I had new cushions made for a chair. After much discussion the fabric and foam cushioning was decided, the deposit made (extremely pricey $$$$) in January. I finally received word it was ready for pickup nearly 6 months later. I was notified that the door would be locked and to knock. Prior to this customers could just walk in. It was wrapped in plastic and I could not sit in it nor examine it, there was a rush to get me out the door. I paid the $$$$ balance and brought it home, excited to have it done. I sat in it and was immediately disappointed that it was not as we discussed and what was spelled out in detail on my itemized receipt. Appears that the correct foam for the chair back was not ordered. The chair pushes you out because the back is as thick as the seat cushion which is wrong. I did have an immediate conversation with Gina who sounded upset that I was not overjoyed with the result. I asked her when I could bring it back, she said the crew was backed up and had projects they had to get out; that she would be in contact with me. Needless to say it is Aug 31 and I have tried to contact by phone and text many times with no reply. Gina also knew I had an ottoman/footstool I also wanted completed for this chair and I suppose that may never happen. The cushions of the chair, other than the back cushion, are wonderfully constructed with great care and attention to detail. I am very upset and confused as to why I cannot get them to reply to correct this obvious error on the back cushion. I also had made it known that I had other similar chairs I wanted to have restored in the future; what a shame that it has come to this! I am seriously considering back-charging this with my credit card company in hopes to have resolution. read more

I was desperate to find a skilled craftsman to repair a cherished family heirloom that has been in my family for 83 years. The piece is a Jacques Emile Ruhlmann original and continues to be the most comfortable chair that I've ever owned! The batting needed replacing badly and some of the wood trim needed to be "refreshed". I was worried that I would have to travel up to Philly or New York for the custom work, but fortunately, a neighbor had mentioned a business in Marshall, Virginia that she had used and had been far more pleased with the results than she could imagine. I talked to Mr Andes by phone and arranged to have him inspect the piece to determine if he was up for the challenge. While looking over the chair, he noticed that there had been an area of the chair's fabric that had been exposed to sunlight over the years and caused the fabric to wear thin and in the process become less durable. The new batting could subject the fabric to additional stress and cause it to tear. I was impressed with his ability to evaluate the project and even make a recommendation for something that I hadn't even considered! The most amazing aspect of this visit and one that told me that I had found the right guy for the project, was the fact that he had available in his fabric samples a swatch of material that was a perfect match for the chair! Even though I trusted Mr Andes with the work, I was still pretty anxious during the wait, hoping that the beauty and comfort of the piece had not been sacrificed for an expedient trip to Virginia (I reside in Maryland, but it beats driving to Philly or New York). I got the call at work that the chair was ready for pick up and beat rush hour over to Marshall to see what the results were. Seeing the "life" of that chair restored was every bit as fantastic as the day I moved that chair into my home from my grandmother's place in 2002! I've taken other pieces over to Mr Andes since that time, but none carried the same value with me as that first chair I entrusted to him. Again, thank you Craig (and your pop)! read more

Craig Andes of Total Restorations was hired by Mayflower movers when my furniture was damaged in a cross-country move, and I am sure they just picked someone out of a book when they found him, as certainly their selection was not based on quality of work. He said he could fix a broken stool that in my opinion was broken beyond repair. He assured me he could fix it though. He brought it back and I was surprised it was glued back in one piece, and he said for me to sit on it to prove it was indeed fixed. I did try it out, and it seemed fine, at that time. Then I didn't use the bench for a number of months, but when I finally did sit on it again, I heard it snap. The legs broke off exactly where Craig had "repaired" it. I emailed him about it, and he said he guaranteed his work and would fix it. Then he wrote back refusing to repair the bench saying that it was "decorative" -- because I had told him the reason it didn't break sooner was that I had not used it, except for decoration. I sent him a link showing him the bench was absolutely sold as a stool for seating, and even in the post a man asked if it would support his weight for sitting and the answer was, "yes." Craig still insisted it was decorative not functional and he refused to fix it. When I told him I would tell Mayflower he didn't repair it sufficiently, he said "good." So he pocketed the money and did shabby work that he didn't stand behind. Also,he was supposed to fix a scratched desk which he took to his shop for over a month and then brought it back with a completely different look. Before he ruined it, the desk had a beautiful rustic finish, and he put a hard, ugly old-fashioned looking finish on it, and he was very proud of it. He said it was a very fine finish that he usually only uses on pianos. Since there was nothing I could do about it, I accepted it the way he had refinished it, but It destroyed the looks of my desk. Not only that, he took FOREVER to get the repairs done. Bad customer service, poor quality work. Update: I hope people who see Craig's response below indeed follow the link you provided, so everyone can clearly see the Denci repaired was absolutely intended for seating. It says so in the very first sentence. The bench with used in the correct way. The thing that was incorrect was the way he repaired it, or his agreement to repair it at all. read more

Craig and the team showed extraordinary craftsmanship restoring a sofa and chairs that we had brought in to be recovered. They worked closely with us to select the right fabrics and make sure we were all on the same page about the work to be done. We are exceptionally happy with the results; everything is done perfectly and we'll be enjoying these pieces for a long time. Also, Craig and Gina are truly friendly and easy to work with. My girlfriend and I had two CY Mann chairs reupholstered by Total Restorations and were extremely impressed by the quality and turnaround time of their work. The chairs are in a Milo Baughman style and so have a fairly complex design, so we were nervous about how they might turn out. We shouldn't have been worried, as Craig Andes did a fantastic job and the chairs look amazing. Would highly recommend them. read more
