We have been with Ptera for a number of years and have been very satisfied with download speeds and service. I have no clue how it rates to the large cable companies, as I don't have the option to use cable where I live. But...when I hear what most people pay for internet...I am super happy that I have the ability to use Ptera.I can say that compared to the company we used prior, they are heads and tails better in service and connectivity. I have had a few issues, but all were able to be identified while on the phone with a tech, and often times solved. I do have high speed internet at my office, and I can say that the very old laptop I use at home, is only very slightly slower when accessing the internet than the new computer I use in the office. read more

I had Ptera for almost 7 years. during that time, internet has increased from $59 per month to $78 per month. if that wasn't annoying enough, I canceled the service 9/23/26 and it was still active as of 9/30/26. When I reached out again and requested a refund for the week since my cancellation request, I was quoted a bunch of small print and rejected. I strongly recommend looking for other options if you have them. read more

Worst internet connection EVER!. Customer service is non existent. Calls from my family never came through when my mom passed away. It was a complete disaster. They charged me high fees for zero coverage. There's a reason their ratings are so horrible. I'm with Intermax and service is MUCH better. They actually pick up their calls. read more

Absolutely horrible service, horrible customer service, continual outages, they put holes in my roof with their equipment after having an agreement of no nails, screws or anything else that would put holes, had to have a roofer come out to repair after several nasty emails from Adrian calling me names literally tons of emails showing their lack of professionalism. They blame the customer for their non stop errors, there is plenty of HONEST internet providers to use without having to deal with alters. Save yourself the headache of continual outages and rude customer service as you can see others have the same complaints. read more

I had the strangest and most disappointing experience with this company. I purchased a house in a rural area, the previous owner told me they had service with Ptera and claimed that it was excellent. I called their office and spoke with a representative and filled him in on the situation. He stated that a sales person would call me back. The call-back did not happen. The following Monday I called again and spoke with a service technician. He told me to find "the brick". I searched all over and discovered that there was no brick. The technician then stated that some person would call me back. The call-back did not happen. The following morning I contacted Ptera again and asked what I could do to facilitate getting some internet at my house. I went through the whole story again about the previous owners using Ptera and there being no "brick". The fellow on the phone stated that I could pop on over to their office and pick up a brick then take it back and plug it in and call them. I figured ok, I can be the service technician for this company if it speeds along this process. I drove over, got the brick, returned home, plugged it in, made a phone call. The tech took a minute after I reached him, I heard furious key clicking in the background, he then says "The signal is really weak, it would be so low you would not be happy with our service". I asked him if his system told him why the signal is low. He stated " It might be trees, you live in an area with trees." Why yes, yes I do live in an area with trees, it is western Washington after all. I asked if the dish could be misaligned, or the Cat 5 cable damaged, or if I did not connect something correct..... he said no, your radio is old. Ok, what would a new radio run me, he responded with " a lot of trees would need to be cut down". I then asked if he could see my property somehow that he was making this judgement from a basement ( no windows in their office) 14 miles away, don't you send out people to do an actual site survey or do you just pass edicts from a basement bunker? They really don't want to be bothered over at Ptera. I would suggest moving the business to Oklahoma, far fewer trees there. I am amazed when I run into people who argue so much when all you want to do is give them money. read more

We love Ptera. They have friendly and professional customer service 24/7 which we have used. They set us up for fast internet even though we are way out in the country. They went the extra mile to insure we got fast reliable service. We highly recommend them. read more

It pains me to write one star reviews, but that is where Ptera current sits. We have had Ptera for at least 8 years. We pay for business class service since I have had to work from home over the years. Up until a couple of years ago, service was decent, but we never got the full speeds we were paying for. Yes, their service does say speeds up to a certain amount. I am fine with that as long as its usable. It is also wireless, so there are limitations in terms of speeds. Service has gotten consistently worse over the past year or so. They have obviously oversubscribed their service, yet they continue to advertise on the radio. I sure wish they would take care of their current customers first. Support is friendly and they are finally easier to contact, but it doesn't help when nothing gets fixed, or at least not a permanent fix. Service may magically improve after contacting support, but it is only temporary. They also don't seem to understand that business class service may need to be available during business hours. They have recently begun to randomly reboot towers to try and fix issues. Try and work with that happening randomly. We have been very patient, but our patience is wearing thin. We are ready to cut some trees down so we can go with a competitor that can actually offer what they sell. I know many others who are not happy and have switched providers if they have the option. read more

They came out and set up my internet did not set up my printer to the wifi, and refuse to send someone out to set up the answering system. All of the information they tell you is incorrect. So I cannot set up my answering machine. In the meantime I lost 15 calls with is about 1500.00 worth of orders I have to pay my IP guy to send up my printer so I was out 40.00 for that. I have to have this done my Monday. As I am leaving town and do not what to leave my staff with no answering service. this is the poorest customer service I have ever seen almost ready to go back to Century link and at least I had shitty internet but my phone worked. Do not use this company at all WE WILL BE GOING BACK TO CENTURY LINK. A LOCAL BUSINESS read more

This is the worst internet company I have worked with and here's why. At the beginning of our relationship we were told we could get UP TO 25 mbs of speed which I already thought that that was a bad sign but whatever. Then when covid hit they took on more customers than their tower could handle and they crashed. For months we had a max of 7 down and 1 up. Then their tower got fixed and we got 50 down and 23 up which was fantastic and more than enough. Until a windstorm knocked down their tower and they had to rebuild. According to them they realigned our antenna and rebuilt their tower in the same spot but now we are lucky to get 5 down at 3 am. Finally, never try to contact them, at this point I'm sure that their support knows us all by name, and every time its the classic of "I'll pass you up to infrastructure" and we don't hear back for a few weeks and the process starts again. DO NOT GO WITH PTERA read more

After being a customer for several years they discontinued our service without warning. Found out that they dropped us from using their service because of where we live and they don't want to update their hardware to continue providing internet service. No call, no email, no warning and our service was canceled. I'd give them less than 1star if possible. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service and not the bandwidth they charge you for.

Great company, with the best internet service around. Most internet providers yank the price around and are really hard to deal with and get support from, but Ptera is local and super easy to get a hold of, with reasonable prices, and without any fees or taxes, you just pay the quoted price every month. read more

The people are very nice, but fixing problems leaves much to be desire.

Conclusion: I can't recommend strongly enough to not do business with this company! Ptera bought out my previous provider Velocimax who gave great service. Unfortunately I've had the same experience as many other reviewers here and other places online where Ptera repeatedly gives less than honest answers and makes phony excuses why their service is commonly down and when up nearly always gives me download and upload rates approximately 1/3 of what they say my plan should be. Nearly every time I've called I've been routed to their answering service in Cheney. So they are either completely understaffed in Spokane or they have so many people calling in with issues that they can't answer their calls. They give excuses like, "the trees have grown up in front of your dish." When in fact I have no trees in front of my dish because I live up on a hill and can look directly over to the towers on Mica Peak. They came out and replaced components and then within a couple days the service was just as bad as it has been since the end of last summer when the problems started. I spoke at length with the previous owner of Velocimax and it seems that they are most likely having tower frequency issues to save money and won't admit to it and make excuses to keep people hanging on. They have false advertising for the Velocimax customers they bought out since they're charging more than what they advertise for their basic Power plan but refuse to set the speeds higher to match. This is fraud. I have a FCC complaint pending regarding their business practices. If you are having issues too I suggest googling "Ptera lawsuit" and "Ptera complaint" and filing complaints through FCC.gov and also the BBB. North Idaho and Spokane are too nice of areas to allow their kind of business practices and Ptera needs to be held accountable so consumers know what they're dealing with before purchasing expensive hardware and setup fees. read more

[ Review updated Jul 2017 ] How's Petra? It's getting better. Listen, first you have to understand that Over the Air internet will never be fiber or anything close in terms of speeds. That's not Ptera's problem, it's the technology. That said, the fact that you can get internet at all in places like where i live is pretty cool. So, I'm thankful that they have built a business to service rural areas. The speeds are reliable 80% of the time for me. I've been happier since getting an upgraded dish and knocking down a tree that was partially blocking line of sight to the tower. Both of those things really helped with consistency. Ptera's technical support is mediocre. The positive is that they are always friendly. The biggest issue is that when you have a problem, they basically say they'll escalate it and get back to you. Unfortunately, 90% of my experiences have been that they either never get back to you or it's several days later. that's not good. They need to do their analysis and close the loop with customers faster. Over all though, i think these guys are moving in a positive direction. I've been with them for more than a year and things have been gradually improving. read more

Absurd. Due to the fact that there is nothing else remotely available, we are at their mercy. Oh sure, we have a few "good" days here and there, I mean, maybe even a week, where our internet speed hovers around 3 mbps and occasionally spikes to 6 (I know, ridiculous!), but for the most part, every time I do a speed test, we sit around less than 1 mbps. Never mind the fact that we PAY DILIGENTLY FOR 15 mbps SINCE THEY TOLD US THAT BY SO DOING, THE SERVICE WOULD IMPROVE. False. So, they also constantly tell us when I call that they will look into a refund. False. Interestingly, after pretty much every call, our bandwidth magically improves for a few hours or even days to around 3-5 mbps. But then it goes back down to 0.1 or 0.04 again (and yes, I mean 0.04), and I have to wait until I have time again to call and press the issue. As far as customer service, sure, they are always nice on the phone and in person. The problem is that they say, "gee that does sound like a problem, we'll look into it." Then, if we're lucky, they'll admit it is a problem, say that they're doing something about it, get 3-5 mbps for a few weeks, and then? Yup, you guessed it, back to 0.4. The other thing? They'll swear that something or someone is using 6-7 mbps all the time at the house...umm, no. No, and more no. That would be great if we ever got that speed consistently, but even still we simply don't have someone or something using data all the dang time, at least not at that level. Sure, on a good day, or on a bad one when we wait for 10 minutes for a streaming service to buffer before playing something, we use data, but in general it is a trickle service for the most part. One thing is for sure, Ptera clearly doesn't like its customers to work from home where you need to log into a VM. Even if the internet is somehow having a decent day, if I log into my VM for work, I'm almost guaranteed to be able to watch all of the buttons show delayed hover as the mouse catches up to where I actually am trying to click. Same with writing. It's so cool (read not) to type a sentence and then watch it be added to the screen ONE LETTER AT A TIME over the next 30 seconds. And yet, as I stated in the beginning, we really have no other options, so beggars can't be choosers. But for those of you who may have a choice, read the above and then decide if you want to try it. Lastly, for those of you skeptics that say, it can't be that bad for everyone, you're right. It's not. In fact my neighbor used to have problems, and now he gets around 8+ mbps avg at least, with minimal interruption. I, however, at the same time will get 0.1 mbps. And YES, I have tried different routers, placement, etc. Ptera says they want to figure it out, they just don't mean it. read more

You can never get anyone on phone even during business hours. They never call you back and if you cancel even one day into service they expect you to pay for the whole month. I don't know anyone that can't have service turned off and only be charged for what they used. I do not recommend this company for anything read more

Their internet speeds aren't the fastest (10-25mpbs), but the ping is AMAZING (around 10ms). I came from Intermax which had terrible speeds (3mbps on a good day) and mediocre ping (around 100ms) so I'm really happy with Ptera. read more

They are a great internet provider. Good customer service. Had one glitch but they were able to come out and fix it.

So I have had ptera for several years. Do not have much of a choice out where I am . They continually have slow internet problems. Not what I pay for. And they always come up with excuses. I work in it for multicare. Currently internet is down and you cannot get through on the phone lines. You think they would put up a recording of an Network issue. When you do get through it is a 15 minute wait or longer. They never seem to want to resolve an issue no matter how much data you give them. read more

Less than 1 mb dowload, paying for 15. Every evening. Unresponsive customer service. Don't waste your money...

I've been on Ptera for a little over a month. I get the speeds they advertise and haven't had one problem with service in the time I have been on it. We can run HD Netflix on the TV while others are surfing the internet. Very happy. read more

If I could give zero stars I would.. Stay away.. Worst Internet company ever.. No customer service.. It never works the majority of the time... And all you get when you call is an after hours answering service during the week and during working hours!! A rip off. read more

Very unreliable, I realize it's not a direct cable, but if you can get wired service, GET A WIRED SERVICE, I wish I could.

Good customer service but the price $55/month seems high for download of 4.5 and upload of 1 mbs. I'm not even sure we are getting that but internet test speed shows this speed. There are times in the evening when service is very slow and intermittent That may be due to bandwidth issues in our house with multiple users. On the positive side, unlike reviews of other providers I have read on this site, Ptera's customer service is very good. Phone wait time is nonexistent and you will always get a real person. Like everything but the price and the randomly slow speed. For $55/month it seems we should be getting at least double the speed. read more

We never even got a chance to have their service, but I really feel that everything leading up to that was deserving of one star. The tenants that were renting our house used Ptera and recommended them to us as well, since their towers were on the hills behind our house. A month and a half later we have our house surveyed and they tell us that we are unable to have service there because we have trees in the way. I guess our trees grew extremely fast in Dec and January because there was just service to our house not more than two months ago. They then said, in a message, that though the house did have service it was an older system that can no longer be supported...really?! Hmm, isn't that interesting. Every time I called to talk to someone I was sent to the "overflow" receptionist who could answer any of my questions. They only told me what I already knew. I specially asked to have someone leave me a direct number to have questions answers and I was told I would be contacted. The people would call and tell me the exact same thing in a message to which I would call back and do the same process yet again. The customer service is very poor, friendly but very very poor. I wish I could tell you about service, but I have nothing for you. read more

I am paying for 15Mbs currently my actual speed is 2.68Mbs. I have contacted customer support and was told "The problem is your entry level router." Four routers later they claim " there is a problem with your wires. We will have to charge you $125 to repair the problem." I have been with this company several years. Some years were great some were TERRIBLE. I am very disgusted at the fact they want me to pay them additional money to repair equipment owned by them to provide a service that I'm already paying for. I have been paying for this service and these claimed speeds now and not receiving them since August 2016 it is now February 2017. It's funny to look at the customer reviews posted on Ptera's website vs ACTUAL customer reviews posted on Yelp and other places on the web.Ptera you disgust me and probably will disgust Consumer Protection...We will see read more
