Terrible service. Speeds are subpar, at best. Yoh barely get 50% of what you pay for. The customer service is completely unprofessional. Will blame you for any problem and will do almost no troubleshooting when issues happen. Every single customer service agent ive spoke to has been rude and insulting. Im absolutely ashamed that I gave them money for over a year. Worst service I have ever experienced in every regard of the service I've had. You cannot even cancel when you want. Constant problems. This company has no chance at surviving. The coverage and speed is comparable to the old dial up systems and that is if it is even working at all. Then when you try and call to get help they have the worst costumer service I have ever experienced. If the service was only operational for half the month.... can I pay only half the bill? Haha haha.... they want to try and charge you more or they basically tell you to go away.... Don't bother wasting your time contacting these unbelievably ridiculous people. Janet is just rude and nasty. If you could post a zero star review that is what this would be... STAY AWAY ROM COUGAR WIRELESS!!!! The service is terrible and the staff blows smoke up your a** every chance they get. They advertise it as one number, and you get something that's probably 1/80th of the speed. They'll tell you they need to send a technician out to fix your equipment, just for him to come look at it, tell you it's definitely a satellite, then leaves. Oops now you've just given them more money, and gotten nothing done. They'll completely shut off your service all the time with zero warning, then when you call they tell you they received a false flag for "port scanning" or "hacking" and then tell you "our mistake, let's get that turned back on after our lunch break, and maybe a nap!" AND THAT'S ONLY IF THEY ANSWER THE D*** PHONE! Cougar Wireless is one of THE WORST internet companies you could ever give money away to in return for absolute zero. read more

My previous review was removed because "we found that it fell outside our Content Guidelines because it appeared to be primarily based on someone else's customer experience", so let me make this explicit up front: This is *MY* direct experience of using a service that *I* paid out of my own pocket for, including conversations between *ME* and Cougar Wireless support staff. If that still doesn't meet the guidelines then I don't know what does. The service is terrible, and I never get the speeds I pay for. There are frequent outages, and the last time I called to diagnose some speed issues the techs were very condescending (saying things like "I'm sorry, I didn't know YOU were a wireless engineer") and unhelpful (service still sucks). Cougar did the installation of hardware as well, and I've had to replace several cables because they weren't even shielded properly and fit loose/poorly. I've never once seen the speeds close to what they're advertised as, and when they say "speeds UP TO X" they're make liberal use of the weasel words. If you pay for X Mbps, expect to get 1/10th of that consistently. If there were any other options for internet I'd be gone in a second, but living in the country you have to take what you can get, even if you don't get what you pay for. Edit: After some back and forth with the owner via Yelp messaging, it only reinforces my opinion of the business. He seems to see Yelp as a platform to fix my technical issues, when in fact my only goal here is to share my experience with their product and support. And make no mistake, that experience leaves a lot to be desired. Instead of addressing my issues with their customer service he insisted on accusing me of not being a real customer and repeatedly shifting blame back on me (which isn't unique to my review, more examples can be found with very little effort). I used this service and when I have called in the past I was assisted by Janet, she is very rude and gets very hostile when you ask questions she does not like and this is terrible customer service. I think she needs anger management because her blood pressure must be elevated. She just needs to be more understanding because I will change to a different service provider because I wont subject myself to listen to hear nagging voice ever again. The phone support lady, Janet--who claims to be the owner of the company as well--just yelled at me then hung up on me after I inquired about a internet outage. I seriously felt like I was being bullied! I was just asking for some general information on the services their company provides, and she got pissed off at me because The account wasn't under my name! What kind of business owner treats people like that? On top of the atrocious customer service and support, Cougar Wireless has some of the slowest speeds around! They are also always having outages and the internet speeds are inconsistent at best. My family pays for 4.5Mbps, and we typically only get around 2.5Mbps. And that's just when it's not cutting out every 20 seconds! Simply disgraceful! I'm also quite concerned that they are tracking their customer's internet usage, if they know about our bandwidth, who knows what else they could be monitoring! Scary! Their website is also extremely outdated and misleading. It looks like it was designed 10 years ago and never updated. This makes it extremely difficult to get useful information on the services the company provides. Let's just say there's a reason cougar wireless has horrible reviews everywhere online. Also, what kind of company plays Christian music for their hold music? What a great way to lose customers. Normally I'd be fine with a company having Christian values, but when a business owner claiming to be Christian conducts themselves in such a manner as Janet has, it's just a disgrace to the religion. read more

I called Cougar Wireless to install my new Internet service. They were eager and willing until it was determined they had to do some work, then all ambition ran out. I was told if I wanted service I would have to dig the hole myself to mount the dish. They wouldn't mount it to the house, nor would they dig the hole. So it's a company that is not even willing to get the service started if any effort has to be done. It seemed to me that they were incapable or unwilling to do any manual labor. I posted a review 2 months ago. The company's reply was the their equipment was knocked out due to a storm. This is a complete line of crap from the company I canceled my service way before the storm that they're discussing. So I guess you can add liar to their list of reasons not to do business with this company. What other service do you pay for where the company provides you with equipment or an installation package that only lasts a couple months before it needs to be replaced at a price that's higher then what the original installation was. read more

I don't know why this company has bad reviews. We have been on Cougar Wireless for 8 months now and NEVER a problem. I work from home and log into a work server; I have no problem with my speeds. Stream in Netflix, no problem! The installers were Veterans and very friendly and left no mess. Janet has always been courteous when I phoned in. They email us if they will be working in the area and let us know if there may be "down time", and that has only been once and didn't last long. read more

I have been a Cougar Wireless customer for 4 years, and I've finally had it with slow internet, poor service, and Janet's rudeness. I have terminated my contract, although they insist on charging me for an additional week until they can find the time to stop by and pick up their equipment. For $100/month I can download files - if they are small. I can watch Netflix - if I don't mind buffering. If it's Sunday, it's much worse. When I call because it's excessively slow, or not working at all, I get to talk to Janet, who's personality seems more suited to prison warden than customer technical support and President of Cougar Wireless. When they had a problem a month or so ago and I had no internet for more than 24 hours, did I receive a pro-rated credit, or any kind of compensation? NO. Ten days ago my service was out again. When they sent tech support to my house the next afternoon ($75, whether it's their fault or not) the technician told my wife that their radio receiver on the outside of my house had fried and that it was the fault of the wiring running from it to their box on the inside of my house. I was unavailable and not in cell service, so my wife talked to Janet and told her that she was unwilling to pay $250 to replace their radio. Janet told her that "you're going to have to pay for it whether we fix it now or not, because your husband insisted on using the existing wiring when we installed it, which we didn't want to do, and he signed a waiver in the contract saying that Cougar Wireless wouldn't be responsible for any failures because of that." That was a lie. I initialed a sentence that stated that I requested the installer to use existing wiring, but it said nothing else. If the equipment that is required for a company to provide the service I am paying for fails, they can fix it or else cancel the service. I called Janet the next morning and explained to her that I'm not in the business of warranting their electrical equipment and she insisted that I was responsible for their equipment regardless of how it failed. She was very combative and seemed to rather enjoy arguing with me, to the point of challenging me to cancel their pathetic service, which I have done. Apparently their business plan is to get the customers to pay for their equipment when it fails. I have had two other wireless technicians out here since then, and they have both told me that blaming the radio failure on the cat 5 wiring is absurd. I guess I'm lucky that Janet didn't try to get me to pay for their equipment failures a month ago when they had problems on their tower. We have been with Cougar for about 4 years and have been experiencing slow and reduced speeds in the past 6 months, especially at night. We don't even stream anything. I have been patient but finally called and were given a litany of excuses why it was MY fault but here are the best two. 1) number of devices connected (he proceeded to give me a list). My response: haven't added a darn thing. 2) the trees were in the way but could have a tech guy come look for $75. My response: COMPLETELY UNTRUE - in fact we have been doing major clearing of branches and it is even better on that side of the house than when they first installed the equipment. The customer service is a disaster and they are over the top expensive - for slow speeds! And we were accidentally late one time in 4 years because I didn't get the bill via email (again, my fault as Janet pointed out) and they threatened to turn off service. read more
