I approached Rainmaker at the recommendation of a good friend. After I reviewed their contract, I…read morewas excited and couldn't wait to get started. I signed it, not realizing that the payment structure was not tied to deliverables. I realized this months later. At the outset, it seemed a worthwhile investment: $28,000 for a name, logo, brand, brand elements, brand book, web site, the works. I received a name and a logo. Although I signed and paid for other elements and deliverables, they did not provide these. Billie was very passionate and involved with my project until her husband started to handle the 3 promised payments. When he did, he did not address prior agreements for payment, instead demanding money while deliverables went unnoticed and un- acknowleged. I have copies of the texts and emails, which, when, coaches, colleagues, my marketing team and other branders read them, were appalled, and in disbelief at the aggressive, unfriendly, unkind and unprofessional content of the notes. Taking a step backward to explain some of my disappointment, I was hooked when Billie, the wife of the husband and wife owner team, said they would do thorough market research. They did not do any such research, or any research that remotely resembled what they promised they would do. Their research consisted of a generic and superficial review of 2 competitors in a flooded market. For $28,000, I expected much much more, i.e. a brand that was developed and grounded in product/market fit. There was no research of the market itself. It was appalling. The research they did I could have done on my own laptop. The only part of this agreement that worked was my logo and name brand. They are beautiful, the designer who created them is a stellar part--, and the only part of their team that is worth the exorbitant and overinflated price tag. After I paid the first $18,000, (and still have not received a style guide, web page, and other promised items, guidance on how to convert the logo into usable collateral, or how to even place a signature with it on my email), the finance person set aside working on my project. Beyond this, he also called me 'stupid' and told me that I did not have any understanding of their billing. Finally, the billing issues that were unclear were not written into their initial contract and were not explained by his wife, who brought me in as a client. I only later, got an explanation of how he wanted to be paid that had nothing to do with the work that was promised, after 3-4 months of working with them, and $18,000 later. When he did explain some of their eccentric and very uncommon billing practices, they had nothing in common with what I signed in their contract. He also said my payment was late, so late, that he would add a few hundred dollars in late fees. And also, I received no invoice for the payment, or a due date. When I did not make the final payment, and asked for the items I paid for, after not having received the items that I had already paid for, he sent a demand letter for this final amount. Do not do business with Rainmaker. Ever. The review speaks for itself. There are branding and marketing firms that will attend to the particulars of each phase, that will have your back, that will be delighted to do brilliant work, and do so with an attentive, considerate approach to your brand.
