This time I contacted them before Christmas and they were busy but they added me to the queue. Followed up the next week and they were still busy. I took my MacBook Pro here after I had spilled a little water on it (the computer shut down). I had made an appointment with the Apple Store but online the estimated amount it would take to repair my laptop would've been around $600-$700. I decided to take it here first and I'm so glad I did. Joey allowed my laptop battery to dry and after a week my laptop turned on. He only charged me the minimum $30 for running diagnostics. Definitely take your computer here! I have a 5 yr old HP laptop that was having problems. The screen was flickering. I brought it in on a Tuesday evening. The gentleman(so sorry I didn't ask for his name) told me it was going to be a cable problem or a screen problem and gave me estimated costs for both. Wednesday he called me and told me that, unfortunately, it was the more expensive repair, the screen. Still, much less expensive than a new laptop. I walked in on a Saturday with my wife's laptop hard drive. I had pulled it out and already replaced it with a new one because the drive was going bad. At no charge, Joey Wu checked to see if data could be recovered (just to check). That sold me on his services right there. I opted for the data recovery service $90 for the first 10GB and $25/10GB thereafter. He doesn't count the unnecessary files like the files it takes to run the operating system (another plus in my book). It ended up being 100GB!!! That was okay because he made me a deal and we squared up for what it would have cost for an extra 10GB plus a little more. My Dell laptop was having video problems. I had a previous diagnosis from a computer repair business in Rancho Bernando that I had been using for years. They indicated that the motherboard video circuits had failed and that the motherboard would have to be replaced. They then indicated that I could pay $300 plus to have the motherboard replaced or that they could sell me a new laptop. I wanted a second opinion so I took it to ProTect and Joey Wu. Without telling Joey that I had a previous diagnosis, Joey came to the same conclusion. But the difference was that Joey offered several different options beyond those suggested by the first computer repair business. The option I selected was to have Joey configure the video driver so as to reduce the monitor resolution and make the monitor video and the laptop much more usable. He did this all for $29. I was impressed with Joey's knowledge of computer hardware and software. In a previous life he was a programmer. It a previous life myself I was an engineer that worked with many hardware and software design engineers. Joey strikes me as a very capable, competent engineer, knowledgeable about what makes computers tick and how to fix them be it either hardware or software. I had a old Apple Computer that was an antique and needed Joey to transfer everything to new Apple computer. Seriously though the reviews were too good to be true. Brought in a Toshiba laptop that was splashed with coffee . The guy checked it out and with the exception of the CMOS backup battery everything worked. Some keys were a little sticky but getting to the keyboard on a Toshiba is a total bitch. Joey is the owner and one heck of smart and nice guy. I went in with my Dell Lap top that suddenly went on "Fritz" at the power plug in. He He stopped what we was doing and had it apart in minute. He had to use "Guitar pics" because apparently it had gotten som sticky spillage on the under carriage. Genius- guitar pics? He took the plu out tested and reassembled in 20 minutes and charged me $30.00 and I was in operations again. I asked him was it worth while to put a faster hard drive in it. He looked up on his computer and and priced one out for me to pick up. I got one at Fry's. He said take it back it was not a True Solid State. They were flaking me - twits. So I did and got a true one at Circuit City for like $140.00. I left the laptop with him with the Hard Drive. I picked up the next day. He had transferred all my software programs and all my doc's etc. Fired it up and bada bing it was oepn and loaded in a micro second. Made me spin it was to fast!!! Joey is as honest as the day is long and knows it all and does not "Tell you how the watch was built" when you ask him a questions. He just fixes the issue. I sent him to our office in the industrial park to review three of computers we were having issues. Being bumped off and some slowness. I said should we swap out hard drives etc etc. He cleaned one and said it was not worth the effor on the other one, but better to buy a new computer. Honest and straight forward. I was surprised to hear back in two days that it was a faulty accelerator card and would work without it but slowly. He could order a new one and make it work well and he did just that in one week! Based on the great reviews here on Yelp, I called Protech to see if they could fix my old iMac. My hard drive was dying and needed it to be replaced. Joey, the owner, immediately knew what was wrong and provided me with the best option for me based on how the computer was used. I thought about swapping the standard hd for a speedier ssd drive, but Joey advised that based on my usage, the standard hd would be the best and most cost effective means of storage. We hit a snag along the way when my internal camera didn't work after the hd swap, but it was not his fault, it was Apple's stupid wiring. He was very patient and persistent in solving the problem. Long story short: my iMac is like new again, everything works as it should, and now I know a great person to go to if I have any future computer problems. Joey is professional, very knowledgeable, courteous, and works very quickly. Just like finding a good, honest mechanic, finding a good, honest computer repair guy is like gold.
