliber my Supra is, its a 1997 Limited Edition. The chases has 29,000 miles on it. The built motor has less than 2,000 miles on it. The car has made 1400whp on the current setup. What I'm trying to say is I've got a good amount of money in to this car. I called PTuning to see if they would be able to address my needs. I spoke to Freddy. I can not say enough good things about this guy. He was extremely professional at all times with me. He went above and beyond my expectations. He honored all my requests when it came to my car and my conditions. When he told me I could drop the car off Thursday and pick it up Friday, I was very happy with the speedy turn around. I scheduled my appointment for 10am that Thursday. Dropped the car off and got to see it go on the lift. I got to meet the two gentlemen who would be working on my car. They were both very professional and knowledgeable. I actually felt comfortable leaving the car with them. They were car enthusiasts themselves. They handled my car with the upmost care. The facility is very clean and well spaced, unlike most shops in Northern VA. Tools are organized and each workspace is neat and clean. Left the car with them and they started on it right away. Got a call the next day as promised and Freddy informed me that my car would be ready. He also shared with me that my pilot bearing was not in the best shape and that he could have a new one from Toyota within the hour! Got a call later in the day with Freddy letting me know that the car was going in the alignment machine and that the rear main seal as well as the retainer housing were now leak free. Arrived at the shop and the car was done! Got to inspect the car for myself and it was perfect. Freddy and the staff earned a new customer for life. I would definitely recommend PTuning for all your car needs. Bottom line, no BS, no excuses as to why your car isn't ready on time, estimate was spot on to final price, perfect transaction and service. read more

I was a loyal customer that was happy to be a part of their brand, but then I had major work done there: -They waited until after replacing my engine to tell me that the failure noise I had heard was just the tip of a spark plug that had broken off. -After replacement, they called to find it if I wanted my old engine. I told them yes, then when I went to collect it a couple months later they had already sold it to the same company I had told them I was planning on selling it to. -When I wouldn't accept the manager's (Mike? It's not his real name. I'm guessing he is ashamed of his actual name) deflection of blame he shoved me and tried to square up for a fist fight. His employees pushed a car they were working on in front of him. -Everything they have ever worked on is leaking. Oil, coolant, transmission fluid. The only thing not leaking is my power steering because it has never been serviced. These guys are no good. read more

This shop is very capable. I have used this shop to get my car dynoed a few times and there are certain services I will use from this shop such as alignments and tire mounting and balancing. I have gotten a quote to do an alignment there for $190 which was significantly cheaper than the $430 the dealership wanted to charge me. The only thing that is keeping me from giving them 5 stars is their price. They are a little on the high side for performance shops, but I will say they do a terrific job, from tuning, engine building, maintenance, etc. read more

I really love this place. I bring my 2006 MINI in for any modifications that I need and they are always straight forward and easy to deal with. A lot of my friends are now bringing their MINIs and other cars in and I have heard all great things about everyone's experience. When the suspension on my husband's MINI was acting really weird they not only fixed it but the price was reasonable. The custom alignments are great and I liked how Justin discussed with each of us how we drive and what we expected out of the alignment. He gave each of our MINIs different alignment specs and we are both really happy. Great place! read more

About 9 years ago, I rescued my 1991 from a used car lot in Maryland. I'm sure the original owner loved the car (and paid dearly for it), but whomever owned it before me did not maintain the car much at all. So...during those 9 years I have spent more than I paid for the NSX in making it safer and better, replacing OEM parts when necessary, and upgrading them to better components when it made sense to do so. About 2 years ago, I had a tuning company in Virginia install an AEM Series 1 EMS because a local Acura dealer couldn't track down the cause of an occasional rough idle (long, long story), and it was thought that this would solve the issue. It did result in increased rwhp in the mid-range, but the idle issue couldn't be completely tuned away. A couple of weeks ago (three weeks before my registration expired), I took my NSX to have its penultimate emissions test, and the results looked like an M1 tank had been hooked up to the sniffer. Some values were 400% over the acceptable limits. OMG. So...PTuning had done superb install work on the car before, and I went to them for help. Every now and then you encounter someone who you know is the best at what they do. Bruce Meyers (the Doctor) was one such person who built out the engine on my Ducati 998R...he was the master Ducati tuner in the country. I met with Toan Nguyen, the person who would be tuning my NSX, doing the steady-state dyno runs, and taking care of business. After about a 5 minute conversation, I began to think that I had meet the tuning master for my NSX. My intuition was correct. Toan suggested a well thought out diagnostic plan to tune the car and get it to pass emissions. But the best laid plans often go awry. First, the AEM unit (not purchased from Science of Speed!) repeatedly threw BSOD's on two different laptops. Science of Speed provided an AEM Series 2 ASAP (thank you SoS!). Toan quickly diagnosed a bad injector (which probably had been bad for quite some time). New plugs and larger injectors (365cc) were ordered, a leak down test was performed just to be absolutely safe and sure (all OK), and the tuning + dyno runs began. PTuning called yesterday, stating that they needed to validate the tune by driving the NSX on the road, but my registration had expired. I went to DMV (another very long and typical DMV story), got a 3 day "driving pass", picked up the NSX at PTuning, and took it to an emissions testing facility. En route, I knew immediately that for the first time since I had owned the car...9 years...it was finally tuned properly. Rock steady idle, no issues at all, great acceleration, etc. Now, if it could only pass emissions, I could return it back to PTuning and Toan could complete the final tuning. I waited anxiously in the lobby of the testing facility, fingers and toes crossed...and after what seemed like an eternity, the results were in...PASS! Wow...just wow. I dropped the car back at PTuning, they will finish the tuning, and with luck I'll have my NSX back on Saturday, better than new. So...if you live anywhere near Manassas, Virginia...and you want your NSX (or any other vehicle) taken care of with first class service...I absolutely recommend PTuning. Recently, I went to Ptuning in Manassas to have suspension work completed on my G35-shocks, springs, and a rear camber kit. Although initially impressed, I was far less impressed once I noticed a squeaking noise coming from the front left suspension after the first day. When I emailed them about it, their response was something to the effect of "Well, aftermarket suspensions make noise." That wouldn't be an issue if the work was done correctly, which is was not. After 2 trips to other shops (and a few hundred dollars later), the other shop's mechanics fixed the noise. The result of the noise: an improperly fitted front left strut and an improperly fitted front right spring, which was rubbing. Not only did this cost money and time, it was a safety issue, and I went to Ptuning trusting that they would do good work on my car. The exact opposite happened. read more

I've been going to them for many years. Always honest and to the point. Anyone that has had a negative experience there probably had their car messed up by another shop, brought it there to have it fixed, and got upset about the repair bill. The problem is, if you cut corners because another shop is cheaper, you get what you pay for. Take it to the pros first because if you don't, the repair bill is twice as much. I see it happen all the time. I've heard of people saying that they charge too much. Then I hear their story. I just reply, "well, there you go!" If you can't bankroll your build, don't build it. read more

These guys are pros- they really know what they are doing. Their shop is first rate, and their staff and techs are the best. When you bring a car to to tuner, you have to trust them with your expensive ride, and they take it apart, and put it back together in a way that is custom tailored to your taste. This can involve installing a turbo, suspension, wheels, etc etc. It can get quite complicated. The customer often has ideas of what to do, but ultimately has to trust the tuner for the best selection of parts. Time after time, Patrick gave me solid advise and was extremely patient as I dialed in the exhaust,ride height, the clutch, and throttle settings... My car is perfect- exactly what I wanted. Took my Miata here to initially have a Clutch and Flywheel put in and it went to hell from there. I had a bunch of pieces to turbo my car, and talked with them about getting a compression test done to make sure it could handle the boost. Turns out cylinder 3 was bad, so we did an engine swap. I called JDM Motors and had them deliver a motor to them. They did a compression test to verify the engine and begin working on taking apart the motor so they can replace all the bushings and such, and call me to tell me they actually took apart a 1.8 engine, and essentially blamed me for the fact they got the wrong engine. I told them, well you signed off on the engine, and began working on it, so why didn't you just check the engine number before working? There answer was that they assumed that it was the right engine. I don't know about you but the engine is pretty important, you might want to make sure its the right engine before beginning. Anyway, they tried to blame me, make me pay for that extra work, and told me I had to pay for another compression test. Told them no way as thats for them and the engine shop to discuss, as I paid to have the engine that was going in my car to get compression tested and its not my fault they cut corners. Next they began tuning and told me that the reason why the idle was so bad was cause I didn't have a VTPM and that they were going to charge me for one. I had to go in and show them that on the engine they took off, that I had a VTPM on it. They put the engine I bought in and just left the TPM sensor on it. Now normally I would say, well okay its not a big deal but the VTPM is a very important part of a boosted car.. and since they had to take other parts of the old engine off to transfer to the new one, I would have assumed that the VTPM would have been something that they looked at given its importance on NA Miatas, which they claimed to be experts at. Next we have the O2 Wide band. Now they offered a wide band for $200 but I was able to get a cheaper one from a friend who is sponsored by another company, but at the end of the day it was a professionally new Wide Band. They said that the reason why they couldn't get a good O2 reading was the wide band. I told them to plug directly into the Dyno to verify, or else im not buying there Wide Band. Never brought up again as I'm sure the Dyno's reading showed that their "master tuner" isn't very good at tuning. Now they showed me how they had to fabricate a bunch of parts, and that all made sense, as I bought a used turbo kit, so I expected as much, no big deal I understand that the original estimate of $2500 was for the complete turbo install without added things going wrong. However we originally said that within that price was the installation of the O2 Wide Band, and the harness and installation of the gauge. After they installed everything they kept upping the total price, and for things such as the O2 install which they told me initially was already in the initial pricing.This was all discussed before hand as I had to pay 50% of the total estimate for them to keep the car as long as I wanted. Ultimately its my fault for not getting it in written tangable form. But I still think its wrong to say you will do something and then not do it and charge you more for it. I ended up paying around $6000 and the O2 wasn't the only thing that this happened on.. but was definitely the most costly. I now have my newly tuned car that is now fully boosted and should be perfect! I picked it up while at work, so didn't have time to go over everything with them. But realized I never got a Dyno sheet. they told me it was 220 at the wheels, so I was boosted!. Never get work done that involves numbers and not get a Dyno sheet. Because after all this happened, I went to York Auto to get the tune fixed and find out that it was only 193 HP and they had all the tuning sheets to prove it so I was lied to yet again. Now the tune. I was told that they had a tuner who was a master. I get the car back and the RPM Idle is going crazy by about 300-400 RPMs. I was told by PTuning that this is normal and that because I only paid for 3 hours of tuning that they didn't tune it out. Well when I told York Auto that they laughed saying they could make the tune 100% better in 1.5 hours.. in which they did. So now work finishes and I end up driving the car to Baltimore for a concert. It gets dark out so I turn my lights on and low and behold the car cuts off. Explanation: "we never took into account the lights being on, we didn't tune for that." I went back and They made a simple adjustment, saying that it would be fixed.. but it wasn't. All in all, I don't trust this shop for anything. Physical parts were installed great but thats it. Bring your Miata to York Auto instead. They are Megasquirt certified and the recommended DMV tuner by MS. Also the car was given back without parts put back such as all 4 dash bolts, passenger carpet/side panels............. read more

Came in Saturday morning to get my ST performance coilovers installed as well as wheel and tire mount. Had to wait some time to get them installed which is what I had expected, so I wasn't surprised. After the install, I was shown the ride height I had requested and loved it. Didn't have any issues after the install except my tire going flat which came out of no where but I called them afterwards and they told me to swing by since I had spare and went back. After arriving, I waited about half an hour to have my stock tires remounted for free. PTuning went the extra mile to help out a customer and I greatly appreciate their assistance and knowledge! read more

One of the worst shops iv ever been to. I brought my '10 WRX to them to install a set of KONI yellow struts. No big deal right? A shop of their size should be able to handle something that simple. Boy was I wrong. I dropped my car of and they said it would be a few days. No big deal this was over a holiday weekend I wasn't in a hurry. When I go to pick it up I see my car sitting out front and immediately notice it's not right. The car had a rake like an old muscle car. The wheel gap in the rear had to be 3". I went in asked if my car was done and the teenager at the front desk said yup. I asked for his manager cause I knew what the problem was, they put the top hats of the struts on upside down. While waiting for the manager the tech walks out and asked how I liked it. I told him it wasnt right and he said "eh I think it is" and went outside to smoke a cig. Manager I finally came, said the car was right as well. Soon after the tech walked back in and said you know what your right and they both walked around back. Long story short they had my car an additional few days for a job that shouldv taken one. And then on top of that they were gonna let me drive off with my struts not even put together right. I had planned to have them tune my car and a few other things but I cross them off my list real quick, forget that. read more

I love PTuning! I have a 2003 cobra and have gone there several times. I had some gauges put in the first time and had diagnostics done on the supercharger the second time. Before I took my car to PTuning I took it to a dealership and a specialty mustang shop in Manassas and the result was horrible. The dealership wanted me out of there as quick as possible and wouldn't take the time to even talk to me, and the specialty shop treated me like an idiot. I should have gone to PTuning from the beginning. The staff are very nice, polite, and informative. They won't hesitate to talk to you and even give advice that a dealership wanted to charge 100 bucks for. Their prices are reasonable and they are quick on service. If there is anything needed for my car, this is the first and last place I'm going. read more

Tuning Gods! I had my car "tuned" twice in 3 weeks by mach v in sterling only to get a car that wouldn't start without some serious coaxing. once started it ran extremely bad with a/f ratios so rich the wideband could measure any farther. I asked for a safe tune and left pegging the fuel cut the first two times I left the shop. there owner is the most arrogant and fraudulent person I've ever met. just some back ground on me, I'm an ASE certified master tech, L1 certified and emissions repair certified. this is my 5th turbo build, I'm not new to all this. long story short I went to ptuning 2 days after the second trip to mach v to get tuned. there staff was extremely friendly and easy to talk to. the tuner was very easy to talk to about goals and limits. anyway, I get my car back the same day running like a factory designed car, starts right away every time and they made 60whp more at the same boost and setup that mach v had from me. thanks ptuning for taking as much pride in your work as I do in mine! read more

In short, find somewhere else. I built a turbo civic and brought it here to be tuned. i was having some electrical issues (the TPS sensor had it's wires pinned incorrectly) which they solved and I was appreciative because I wasn't able to figure it out at the time. The first time I brought it in I was having it tuned and the wiring issue diagnosed...it took 3 weeks. They only worked on it once a week and if they had a question or needed authorization for anything they would wait until the end of the day so nothing would actually get finished that day, they would just save it for next week. I know they were only working on it once a week because after the 3 week period, they only charged me 4 hours of labor. On to their tuning abilities. Basically the don't exist. Their tune wont run cold, which they say is because of the idle air control valve. Ive installed three different units 1 of which I know 100% was working and it solves nothing. only 2 weeks after getting the car back i noticed the air/fuel ratios were leaning out so i took it back. Another 2 weeks at the shop and their solution was that they didn't wire the wideband o2 sensor correctly and that "somehow the tune got corrupted". when i got it back it still didn't idle cold and the tune is bumpy as hell. The A/F ratios are all over the place and its way to rich when they finally even out. Plus they charge the most in the area for a dyno tune. They might be able to fool a couple people with nice, new evos and subarus with minor bolt ons that they can "tune" your car but all they do is take your basemap and add fuel or use an aftermarket calibration available from AEM. There is now way they actually tuned my specific car because one datalog would have shown there is no low load tuning. My engine is fully built with custom ground cams, and cylinder heads (intake and exhaust runners), sleeved block and forged bottom end, its a race car, not a factory tuned $40,000 car and that's all they're known for. A majority of their good reviews are from people getting exhausts and minor suspension kits installed. Those are all pre-fab made to fit kits. I didn't see a TIG welder on scene either so i doubt they could actually do any decent custom work. If they claim they can, i wouldnt trust them.The worst part though is that I don't even trust them enough to fix it at this point. PLEASE DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. I FEEL RIPPED OFF EVERY TIME I LOOK AT MY CAR. Just because they lie to you through a smile doesn't mean they have customer service read more
