We decided to swing by this place for an early dinner after a day at Smithsonian and left disappointed. The place had a good beer garden vibe with indoor and outdoor seating, a decent selection of German drafts, and very friendly and accommodating staff. The food was not a good representation of German cuisine. The self proclaimed dish of Germany being named as Sauerbraten tasted like beef broth from a can and everything was extremely salty. The wurst was delicious but I found the bun to be quite dry. The salad was fairly small, and one of the few veggie options. Such a hidden gem! I had the 3 pork and veal slides (Leberkäse Sliders!), which were tender and full of flavor. The buns were delicious with a little bit of German mustard, which was not too much. Came in with a fairly large group for brunch. Called ahead for a reservation, but on this day it wasn't totally necessary to have a resi. Our group ordered a lot of different items on the menu: warm pretzel, Prost Benedict, the deutsch baby (both sweet and savory), the brunch burger, and the hash. The deutsch baby is not what you would think of a pancake - it reminded me of an egg soufflé almost. It wasn't my vibe but the group enjoyed it. I got the Benedict and it was good but a little cold since I think they waited until the babys were done and so it was just a little mistimed. Otherwise tasty. My husband LOVED his brunch burger. He wouldn't STFU about how awesome it was lol. The fries were very tasty. The hash was super yummy. The warm pretzel was amazing. I would have ordered that if I had known how good it was. This place has tons of outdoor seating and the weather was perfect the night we visited. Our server was warm, knowledgeable, and attentive without being annoying. Our food and beer were fantastic! We ordered the 10 beer flight thinking we'd receive tiny samples of each, but the 10 beer flight is 2 liters of beer (total volume)!!! We ordered the short rib spaetzle and it was to die for! I ordered the Prost Benedict, and it was very filling but was a bit tasteless. (Note: Other dishes seem heavier, so be prepared to bring home leftovers!) It could use a mustard-based dressing for the pulled pork or more flavorful hollandaise sauce, IMO. The salad side had a rather too tasteless dressing too. Four stars is a little generous but I want to love Prost. I'm a big fan of German food and beer; however, the service here was a little bit less than stellar. It was pretty clear that our server half-listening since all the orders were slightly off. When I arrived before my friend and ordered a beer, she brought me two. We both ordered the schnitzel, she brought us the schnitzel sandwich. We didn't complain as we drank the beer and ate the schnitzel sandwich -- which was pretty solid. It is just what the Mount Vernon triangle neighborhood needed in COVID times: plenty of outdoor seating and lots of delicious German beer! They have heaters (which will be more important as WINTER is coming...) and yummy waist-ban-stretching treats, like pretzels with creamy beer cheese and hand cut French fries.
