I found John on line looking for somebody local with good YELP reviews. He qualified on both counts. Though it was the beginning of the holiday season, he said he could fix my crashed computer right away if I could bring it to his home office. Since he was so close to Rancho Santa Fe, it was no problem. Not only did he fix the major software program, he updated it to the latest version. It took him less than two hours. I never asked him for his price until he offered it when he called to discuss options for adding RAM. He was very reasonable in his offer compared to the operations working out of a central line where the receptionist takes your request and reads a set fee or hourly rate. One even had no guarantee of no fix-no pay. When I described how my crash occurred, John was totally and rightfully confident he could fix it. After a number of hit and misses over the years with local "experts" I finally found one that deserves all of the great YELP ratings shown on his site. John was prompt and his charges were reasonable. However, his skills are limited and he should not be used for business computer situations. My need was for a small business network of computers. In late January / early February 2016, he did the upgrade to Windows 10 on 3 computers, but there was a problem that required a complete re-installation of the operating system and all software because he forgot to turn off the anti-virus before doing one installation. In April 2016, one computer had a problem and needed to be fixed and the operating system reinstalled (not his fault). However, he did not properly set up the shared logical drive properly - either on the original Win10 installation or when he fixed the broken computer. The other 2 computers could access private data on the 3rd computer (which was not the result that we discussed before he did it), and the 3rd computer could not access shared data on the other 2. I ended up paying someone else to fix his mistakes and to get my network working the way that I needed it. He also did not take the time to understand the documentation that I provided for my system, and he did not document what he had done despite the fact that I told him that I needed written documentation for my business network. If you are an individual user without network issues, documentation needs, or business privacy concerns, then he may possibly be a good resource for you. However, if you have a business network then you should not use John. read more

After having my first computer repair done by John, I think I have found both. He listens to what is said and gives suggestions as well as an estimate before doing the repair. I would not recommend taking your laptop to this individual. I took my laptop with a cracked screen and a newly purchased screen to this shop in Solana Beach and in the process of installing my new screen he cracked it. He claimed that he then purchased a second new screen and subsequently cracked that one as well. He then claimed that to the extent I was out $160 for the screen I bought and he was out $160 for the screen he bought, we were even and he then handed me back my computer and my cracked screen. I have no idea if he actually purchased a second screen but in his mind we were even and he offered no compensation. Loser. read more
