I contacted the shop to get a quote to have a complete build on my Subaru, I already had the new IAG short block and supporting parts and needed Moore to give me a quote on the build so we could get the ball rolling. Emailed them as requested the entire parts list I had so they could base the quote off that. Waited weeks ....no response, it just happens my son visited them and mentioned that I was waiting for a reply to my install request which he was told they see my email and will respond. Well I never received a response. We are literally talking about THOUSANDS of dollars of work on 1 car (STI) let alone and to have never received a reply is very disappointing! read more

I has to check the car in the shop again yesterday - needed an oil change, a new battery, and I wanted them to give the car the once over to insure it would pass both the VA State Safety and Emissions inspections - and then get it inspected for me. I also wanted them to eyeball the car and check for oil leaks - seems like it is going through oil very fast - and I've been unable to find any leaks, nor detect and oil burning. I dropped the vehicle off yesterday about 1:00 pm. It was ready 24.5 hours later. I picked up the vehicle today at 1:30 pm - paid a very reasonable bill - and proceeded to head off to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles to renew my auto registration. The place is not much to look at compared to modern auto dealerships - but I don't care about that when I go to Moore - I know they know what the hell they are doing - and they won't manufacture a bunch of bogus repairs that I don't need! read more

If you go into any performance shop with a mindset that you know more about their craft than they do, I suggest you not waste that shops time and do everything yourself. When it comes to Moore Automotive, this logic also applies. Before leaving my 2011 EvoX GSR in the hands of the personnel at this facility, I did my research. Read reviews, read replies, asked plenty of questions. They are simple and ask you "what are you looking to do?". As this may seem to be an easy answer, when asked, it may come as a surprise to you that you have no clue really. With my platform, I can go many routes as this car is versatile. From spirited driving, drag, circuit, autocross and even the true nature of the car, rallying, plus a few others. You should never buy a bunch of parts and dump them Into a car and say "I'm just wanting x amount of hp and make it do cool fast n furious stuff!". Please have a seat as this is not the mentality to have when conducting business with Moore. Have a realistic goal and plan, plan, plan!!! With any vehicle learn what your car is truly capable of. "I saw a guy on somewhere make 1000hp on a stock block" is a lie and you should be smart enough to know that the possibility of this happening is unrealistic. If you talk to Bill, like I did, or any person there, you will be given information to help you achieve your goals alongside their recommendations. This is based off experience not your expectations. I started talking with Moore back in 2018. After COVID i was able to get in my appointment and after a 500mile break-in time with my new clutch, I have never loved my car more than when I first drove it off the lot. I am extremely impatient but they are even more patient with me and yet they set aside techs dedicated to your car for your build. I had underlying issues they pointed out and I green lit the fixes as I wanted my car to be in the best of conditions for how many miles are on it. I wanted my car to go fast but with no purpose. Now, my goal is to max out hp on pump gas. I trust this organization wholeheartedly with my car as they are experts and master of their craft. As I am military, I move a lot. When I'm ready for the next stages of my build, I will make the trip back to Moore Automotive to obtain my desired goals. I used to go to Moore for everything my '95 Honda or '98 Toyota truck needed. I've been going there for over 13 years. HOWEVER, the place has new ownership now and I will never take any vehicle to them again. I had one bad experience after another over the past few months. I took the car in for a routine oil change and left there with a non-working water temp gauge. They lost a screw during some work and no replacement was available. They promised to fix it at no charge, but when I took it back (I'd called to be sure it was OK that I come in), they didn't have the screw. I had to take it back (and take my time to drive there, leave it and pick it back up) 3 times for them to actually fix the problem. After the 120K mile servicing at the final fixing of the gauge, my car overheated for the first time ever. I found that my radiator was mostly empty, which tells me they didn't really complete all the services they said they do during the 120K servicing. What else didn't they do? I have no idea. The staff is generally unfriendly (unlike the original Moore guys). Nevermore...nevermore. (Never Moore!!! No pun intended originally. It's pretty funny, though.) read more

I've been taking my car to Moore for my performance needs for the past couple of years. They have very experienced technicians and a very good tuner. Their location is great for people in NoVA. I had been taking my car to IAG, but it's just too far to go especially if I needed some major work done. Moore recently installed a new engine and turbo kit on my Subaru. It began as a engine rebuild job, but the engine was too far gone so I bought a brand new replacement engine. The turbo kit required custom fabrication of intercooler piping, down pipe and uppipe. Custom fabrication of an oil cooler mounting bracket to fit in the original TMIC location was also required. Lastly custom coolant reservoir and overflow tanks were necessary as the custom intercooler piping prevented the OEM tanks from being used. While the car was in the shop I also had a new set of Coilovers installed, and some smaller things like Hella Horns installed and HID Headlights wired up. Moore did a top notch job in making all the custom parts, and when the job was done the car runs flawlessly. The tune by Chris is great. read more

I want to start off by saying I had high hopes for this place. They state they do everything from inspections, oil changes, to performance part installs and dynojet runs. I wanted some custom exhaust work done on my car so I called in to schedule a time for an estimate, they told me to bring it in. This is sorta where it all starts to fall apart. I bring it in and end up waiting 2 hours to have them jack my car up. Ok I can see they are busy so I understand. They then quote me 2hrs for the job. 2hrs! (I just need my old muffler cut and a new muffler put on with addition of custom bent pipe and some hangers) Mind you I took it to Monro and they quoted me 1 hr. The owner, Chaz, tells me they will do higher quality work than Monro and really take the time. So we settle on a price of 200 included everything (100/hr labor). He tells me bring it in the next morning, the welder will be there around 830am. Great! I can finally get my muffler put on! I bring it in by 815am. 845am. No welder. 9am. No welder. 915am, I'm told the welder called out. So basically I've wasted an hr of my life there + hour of driving. The owner isn't there yet, so I told them to have him call me and maybe we can work something out. Entire day goes by, no call. Next day, another tech calls me, asking if I want to schedule. I tell him to have the owner give me call. No call. Couple hours later, I call, still only speaking with the tech and tech tells me, the owner is sorry but won't budge on the price and that I can take it to other places but they will just hack it up. Goodbye Moore Automotive for future installs for me and my friends. Owner doesn't care for customer satisfaction. There are plenty of places that do high quality custom exhaust work. I was referred to this shop by my friend. Once I picked up my Evo 9, John was very helpful in doing an examination on the car and informing me what issues needed to be addressed. Aside from oil changes and tire rotations, Moore has completed work ranging from alignments to rebuilding the clutch. Recently, I had them upgrade the cams, injectors, fuel pump and supporting mods for E85. Chris is a great tuner and I am currently running dual map 93 / E85 and happy with the performance of the car. Don't even think about taking your car here! I have a VW Golf and about a year ago took it to them because of a rattling sound, they told me both my mufflers needed to be replaced. They were replaced ($700+) and as soon as i drove off it made a different rattling sound. I brought it back for them to fix it. They said it was repaired and I left for a road trip, it stopped making the sound for about 200 miles. then it started again. By this time I was near chicago and since there wasn't a Monroe near there I took it to a different shop. Turns out they replaced the mufflers but didn't replace the other completely rusted out pipe between the two mufflers. $50 later I had a new pipe. flash forward to today when I brought it in because my muffler, again, was making a sound. I figured it had come loose and wasn't worried. First I want to note I was not in their system, and they had no knowledge of my ordeal before. They said that a pipe had indeed come loose and that they would fix it. When I got the call to tell me it was done they mentioned "by the way, there's a small hole in your muffler, nothing to worry about, but just thought you should know" to which I replied "but you sold me the muffler" Long story short, Instead of an apology I got a "it is what it is" from the front desk and no guarantee of any sort of resolution. I'm completely unhappy with their customer service, their work is sub-par and their corporate customer service telephone line (that I've been disconnected from or on hold with for the entirety of writing this) is anything but helpful. read more

Moore has gone absolutely out of their way to make sure my Evo X is in top notch shape. One out of the many times they have helped me was when my evo blew its turbo feed line and it was a Sunday at 10PM. I immediately messaged Bill on Facebook who instantly replied and told me not to worry and have the car towed to the shop and they will look over it Monday morning. Other shops would most likely make similar promises in order to make me feel better when in reality they would not touch the car for a few days...but not Moore! That Monday morning they looked at my car and told me what was wrong and got the problem fixed. My seat broke in my pickup truck and I took it to Moore Automotive for them to fix it. The guys were pretty arrogant and rude on the phone but I didn't really think anything of it because i thought that was how most mechanics acted. My wife went to pick up my truck for me with a friend when it was done because I was at work. When they brought it to me I immediately noticed a MASSIVE dent in the passenger door. Maybe calling it a dent doesn't even do it justice. It looked as if a car had run into the side of the truck going at least 15 mph. I immediately took the truck back to them and all they would say was "Didn't happen here. Didn't happen here. Didn't happen here." If My seat broke again and they were the only company on earth who could fix it, I would rather take the seat out myself and sit on a bucket. Absolute worst company I have ever dealt with. I had a dyno tune on my car last week and didnt have a ride home so I had to sit there the entire day. The sitting area is relatively small so I got to listen first hand how intelligent these guys are and they REALLY know their stuff. I had an issue with my tune (an honest overlook) a couple days later and took it in this morning and they fixed it in seconds. horrible experience! will never ever go back nor recommend this place! dropped off my car for a built. after 19 months and spending tons of money the car won't start. started diagnosis or should say misdiagnosis and bill started to go up like a rocket. ended up taking the car to a different shop and, of course, paid the other shop for moore's mistakes. they are very expensive and lie that they can do any job. well, after you are in you are in for a big surprise. they get you! One minor example is they made Intercooler piping kit (NO CORE JUST PIPING) for $550 and installation was $660, that's $1,210 just for piping and installation. Ridiculous thing is that they used parts of my original piping kit to made theirs. So in the end I didn't have my original piping kit which I could've sold for easy $400 and $1,210 for theirs. So this piping kit cost me $1,610. SCAM SCAM SCAM! read more

Be very careful in getting a price here. At my usual garage I was quoted over $650 to replace the up-flow oxygen sensor (front one) and then called a Honda Automotive repair shop we had used years ago to get another price. They quoted $240 over the phone. When I brought it in the next morning I asked again what the price was going to be and the service guy called the parts dealer. He quoted the part as being over the original price and we then added in the labor time. It was still just over $300. Okay I said that's fine. He called a few hours later and said they didn't think it was the sensor and the diagnostics were showing a number of other possibilities. I told him that anything that was over $50 they were to call me before they fixed anything. He then asked at the end of that conversation how I knew it was the oxygen sensor and I told them that I had already had diagnostics run at my gas station. (I think my answer is why they backed off later about the other issues by saying that the diagnostics showed it was just the sensor - confusing - it was for me too, but since I already had a report how could the previous garage have been wrong with their report? He couldn't explain the reason there was then something and now nothing. Then he called back a few hours later and said that they couldn't do the job for the last quote but would do it for over $550. No being a total fool I asked how we got to that number since he had told me to my face earlier what the part cost and what the labor charge was. He said I could either get it done for that amount or come pick up the car. I asked again how he came to that number since he had already told me another number in the morning. He then said ..."Do you know how much this will cost you somewhere else?" I asked what that had to do with it. He had the gall to say that he was in fact SAVING me money since he wasn't charging as much as others charge! I pointed out that from my point of view I wasn't saving any money from the mornings quote BUT SPENDING MORE! (Yes, I was raising my voice at that point). Then he said that I should understand what other places were charging for this work. Gosh, I thought it was a based on the cost of the parts and the labor costs. Silly me - it appears to be based on market rates. Now this is a new lesson. Again he said I could come pick up the car if I didn't like the new price. I told him I would do that. Before I hung up I asked how much I was already into him for this deal - how much it was going to cost me - and he said $45. (The Honda dealer had already quoted me $420 to replace the item. So now I was taking it to the dealer). My husband wanted to know why I was being so difficult because years before when we had taken our Honda to this automotive place we had been more than satisfied with their honesty and service. Well there is no more honesty, there is no more service and the previous owner it turns out is LONG gone. I went back to work and read some posts (which I should always do beforehand) and found out that others had exactly the same problem. Here is their gig...leave the car there by being waved in by an obviously reasonable price and then they jack the price up 3 times the original estimate. (For those that care - I wasn't going to be unreasonable - I figured the original guy over the phone misspoke - and I accepted the price adjustment when I brought the car in. But now I wonder when the bait and switch started. Who knew that I would press for the price when I got there face to face .... actually come to think of it I told the guy over the phone that I was just going to drop it off that night and so there wasn't going to be a face to face. I have brought my car to Moore automotive for years but then the original owner John Moore died and a new group bought the business. I had several bad experiences before I found another repair shop. Each time I went they failed to open on time. I would wait outside and they would get to work an hour late. On two occasions they gave me an estimate and then the final bill was higher without explanation. The final time I challenged the bill and the kid behind the counter wouldnt allow me to speak to anyone else. He was ready to fight me. My choice was a physical fight or to call the police. I'm not a spiteful person but a business such as Moore warrants a less than satisfactory review. I feel it is my duty to inform any future customers, and give fair warning so they also don't go through the agony I did. So initially my car was scheduled for an exhaust job. For which I was quoted over the phone about $140 given I was providing all the materials. Which I did. They did a good job with the welds but they couldn't even plug in the wideband sensor. Which I made easy for them by removing all console pieces. So literally just plug it in. We also discussed this during drop off. But ok whatever I'm not nit picky so I let it go. I was charged $260 for the exhaust work. About $120 over quote. I paid my bill and didn't complain. My car also went in for a misfire diagnosis and repair. They preformed multiple tests. A leak down, compression, boost leak, and scoped the cylinders. All checked out fine. They did however find a bad plug, miss routed hose and replaced some clamps. They fixed everything and gave me a clean bill of health. I took the car back upgraded my injectors and BOV. I returned my car a couple hours later for a dyno tune. A week goes by and I receive a phone call. It was Paul. "Hey I just got back to the shop and your motor is blown". I was like "dang that sucks, but stuff happens". Paul told me he did not know any details but he would find out more and get back to me. Next day comes I get the call and they were very vague with details. The story told and how they were acting was super fishy. They claimed the motor blew immediately upon getting on the throttle at 3500k rpm at only 4 to 5 psi during the very first pull. Really??? Possible but let's hear more. They claimed it was a due to a bent rod. Moore told me there were no prior indications before failure. No noises, vibrations, knocks, AFR's were good. I mean really nothing? How would a bent rod NOT present itself at all? For goodness sakes it would never fully hit TDC so things would be off. The motor was purchased by a reputable engine supplier. Who also performed a compression test before purchase. So the motor had a compression test done twice and numerous other test done by Moore but nothing shows up. Righhhht. So either they're incompetent or careless. Despite all this I kept my cool and ran through all the facts. I consulted with numerous friends in the auto industry to gain some outside perspective. Everyone said the same thing.Things don't add up and the story sounds bogus. I tried to work things out with Moore and went in to speak with the owner. I asked if we could talk somewhere privately to which Bill rudely replied "No were good here". I was like "ok"? None the less I attempted to have a civil conversation hoping to achieve some type of solution. Instead I was met with hostility and got attacked by everyone in the shop. At the end Moore refused to come to any compromise. I left feeling taken and disrespected. They charged me for a tune that wasn't even preformed and a clean up fee to add insult to injury. In this case Moore is NOT better! One more thing communication with them is horrendous. I would always have to hunt them down for info or updates. Most of the time you will not know what's going on with your car. Either way the decision is yours, but if you have other options I strongly advise choosing the alternative. read more
